The UN at present is not independent. There were reports by the UN in 2016 regarding atrocities in Ukraine by SBU against the Ukraine people of abductions, torture , rape and murder by the SBU , these were ignored. OCSE produced reports on the same matter, also ignored.

I went to Israel for 10 months back in the 1990’s. I can report the terrorism and attacks they faced were frightening. Buses being targeted by suicide bombers in Jerusalem regularly. Also rockets being fired over the border from Syria. I left a Kibbutz in the North as it was terrifying having rockets being fired constantly. It was like living in a war zone. Imagine living for years and years under this circumstance and then Hamas slaughter young innocent lives, and you are told you are committing war crimes by attempting to destroy that terrorist group. The UN gave the Jews a state of their own in 1948. They are legitimate citizens. They were Israelites back in 1020BCE. It is genuinely their homeland.

I dislike that Melanie Phillips sees everything through the prism of Jewishness and that all NGOs have antisemitism at their core. Whilst some of this is the case, the obsession with Israel distracts from her argument. Her argument against international Marxism is sound and globalism is evil but this putting Israel at the core is obsessive.

I know someone who worked for a food program for the UN in Israel. They said when it came to caring about the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, Israel and Hamas were equally indifferent.
