I got one from "Santa" in 1966. Was one of my best Christmas toys ever. However, over time, all the launchable projectiles were "lost" or quietly taken by my parents so I wouldn't shoot my brothers and sisters. The cap pistol finally was broken beyond repair by my children. A great toy.
I just got a "warning" from youtube that I've never seen before. It claimed this video is considered offensive, and made me click "I understand and wish to continue" before I could watch. A video in which a guy politely demonstrates vintage toys is offensive. Nothing has ever made me want to abandon this site more.
Just managed to purchase one of these this week for my father, he always wanted one as a kid but at the time the family couldn't afford one for him I can't wait to give it to him for his birthday
Like other toys from the 60s, it was made of plastic, but a solid thick one. I had one of these that I got from my American uncle. Recently I picked it down from the cellar. The launchers were broken, some springs were no longer staying in place, but being so solid, I managed to drill it, put screws in the right places and now it works again. With modern toys this would have been very unlikely.
This is the best post of the whole thread! It’s so gratifying fixing your old toys I remember my dad doing it and I went in to make a business fixing stuff other people thought was broken beyond repair, the rest is history …
DANG!!! My brother and I got ours for Christmas in 1964, it was around 67 degrees that day. We had a blast that day. Remember watching the commercials on TV and every kid wanted one and I mean girls too.
Coolest toy I ever got in the 60's. Played war with it for a few years until I completely wore it out. Most memorable toy of any I ever got. Was great getting it in the 60's. Now days you get a warning from youtube claiming some snowflakes I guess might be offended watching this video. This was as the guy reviewing it said, a very fun toy gun, awesome.
I got one from Santa and had great fun with it. Even as a kid I took care of things, so never lost any bullets or grenades. I eventually grew out of it (think when I was 26 :) I remember my mum asking me, if her friend could have it for her young son. I agreed, but was a bit upset when he broke it the same day, before even leaving our house. I still remember that feeling even to this day , well over 50 years later.
My dad bought me one in the mid 60's. I thought it was silly and never used it very much. It was one of the toys that got a lot of ad time on tv. This thing would not be popular with parents today. That's what makes it much cooler now than it was then.
I remember all too well, the Johnny Seven. I got it for Christmas. My brothers and I fought over it constantly. With today’s safety standards, it would never have made it to the store shelves. Too many ways to injure someone.
I had this gun when I was a kid, fabulous toy those were the days when kids new how to play adventure was the name of the game, thank god that was my time I would hate to be a kid growing up in the lunatic asylum we have today.
I remember one Christmas, I wanted this one special toy. A Johnny Seven OMA gun. I still remember the commercial like it was yesterday. Two kids playing out in the backyard. The thing looked like a blast. But, of course for my old man, Christmas was just another opportunity to let me down. I never did get that Johnny Seven OMA. Ah, it don't mean nothing.... Have you ever heard of a guy named Scott Sherman? He was my old neighbor. And his dad got him a Johnny Seven OMA gun. You know what happened? He became a billionaire. And me, well, I'm just a loser, with no future.
I had one made myself Sick with excitement waiting for Christmas morning. I was 9 years old 1964. Seems like yesterday wish mum and dad would have kept it but it disappeared in the mists of time.
What I would do to own my OMA again. Every boy and adult man in my street was so jealous. Well done brought back so many super memories. Feel free to send me a spare one if you have it. Ha Ha Ha. 🏴
This was the coolest toy ever....(for the time) I got one for Christmas when I was 7 (1964) and was the envy of all my buddies... we played a lot of Army back in those days....
I remember this being mentioned in Jingle All The Way by the postman! The actual gun reminds me of an Aliens pulse rifle with chunks replaced by other stuff.
@@carsarecoo Toy guns still need the orange tip even where guns are legal. It’s pretty important just so people (and especially cops!) can immediately tell if someone is pointing a real gun at them.
I'm 60 this year and I can remember one of my friends having one of the Johnny Seven guns back in the sixties. I never actually had one myself but I liked it. I'm from England.
Great description of the rifle. I actually played with this gun. Had a lot of fun. I m 64 years old. Good memories. Thanks for posting this. I didn t know it could still be found. .I might look for one on e-bay to buy for my grandson.
Why is this age restricted? I see no acts of violence, no graphic language, adult situations, vulgar humor etc. Are you telling me that a vintage toy demonstration is now considered obscene? It's just a toy ( a real fancy sweet one). I love the presentation and I hope to see more. Keep up the good work.
Is this a reproduction model? The way you word it is this is an original gun from the the 60s that has been re-packaged, but that doesn't make any sense and I don't think 50 year old plastic would look that good. Even as a Reproduction it's still a cool bit of toy gun history. -Justin
I had a Johnny Seven back in the day. The box was as tall as I was. The white plastic bullets disappeared (lost) quickly and the bi-pod broke easily but the remainder of the gun lasted years. I liked the machine gun feature most and remember well the sound it made. I'd love to find an OMA now.
Owned one back in the day. They originally came in a large display box with a plastic cellophane window. You could have removed the butt plate stock and avoided tearing the cardboard that held it in its packaging. The bullets were easily lost ,so you had to be careful when shooting the rifle portion of the gun. The plastic projectiles had a piece that would be held in place for the spring loaded mechanism that allowed for the discharge of the bunker and armor piercing pieces. Those would often break after a few shots making them unusable. The pistol had a cheesy cap gun that would move the caps unevenly causing them to jam after a while. All in all it was a 9 year olds fantasy when playing army. I owned a lot of war weapons while growing up and so far have never killed anybody. I hear you! This toy was way before my time, but what boy between age five and 105 wouldn't be overjoyed to find this under the Christmas tree!?!?!? I had an *arsenal* of cap guns as a child. (I still do, thanks to my amazing mom carefully keeping my childhood toys, she must have known I was going to have an amazing little boy of my own one day, cuz I do!) I was taught firearms safety from a young age. My dad wisely used toy guns as a teaching aid. We had so many wonderful times together, pretending to be cowboys, Davy Crockett, French Foreign legionnaires, African adventurers, etc! As I got older, we transitioned to real firearms and it is a passion we share to this day! I've added the Johnny Seven OMA to my cap gun collection and it's a beautiful piece of history and childhood fun!
I also had a toy gun arsenal as a kid. On one occasion when I was about 8 years old, I accidentally left a very realistic cap gun (An Edison Giocattoli Jaguarmatic, which is an exact copy of a Lama mark IV .380) between the cushions of a couch in the lobby of a big hotel. The police were called. The officers were extremely nice to me! They gave me a super cool "Jr" NYPD badge, which I still own. That was my favorite childhood cap gun, I owned several of the same model. When I was 22 I bought a real llama mk IV, which is a beautiful 3/4 scale 1911 style pistol. I'm still looking for a Jaguarmatic, they are hard to find!
This video is very badly done, he put the camera on the garage door and we couldnt even see where and how long the gun if shooting. I think he might have missed the tommy gun, it might have worked but he didnt know how to set it up (?)

That’s some present to be given back then by Santa, would have been expensive toy back then?
Me too. I was about 4 years old,
Do they still make these?
To my knowledge, they haven't been made for at least 50 years.
Amazing you didn't grow up and shoot up a school......Like it's not about the guns but it's actually the culture.....

I have a Johnny seven
Missing anti tank missile and armor piercing shell
Had one when I was 6 for Xmas loved it along with a man from u.n.c.l.e gun
I remember there being an updated version in the 90s but can’t remember what it was called. Does anyone know the name?
Had many Toy Guns ( large box worth ) and Johnny 7 was always my Favorite .
Can you tell me where you got the reproduction box from. Would love to get one. Thanks.
The armor piercing round reminds me of my dog when he gets excited....
Always wanted one of these, never got it though. What a deprived childhood I had!!!
Got one when I was about 7/8 years old, ‘67/8 😊
I had one. Wish I still had it.
My brother got this for Christmas back in the sixties and him and me shot most of the bulb's off the tree, ma was pissed ! True story

WHAT HELL is with the warning before the video, all about
there`s a white bloke with a gun.
There's a picture of a child with a gun. The PC agenda's triggered.
It's probably the school shooter on the package.
Such a ghey warning 😮
I know right
How is this offensive i got a notice saying this has been identified as offensive and inappropriate

Because it is a toy gun and snowflakes might get get triggered at the sight of a gun.
They should put this gun in Fallout 4 as a mod
That would be awesome

Nathan McMasters Even better!

for some reason this video has an offensive warning at the start :/
tape is there bc of laws with orange tips. makes it legal to ship
does you country allow real guns? If not then that is probably why you don't need the orange tip.

I swear bruh some toys back then were awesome
It would be so awesome if you do a range test! Like if u agree
+John Lynch it would me
I don’t think it would have any range since it’s so old
Bo Cox actually im pretty sure it would have the same range as a nerf gun
Well some nerf guns
John Lynch
No lol he wouldn't like tge pieces missing
Yeah I don't know why he didn't do one. atleast do an fps test.
The kids in the advert are probably 60 now.
