    I'm new to your channel and I absolutely LOVE it!. You make wonderful videos with easy-to-follow instructions. I've always been interested in bookbinding .. I worked at a public library decades ago. Now, after all these years, I'm going to give it a try.
    I'm a one-woman shop paper crafter .. creating personalized note cards, paper purses, simple notebooks/pads, etc. I even make 2-piece boxes using chip board, hand-covered with beautiful paper. And... I sew. ☺
    So, thank you for motivating me to get started on bookbinding.

    Nik, you’re the absolute best. I really appreciate your videos and teaching methods. I’ve got my stuff and I’m cleaning out for a craft space. I’m hoping you’ll address making book cloth with fabric sooner than later. Again... you’re the best!

    Oh my goodness...I burst into laughter when you said ''Book Binding is addictive'. This is no joke. It is true. I was making jewelry and selling it for years and have a small factory of gems and tools, but back in 2018, I saw a video on how to make a photo journal. I love taking pictures I made a hardback journal for my daughter-in-law. I now sell books and I don't see ever a time I won't be doing this Yes Once you go BOOK.. you won't go back. Love it, You were one of the first videos I watched Thanks

    Waxed dental floss works as a bookbinding thread in a pinch, especially if you're pinching pennies.

    • @starfieldofviolet
      @starfieldofviolet Před 5 měsíci

      Dental floss (waxed or otherwise) is PRICEY compared to polypropylene or polyester thread and beeswax! But maybe you just mean it's something a lot of people already have around the house.

    One more thing: if you use a plastic (uncertified) ruler, make sure to use it on all the measurements for one project. If the scale is off, it won't matter, as it will be off on all the measurements you take!

    GREAT video!! Once you start bookbinding you'll see every piece of chipboard as some type of book cover LOL ;) Cereal boxes, notebooks - you get something in the mail and it has chipboard in it? It will fill you with DELIGHT and you will build a nice collection/stash :) Sealemon did a video about making bookcovers with plastic table mats - that I love. The dollar store can be a treasure trove of items to use, as well.

    I found in learning the art of book binding that no-one who works it EVER tells you you NEED a CRADLE...Whether you make it yourself as they are pricey OR you purchase. This IMPORTANT point needs to be include (for a real looking book) otherwise Great vlog for begininers

    I think some caution is or might be applied in paper selection, so that paper stock is not selected that will deteriorate, is or will be dry and brittle, tears too easy, etc... or fades and bleeds what is printed on it....cheap recycled paper that has lines on it does not hold up well. Check the trash bin to see what loses ink fast and breaks down or weathers. There is a lot of paper, card board, card stock out there and some is cheap, weak, recycled trash paper. IMO I want my project to last years, best paper I can afford with perm ink or printed design, if that is part of the design goal.

    I tried to buy some of the "OTHER tools" on etsy and got overwhelmed. So many options that reviewers stated were such a "game changer" but I wasn't sure which would be helpful--spacers (and do they HAVE to be brass? duh-duh-duuuuuh!)? T-squares? Corner miters? Corner miters in different sizes?!!?!
    Help!!! We need a Tools 2.0!! 😂😂

    I decided several days ago to get into bookbinding. I've been watching everything I can and trying to figure out what I need to start and so far no one has actually answered my questions specifically. I just wish someone would say. For this project get THIS > I have been trying to find chipboard for days. 22 point, 30 point, WTH, NO ONE mentions points. Yet the sellers keep telling me points, NOT 3mm..
    Sorry, I'm a bit frustrated. Oh and paste paper. You are now telling me not to use paper on covers... I get it, you can do about anything, and everyone has their ways.
    Right now it's the board for covers that is bothering me. I have to order it, there is no place near me that sells anything.
    LOL I will stop venting to you. I will go check out more of your videos, perhaps you are the one. ;-)

    • @starfieldofviolet
      @starfieldofviolet Před 5 měsíci

      Right. But some of the boards she has there look like the back of pads or spiral notebooks and that's still cardboard - it's just not corrugated. I'll have to research if cardboard is simply pressed paper (I believe so) and chipboard has an additional element (tiny wood fibers?) to make it stronger. Because we're not just talking about degrees of thickness. Interesting sidebar and fantastic video overall!
