About the game:
#UBOAT is a simulator of a #submarine from #WWII era. It is a survival sandbox with crew management mechanics while its primary theme is life of German sailors. The boat is their home, but it can become their grave at any time.

You should put navigation over watching. It's necessary always having this high as possible. Plus, watch is an endless task, while navigation is done in an hour or two. To make sure of this you should overlab the shifts.

Yeah... the crew may not need sleep, but I'm never going to do this schedule because it's immersion breaking 🙂

I had some reservations about this too, until I remembered an irl Uboat crew was much larger than depicted here. Just imagine it's different sailors rotating out as they're supposed to (remember that uboats used "hot bunks", meaning there were only enough beds for half the crew, since only half needed to rest at any one time).

I append two letters to the crew names, for watch, engines, sailors and torpedo men. The two letters show up above the character.

I'm just getting started so some of the stuff I see in the game I can't yet figure out. Right now, what do the numbers in the red circle to the top right of each officer tell me?
@kimghanson this is an older vid, I have one that's more up to date on this. The red circle shows how many things they can interact with: radio channels, surface contacts etc

Is it normal for your crew to constant change from one working station to another? My mechanic won't stay on the engine for more than 3 seconds? He'll head for bed but only get about 5 ft from his original position and then head straight back to the engine? Also I keep getting the red notification that no one is covering the Helmsman station? I'll tinker around with this but I figure duty watch would cover this aspect?

That first bit sounds like a bug. The helmsmen station is an annoying quirk of the game, as the npcs don't move fast enough to prevent the alert for the 30 seconds before the crew takes over. I did it exactly as you did in your video, but my sailors Engine One and Two are still idle when I have my mechanics officer do another task. Leaving my boat at a halt. Did something in the latest patch screw something up?
Not that I'm aware of but sometimes they sort of de-link themselves. Remove them from the squad and re add them. Works for me.

@@Lite_lySalted No, sadly, it didn't work. I told my officer working the engines to warm up a torpedo. The guys assigned to him, Mech.Three and Four, just went to bed. And Eng.One and Two were idle. Weird.
Ok. I assigned 2 more sailors to the Engines schedule. Now the engines are manned at all times. Sweet

@@Lite_lySalted I was in England in the noughties when the slew of nieces and nephews began to appear back in NI. There was no context, having never met them and being useless with names anyway I took to referring to them as Ba 1, Ba 2, Ba 3 etc... to the horror of my mother. I can report that 'Ba 1' is now doing a degree in Computers and Engineering or somesuch. Time marches on.
