    A couple of ALICE tricks from someone that is too old. 1. Cut the meat hooks off the back of the Y harness, Replace with 550 Cord. Tie a loop of 550 through the alice clip slots on all pouches and loop around the belt so they don't fall off. Cut the dividers off the inside of the mag pouches. SAW pouch is good for utility pouch. If your are using a ruck cut the padding off the y harness so it does not dig in. Compass/Field Dressing pouch is good for a can of Copenhagen. Dummy cord the canteens to belt. For Canteen cut the tip of nipple off so it is about .5 diameter so it does not grow mold.

      I like the idea of dummy cording the canteens, I didn't think about that. When you are talking about cutting the tip of the canteen nipple off, I assume you are talking about the canteens with the NBC cap? I have one of those and then two that have just a plain cap and opening.

    • @gocyclic2491
      @gocyclic2491 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @Stormchaser87 yeah with the NBC bit. It is the grey cone-shaped thingy. Don't totally remove it as it helps seal the canteen

    • @vermontvermont9292
      @vermontvermont9292 Před měsícem

      @@Stormchaser87 you also don't want the canteen dummy cord to be too long either. Just enough so you don't lose it at night, or if you need to drop it quick you can and not have to worry about losing it. Once you find some cover you can put it back in the pouch. Dummy cord your compass too. You don't want to lose that.

    If you're trying to equip you and your buddies, I highly recommend alice gear. However, it has it's set backs:
    1.) Its super slow - adding pull tabs to mags speeds things up a bit. Indexing is a pain. And you need a dump pouch.
    2.) If you're getting a buttpack, Get the butt pack with the fastex buckes - the old school ones with the pull straps are a pain to futz up and access gear.
    3.) If you have extra $$$, look into getting British PLCE- the Brits updated the ALICE gear to be a little less cumbersome.

    just an FYI the guy wearing the LBV style carrier @7:40 area, his pouches wouldn't have been allowed in the field because of the button system it uses. the only things I remember ever being able to use button in my time from 1994 to 2009 were the "compass" pouch" and canteen covers. buttons specially metal buttons were/are a big No Go. the paint rubs off to the bare metal and becomes reflective. The LBV's that were issued back in the 90's we would use black duct tape over the buttoned areas.

    Great video. I've always loved ALICE gear, and I own a set of it myself too.
    Something important that you did mention but I think should've been touched on a bit more is that the belt can also attach other webbing. Something that I've seen a lot of people do nowadays is pair British PLCE yokes/webbing (Not much more expensive!) with the ALICE pistol belts, which is infinitely more comfortable and better distributes the weight. I personally prefer the ALICE webbing aesthetically, but I do plan to eventually jump on that bandwagon since I've seen the advantages of it while out airsofting with friends.

    Honestly ALICE gear is pretty cool but something thats dropped off the face of the earth is Gen 1 Molle which I've barely found any info about though i own a vest the accompanying belts 1 for regular use of the vest while the other is to assist in carrying the MOLLE pack while being able to quick release (which isn't too great considering the frame is polymer) but the pouches for early MOLLE are compatible for use with ALICE belts because the strap are long enough to weave around the belt whilst still being able to properly secure and even when used with the MOLLE vest you can see the influence from ALICE mag pouches in how the MOLLE pouches sit on the vest when attached

    5:23 Georgian military actually used these for AK mags, since in 2000s they recieved ALICE gear from the US but they still used old soviet AKMs or AK74s, so in 2006~ they used these but you can still see special forces use larger LC2 mag pouch that can hold AK mags? They look longer than a normal alice pouch not sure if they stretched overtime or they are specifically designed for AK mags.

    I find it funny that in the world of Eastern Bloc collecting people say the color is inconsistent, or that older gear was used longer because they are poor Communist Countries. Yet US gear has the same quirks. I know someone who was married to a Iraq war vet who was stuck using PASGT in the 2004 invasion, and who wasn't issued plates or anything. Everyone has units they prioritize getting gear to, grunts and conscripts just get what's left over.

    • @ShadowRegimeAirsoft
      @ShadowRegimeAirsoft  Před měsícem

      Absolutely, the same can be seen even today in the US Military. I know some guys that are still being issued UCP pattern gear with OCP uniforms.
      The early 2000s were a really wild time in the US for GI gear with the Alice system being phased out for the Molle system. Both systems were being mixed about with each other, topped off with woodland and desert pattern gear being worn together.

    • @ShadowRegimeAirsoft
      @ShadowRegimeAirsoft  Před 2 měsíci

      I'm not sure I fully understand your question. If you are asking about reloading from your shooting arm side, I am not sure what the correct doctrine is, but personally I use my trigger hand to grab a mag out of the pouch and insert it into the rifle, while holding my rifle with my right hand. I am a left-handed shooter, so this may be opposite for you. - Southpaw

    Alice pack is way better than molle. Molle is more modular, can form to any size and spec imaginable... but alice is more comfortable and practical and use metal frame while molle is lose and plastic.
    The old flick/lbe is also better than the molle 2 fighting load carrier. Seriously only used in basic training. Most soldiers just clip pouches to their iotv body armor. The molle fighting load carrier looks like a fishing vest. Can snap on pouches in countless places and combinations but again not practical or comfortable, so no one use it. The old flick was like suspenders.

      I'm thinking he didn't mention the LC-1 belt because he did not have one to display. The LC-2 and LC-3 belts are more commonly seen. I see the IIFS harness in a couple clips, but he could probably make that a separate video, it would be too long to talk about here. Same thing with Molle. The AK mags not being compatible is to show that this setup isn't designed for AK users. Those are a really popular airsoft platform. Weight comparison to what? He mentions how the Alice system distributes weight pretty evenly. Its a nylon system, so its not going to weigh much unloaded. Add in the known weight of the equipment you are adding to it, and there is your load weight.
