  • Welcome to another week on the road with me! In this week’s video, explore the Isle of Skye - but with a twist.
You’ve heard of the Old Man of Storr
You’ve heard of the Fairy Pools
... but have you heard of these places?
I’ve chosen five places on the Isle of Skye that I think are worth visiting but perhaps don’t get the spotlight they deserve.
    The places to visit:
    Talisker Bay Beach
Location: Near Glendale, on the West coast
    Cost: Free
    Parking: Free road parking
Points of interest: The Talisker Waterfall plunges over 400 feet onto the rocks below
Things to consider: Parking is a 5-10 minute walk from the beach. The beach is shingles, not sand.
Verdict: It’s up there with one of my favourite beaches
    Neist Point
Location: The most westerly tip of Skye with views out to the Western Isles
    Cost: Free
Parking: Free road parking + gift shop
Points of interest: Stop near the sea cliff on the way to the lighthouse to spot nesting sea birds, including gannets, black guillemots and razorbills.
Things to consider: The trail from the parking is steep, go steady.
Verdict: This place feels like the end of land! The sunset made it very dramatic.
    Dunvegan Castle
    Location: MacLeod Estate, in Dunvegan
Cost: £14 per adult, for castle and gardens. £12 for the gardens only.
Parking: Free onsite parking + gift shop and cafe
Points of interest: Go off the main track and you’ll find some secret viewpoints of the castle
Things to consider: It gets busy! Go as early as you can to beat the crowds.
Verdict: A great family-friendly day out. You learn a lot and the gardens are HUGE.
    Kinlock Forest
Location: Drumfearn, at the top of the Sleat peninsula
    Cost: Free
Parking: Free car park at the start of the hiking trail
Points of interest: Don’t miss Leitir Fura, the ruins of a medieval town.
Things to consider: Some parts of this trail are steep, go steady.
Verdict: Beautiful views over the trees and across the water
    Castle Moil
    Location: Kyleakin
    Cost: Free
Parking: Free car park in Kyleakin, a 10 minute walk from the castle
Points of interest: The shipwreck is awesome! But don’t graffiti it like some trash bag has!
Things to consider: The tide times! Don’t get stuck at the castle, or you’ll be going for an unexpected swim
Verdict: Short and easy walk to an interesting point of history. The shipwreck really makes it.
Will you be adding any of these places to your travel list? Comment which ones below.

I really like the idea of exploring the lesser-known paths behind Dunvegan Castle. Thank you.

What a brilliant film. It’s so obvious the amount of time and effort that went into this. Filming it, editing and studying and fact-checking your information.
    Great job Helen Louise. 👍🏼

Wow! I've been to Dunvegan castle twice for the Silver Chanter Piobaireachd competiton, but never walked the gardens. I will definitely add this lovely walk to my itinerary next time I'm there. Thanks for the new view of a familiar place.

A great video and love the music too. I'm new to drone usage but I do like the smoothness of your control. Dunvegan Castle always looks a bit uncared for and that said, probably gets a lot of bad weather! It was nice to see a few places we have visited before through the eyes of another!

    • @nell0uise
      @nell0uise  Před rokem

Thank you, the drone has taken a bit of getting used to! The condition of the castle didn't really stand out to me whilst I was there. I think the well kept grounds give a grand appearance, so perhaps that masks the building a bit

16:49 The warning about tides is not entirely necessary - there is a track to Kyleakin through the bracken behind the beach.

Great video Helen :) I think I'm quite likely to add Talisker Bay Beach to my list, but I'm a bit curious as to where you can park? Looking on the Google Map, it seemed there was an area perhaps, the end of the pavement that met a couple of gates plus the dirt track you took. Is that where? Nice work with the drone too, very smooth.

  • @gregpatterson134
    @gregpatterson134 Před rokem

Ditto what others have said, very well done video. What camera equipment do you use? Also, was it easy to fly your drone without disrupting others ? I'm head there in 2 weeks and questioning to bring my drone and the hastle flying with extra camera gear from US. But, some amazing places and I have already obtained a UK drone recreational iic. I don't want to take away from others experiences with buzzing about, but if I can find out of the way locations and fly respectfully, it would be great to get some shots and footage of Skye and other spots in Scotland.
Your walking videos look like action camera, but do you use other equipment? Thanks for sharing.
