Marcus, nice job! Youthful thinking and circumstances evolves our pen pal girl into a long-game mental trap from a demonic stalker. The plot situation advances slowly and painfully (for the protaginist) and is well-presented. The end of "Standard Deviations" was very original and unnerving, blindsided me, man!
Love this stories!! You always should take care with who you associate with. You never know who might be dangerous. And these standardized tests! Urrggghh! They turn a student's brain to mush just to monitor a teacher's skill to teach. Which I think is stupid.
I hated those tests. In the middle of it I just started coloring in circles with the #2 pencil that was required. Failed miserably and wouldn't be forced to do it again! This was high school. 😅
Both these stories had me on edge. For different reasons. Mercy's mom should have been more honest with her daughter. It's a shame that a little communication between parents and children would help them grow up more in touch with the world. But by not saying anything it created a perfect opportunity for a predator to find a prey. In the second story, I was reminded that children aren't all created for academics. Some will grow to be artists, ship builders, welders, mechanics all the things that academics don't teach but are extremely important to our society. SAT's don't do that either. We need to change our perspectives on how we train up our children. Anyway, our NEW author is great, can't wait to hear more from him, he's got a way with words that pack a punch in the end. Thank you for the very fine stories and Mr. Mc Sorley for the delivery. God bless you all.
