I’m 62 and I can remember when I was a teenager catching fish on a rooster tail. It’s always been a fish catcher.
As an Alabama spotted bass guide, I've used Roostertails in streams for over 40 years now. The old "Glow Bug" (GBL) or black/gold blade is the #1 Survival Lure in my bugout bag. I only use 4 colors anymore; the GBL, grey minnow, black/silver blade, and the brown 'Salmon Fly'. One time, I was using the GBL on the Cahaba River here. A bluegill popped the surface and I fired a cast at it. The bream hit as soon as it landed. I fought it to the canoe where I saw WHY it had popped the surface. On one of my lure's hooks, inside the fish's mouth, was the still wiggling black army ant it had eaten. Talk about "Match the hatch"! Good stuff. 👍🏼👍🏼

For a bug out, I would throw a few olives in there. I have done a lot of spinner and fly fishing. Which always keep the big three (black, olive, and brown). If the water is stained then chartreuse and orange can be killer as well.

Dude I can’t believe you posted that exact lure. I bought a glitter black about a month ago and caught my 2 biggest ever brook trout on the very first two casts. Already my fav spinner. Awesome Vid 👌🏼

I have stream fished with Rooster tails, different types, only problem is snags...Nice fishin Hawk, for Natives!
When snags are a problem, I've had pretty good success using a curly tail grub. Fish it like you would fish a spinner. The important thing is that you rig the grub with the tail pointing up and centered with the hook shank of the Jughead. It will track straight if you rig it like that. You can retrieve it slower and not worry as much about snagging. Works great in situations where the fish aren't very aggressive.

Okay , first off, great vid as always....second, the Browns you caught that were wild n'all....do they "stock" Browns in the area you were fishin? I've heard of stocking Bows and the such but I haven't heard of stocking Browns. 🤷♂️ Just curious here n'all, nuthin more. Love the vidz man and plz keep em comin as always....peace ✌😎

I have a quick question for you, and others here too:
Why do my rooster tails frequently get tangled on themselves? They're connected to a snap-swivel at the end of my braid.
When I cast and then real end, I find the treble has got hooked on to the swivel or some other part of itself. That means my entire retrieve, I've just been reeling in a non-working lure!!
Ugh...
Any help would be appreciated!!

You are a better fisherman than me if you catch trout on Rooster Tails. Worst spinner ever. Panther Martin and even Mepps are much better.
