      Yes, I totally agree. As the piece played, I began humming, and then singing, a melody line above it.

    I love this! What exactly happened at 3:53 to fill out that melody? You increased the release knob on LPG1 but I'm not clear how that brought a new melody out from beneath the rest.

    • @AlbertBarean
      @AlbertBarean  Před 4 lety +6

      Thanks for listening, Mike. In this case, the release knob controls the gate (it´s set with 'fourth' - once every four gate -> "Sequences"), the more you open the gate, the more notes come in.

    I wonder why it has no MIDI in port ??? I'd love to be able to control one from my DAW...

    • @AlbertBarean
      @AlbertBarean  Před 3 lety

      You can use the 'CV in' entry

    • @HPPalmtopTube
      @HPPalmtopTube Před 3 lety +2

      @@AlbertBarean Sure, CV/gate for keyboard notes, but I'd want the synth to be fully controllable, eg full automation from my sequencer of all the parameter control knobs etc...
      I wonder why they did'nt add a MIDI in port for full MIDI automation, just like on all the other VOLCA synths..

    • @AlbertBarean
      @AlbertBarean  Před 3 lety +1

      @@HPPalmtopTube I understand you, maybe it's thought of as an independent portable initiation tool to the modular world, especially for completely analogue use. Who wants a Pc if you can touch buttons? ;)

    • @HPPalmtopTube
      @HPPalmtopTube Před 3 lety

      @@AlbertBarean True, it's fun to play with, sculpt new sounds etc... But my workflow is fully MIDI based, I don't record my synth tracks into audio parts as i'm adding parts/channels to my song, I like to have everything (notes, knob/controller automation changes) in MIDI and just push play on my MIDI sequencer software and all the synths start to do their thing, they all play the whole song, and mix all the synth's audio outputs together on a mixer panel...
      I'm not into doing everything "live" or with audio, eg adjust the knobs in real-time while recording that part into audio pieces in my DAW... (in fact, I use a MIDI sequencer only, not a DAW (eg it does'nt do audio)). I use Cakewalk Pro for MS-DOS on a 30 year old HP 200LX palmtop PC with a 80186 CPU @ 16MHz, using an vintage MIDIMAN parallel port MIDI interface, it's somewhat comparable to using Cubase 1.0 on an Atari ST with MIDI only and a bunch of synths and samplers connected to it, all via MIDI. I guess I'm a MIDI purist LOL ;)
      I know it might sound limiting, but it's ultra-portable, unique, and if you know Cakewalk inside-out, you can control it at high speed via lots of keyboard shortcuts, mainly, playing and recording MIDI, and quantizing where necessary...
      I also use a microkorg as my MIDI controller connected to Cakewalk to play the synths and record my MIDI notes of the song, and I have a little 4x4 knob MIDI controller to record knob/controller changes of the synths in Cakewalk...
      Again, all the other volcas have a DIN-type MIDI in connection, and their documentation comes with a MIDI implementation chart, giving you all the controller numbers to automate all the controllable knobs/values etc...
      Maybe if they ever release a mk 2 version of the volca modular, they will add a MIDI in connector just like all the others... I understand you can't control the patching via MIDI, as it involves pluging in a little cable between 2 sockets on the synth itself, but there are still plenty of knobs to tweak that could have had a MIDI controller number to automate...
