  • Today we cut out the spent raspberry canes, and tied in the new canes for next years raspberry crop. We planted some some early peas dwarf peas, for a autumn crop.
    We also summer pruned the apple tree, to improve cropping. This tree will also need winter pruning

    • @CastleHillGarden
      @CastleHillGarden  Před měsícem +1

      Hi daina, the peas I sowed were kelvedon wonder, any early dwarf peas would give a crop. Take care regards Cliff.

    Great video as always, Thankyou. Do you prune plum trees in the same manner Cliff?

    • @CastleHillGarden
      @CastleHillGarden  Před měsícem +1

      Yes I do Helen, but stone fruit needs to be pruned in the summer on a dry day. This is to avoid silver leaf that's carried in the rain. Take care regards Cliff.

      Hi sajadahmed, If you didn't remove the old canes, the new canes would struggle to grow and produce fruit. Take care regards from us both.

    Hi I was wondering where you got your pruner from for pruning your apple tree? I've taken on a new allotment and have many fruit trees of which are in desperate need of pruning.
    Love the channel guys

      Hi Laura, I bought this pruner years 15 years ago, cant think where I bought it. They are still available you could try Amazon. Thanks for watching regards Cliff.

    Cliff and Dianne thank you for a most opportune video but I now have lopper envy!
    I need to summer prune my apple trees, but although I have a nice new pole tree lopper/pruner, it requires the chord to be pulled to operate the jaws. I find this very hard on my old hands, but I spied your lever pull. Now look as I may I cannot find any lopper with that lever.
    Can you tell me what make it is please.

    • @CastleHillGarden
      @CastleHillGarden  Před měsícem +1

      I don't know If they are still available, I have had this one over 20 years. Try Amazon they seem to carry a good stock of useful pruners regards Cliff.

    Hello Cliff and Diane! Can you tell me what kind of peas you planted? Are they for shoots or for fully developed peas? I noticed today my green beans look like they put on some growth, they were not doing anything for a long time. And I dont know if we'll get any beans for shelling, they are pathetic this year.

    • @CastleHillGarden
      @CastleHillGarden  Před měsícem

      Hi Mary, the peas I planted were Kelvedon wonder dwarf peas, they are good peas as they grow quickly. Our beans are also struggling although the coco de paimpol, seem to be thriving. Its been a difficult season this year regards Cliff.

    Cliff can you take cuttings from raspberries?

    • @CastleHillGarden
      @CastleHillGarden  Před měsícem

      Hi LouiseKing, It is possible but not always successful, but easier to take a root runner from the plant in the autumn. Take care regards Cliff.
