    I remember hearing this amazing song for the first time as a 17 year old. Every Sunday I would listen to Kasey Casum countdown on the radio. And I couldn't wait for this masterpiece to reach #1 and it definitely did. I also remember how short the song was. And I wanted the second part of the song to go on forever because the music is simply awesome. Well I finally got my wish at the age of 62! Thank you! I love this remix!

    Love Hangover" was the fourth number one single for Motown singer Diana Ross. Ross recorded "Love Hangover" in 1975. It was released in March 1976, and rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Soul Singles and Hot Dance Club Play charts simultaneously.
    The song was written by Pamela Sawyer and Marilyn McLeod as a disco number. Producer Hal Davis recorded the instrumental track in 1975 thinking it ideal for Marvin Gaye or Diana Ross, who were his two favorite vocalists to work with. He thought Diana would be sexier on it, so he recorded the song with her. The Motown staff believed that it would be perfect for Ross to record, too. Ross, like her soul contemporaries Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye, initially resented the new musical movement but eventually agreed to record the song
    Hal Davis instructed the song's engineer Russ Terrana to install a strobe light so that Ross could be in the "disco" mindset.[1] As the song changed from ballad to uptempo, Ross became more comfortable with the material; she hummed, sang bit parts, laughed, danced around and even imitated Billie Holiday.[2] The carefree and sensual nature of Ross' vocals and the music's direction helped to sell the song.
    The song was released on the Diana Ross LP in February, 1976. The lead single from the album was "I Thought It Took A Little Time." Singing group The 5th Dimension also released "Love Hangover" as a single. Motown then issued Ross' version on 45. Both versions entered the chart the same day. By the time Ross' version of "Love Hangover" went to number one, Ross had reinvented herself as a disco diva and The 5th Dimension's version had peaked at number 80. It won Ross a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance.
    Motown released versions of Ross's version in 1988 (remixed by the British team PWL) and 1993 (remixed by Frankie Knuckles for the album Diana Extended: The Remixes and by Joey Negro for a single).

      @@JimmieJamOfTheDay Quite frankly, who cares about the Billboard Charts anymore. It's political and tainted like the Oscar's. The Music Industry has been so fickle since the early 90's. She has always put out great music even if didn't do well commercially. She's 76 now. The way music works today, you are fortunate to be over the age of 30 and have a #1 hit on Billboard. Billboard is yesterday. ROSS has had so many cuts that should have cracked top ten as well as #1, in her lifetime, but we know how that works. I think people should be the judge and not the bias chiefs in the establishment that determine what would get airplay and stay in rotation until it taints your mind and have you thinking a song is a jam, when it really isn't. Ross music though lives on and its alway been quality. She's #1 in my book.

      William Fleming it's fast but you gotta remember it's not necessarily for us as it is for the new generation that maybe never heard the original so they may have or may not have any history with this song ,thus having no comparison to go by and it's apparently good to them because it's at number #1 again after all these years what fourty four yrs. We have to relax and let the remixer create sort of new sound out of the old song , and do not compare the original with it we're not supposed to do that plus the original can not be beat itis the template the blue print. So stop take a breath and say ok, good he mixed it good enough for it to rise to number #1 for Diana Ross and that in itself is a good thing. One more point remember remix in and of itself means to not so much copy- cat but more reflavor asong not meant to compare .

    This is tragic. The beats are good, but the pace kills the sexiness of the original and distorts her voice way too much. I’ll be happy if it scores another #1, but this is more the remixer’s song than the singer’s.

    • @NYCMark6275
      @NYCMark6275 Před 4 lety

      Damo Trent I would suspect neither is true for me. I can appreciate both a classic and a reinterpretation of it. I wasn’t aware of the original Love Hangover until years after it was released, and when I first heard it I wasn’t blown away. Later, I discovered a remix of it that I liked a lot, and it improved my appreciation of the original. I do believe it’s a great song, but it’s not a personal favorite of mine. So, in this particular case, I’m in no way tied to the classic version. I do appreciate the looseness and ease of her vocal, which is why I’m not so fond of the Kupper mix. Rather than a slow build, it’s more like a jackhammer from the start. That doesn’t mean I don’t think the production sounds good, I just don’t like what it does to the vocal. As far as Diana aggressively pursuing a place in today’s modern musical landscape, I’d disagree that she’s done that for the last two decades. The remix of Not Over You Yet was her last true aggressive attempt. All of these remixes of decades-old songs may land at #1 and make her some small part of today’s young musical landscape, but if she were truly aggressive in her pursuit, she’d record something new for the clubs, a la Chaka. Diana’s last new recording, the I Love You album, was the antithesis if aggressively pursuing modernity. And her recording with Rod Stewart before that was again a look back rather than something fresh. As an artist, Diana stopped being adventurous in her mid-50s. These new remixes have nothing to do with her creating art now, it’s the remixers doing that for her. Even her live shows are firmly planted in the past. Her performances are still magical, and I love the way her deeper voice helps give old hits a new feel, but there’s nothing modern about her approach. Even her fashion choices onstage are firmly rooted in her past. She was for a long time adventurous, but it’s been a long time since that’s been the case. No criticism here though. As a fan, I would’ve loved to have heard new work from her in the latter stages of her life, but she had other priorities for, and she seems a lot happier now, so it’s all as it should be. It’s her life, after all. I’m just grateful she’s still performing.

      Damo Trent I’m comfortable with my opinion and can’t control how it is perceived. It’s important for everyone to have a voice, and there’s always going to be someone who tries to dampen your voice when they don’t like what you express. That’s just life, nothing to lose sleep over.

    This is garbage. If you weren't around in 1976 when this song was popular and Diana Ross was young and vibrant, then you just missed out. To keep regurgitating these old dusty oldies and speeding them up is ridiculous. You've had the original, which was the best and an update to this old recording every 10 years since. Give it rest. Diane is almost 80 and Disco is dead!

      @Manuel Esparza Too bad you're living more than 40 years ago in the past getting off on out of style music.

      @@DetroitLives313 Good music is timeless. And this is a fresh take on a classic and it's fantastic. If this came on in a club I'd head straight for the dancefloor and burn it up.

      Anybody else her age can have a number but Don,t let Diana Ross have one, even though her spirit is like that of a 30 something year old. Why are people so jealous of her all of the time. I think that's why she's still selling out shows and all of her remixes keep going to number one

      I was 5 in 1976 and loved this back then not to mention how I LOVED the original version of this song before she sang it. The version by The 5th Dimension. I remember my mother taking me to the record store and buying the both versions for me on 45 rpm's.

    This is just redundant nonsense, write your own song next time, if you have the talent
