Although this is probably Arabic, the two peoples originally spoke very close native Aramaic dialects. Actually, according to some theories, Israelites and the peoples of what is now Lebanon and Syria were just Canaanites, and especially Lebanon!
According to the recent findings of Israeli archaeologists, it was mostly a religious montheistic rift between the Hebrews as Canaanite polytheists and the other Caananite tribes, which is evident from the very fact that Ilu (Ugaritic for El) and Athirat (Ugaritic for Asherah) were worshiped by all Levantines back them and El is essentially a Canaanite God! So, if we consider that Israelites did not take over Canaan but were rather just another people living in the area, what we have is only ... Canaanites, which is wonderful and totally coherent with the later Aramaic-speaking unity of the Levant (of course, considering the Semitic peoples but of course there were always the Indo-iranian tribes, which are now known as the Kurds around, from Bashur (or Iraqi Kurdistan as some call it), and Rojava (in northern Syria).
