    Real world example, last month a roofer came out to my house and convinced me to file an insurance claim on my house citing hail damage, I let them do so for me, and a few weeks later an adjuster shows up says they found NO significant damage. They call the company again requesting another adjuster, who comes out and same results. Now I have 2 claims on my CLU report and had to pay over 20k out of pocket for a reroof as mine was over 22 years old. Needless to say I hired a different roofing company to do the work

      You may not have 2 claims unless you're with Allstate. Other companies won't file that as separate claims.

      Was that contractor present when the adjuster was out? Don’t blame the roofer. They were probably trying to help. However, Insurence companies are getting harder and harder to approve storm damage. Now a 22 year old roof? Probably been hit by multiple storms, that’s on you homeowner. Roofs don’t last 20-25 years. That’s crap especially if hail hits it and multiple times. Get your roof inspected after every good size hail storm. Trying to get a claim approved with a 22 year old roof good freaking luck! Let it be lesson to you now that a deductible after a storm is WAY better than $22k out of pocket.

    love the content, glad someone is helping to educate us more. so thanks! :D
    question - Zero claims filed in the past 12 years. I just switched from Allstate to Progressive for cost savings. I had my roof inspected (they used drone footage to show me damage) and said they recently did roof replacement for someone nearby with insurance covered it in full due to a hail storm from Aug 2023 while covered by AllState. The company seems reputable, done my research. Seems like a possible win-win for me, because if i open a case with my old insurer; if they deny it. no harm since i have a new company. Am I right with my logic? or can it hurt me with my current provider if i file a claim that gets denied ?

      Having claims on your record is never a good thing. Trying to get a carrier to pay a claim (especially if it's Allstate) after your coverage has lapsed would probably be a challenge.

    How much should a roof repair cost on a single story home, not very steep roof? There's a small leak into garage on roof ridge and you have box of spare shingles and ridge shingles? Trying to find this info in your videos.

      You'll have to get bids from roofers in your area. Labor and material costs vary depending on the part of the country.

    I've always understood that the act of god events like hail, wind, tornado, hurricanes are not counted against the homeowner or policy holder. In most cases windstorm events are separate from the homeowner's policy and sometimes carry a larger deductible.

    I think you are leading your viewers down the wrong path here. You should never, ever file an insurance claim period unless your house has been completely destroyed by fire, hurricane or something. I don't know if you are following the news but nearly every insurance company is looking for any excuse to drop you and by making a claim you are putting yourself in great jeapordy. Getting a new roof is normal maintenance like getting your home painted, it's something everyone should budget for. We had a tree fall down and damage our roof last year, cost me 15k to fix it, sure I could have called State Farm but sure as hell I didn't. Stuff happens, you just have to take care of it, it's part of home ownership.

    • @garrett3698
      @garrett3698 Před 28 dny

      If you have State Farm, admit you've lost the game. All commercial brands with the exception of USAA and farmers(all 3 too), all commercial brands are given a JPEG file of softball sized hail as reference of hail damage. If its under a half-inch they'll treat it like wear and tear because they do not know what they are looking at. I know, because I roof too. In fact today, I was tasked with observing an adjustor, who was highly confrontational by the way, to look at me and my buddy's roof we were trying to get replaced and he said he could notice only wear and tear and that the turbines were soft metal. "And can we all agree that the metals are just really soft, man?" With that sentence structure, no sir. And if I see that same man again, I legally can file for litigation against StateFarm for conflict of interest.

      @@homesteadroofing That video didn't answer my question. My question is I have hail damage and I call my insurance company and an adjuster comes out, but I choose not to accept any money from the insurance and I pay for it myself? Would the be considered a claim?

      @patrickbunce3372 Před 10 měsíci +2

      @UpWithMyDrone yes. I'm an adjuster. Filing a claim period counts as a claim regardless if the damage is less than the deductible and you get nothing or if you get something and send it back. It's still a claim. The only way to not have a claim after making the initial phone call is to withdraw it before the adjuster comes out.

  • @patrickbunce3372
    @patrickbunce3372 Před 10 měsíci +1

    This video isnt coming across well in many respects. First off, number 4. Youre basically saying if youve filed a couple claims on other products and your home gets smoked by hail, youre saying to not file a claim? So you know your roof got smoked may 1 of 2023 and since you dont want a third, your going to knowingly not file and then what,, file later. You need to read the part of the policy that claims need to be filed in a timely manner. Say its wind and your missing shingles making the roof susceptible to leaking. You not gonna file that third claim and have water leaking in the house. No. If you have a legit claim, you dont want the day you file to be way beyond the date of loss.
    Number 3, exclusions,,, whats it matter if the soft metals aren't covered, you still need to file. Sure its good to know but your video makes it sound like if you have an exclusion on soft metals then what, dont file? Then see what happens as i stated above.
    Number 2. ACV v RCV. Again the date of loss is the date of loss,, whatever policy you have in place during that time is what it is. Say you have a ACV and your roof got hit hard on may 1 and your policy ends on may 31, then you switch to a RCV. What then, wait and hope for a nother hail storm? Your insurance will pull a weather report. And say you have to wait 4 years or more for another storm, as an adjuster, you can tell old hail damage from recent. Regardless if you have RCV or ACV if you have a legit claim, file. Dont commit insurance fraud.
    1. Deductible. Same thing. It is what it is. The only thing to say about this is know what it is so youre not surprised and make sure the damage justifies filing. For example if your deductible is 1k and damage is 1200, dont file to get a 200 check. If its your roof, try your best to make sure its a no-brainer total. Often roofs are either a minimum charge repair or a total,, seldom are they in-between. Get someone honest to tell you if you have 4, 6, 8, 10+ damaging hail strikes in a 10x10 area. Often adjusters need 8+.
    Bottom line, if you have a legit claim, get a good accurate assessment of the damage, then determine if insurance, after they take out the deductible, will give you enough funds to make it worth it. Do not delay if you know you have damage. Its in your policy,, you call an agent and ask these questions then wait and wait and then file with some far back DOL (date of loss), there could be problems. File in a timely manner. Not sure what this video is trying to advise people to do.
