Sonderwaffenlager "Lychen 2" Himmelpfort

Designed by the Soviets, but built and paid for by the German Democratic Republic - the Sonderwaffenlager "Lychen 2" Himmelpfort (Objekt 4001) was one of dozens of Soviet nuclear weapons storage facilities in East Germany.

Completed in 1968, it was strictly off limits to the East Germans - but was mean to distribute nuclear war heads to the East German 3rd Army in the case of a nuclear first or second strike.
It was decommissioned and handed over to the GDR in September of 1990 - two weeks before german reunification.
The site was torn down and the bunkers were sealed shut in the 2010s, and the area was reforested. Only the closed off bunkers remain today.
