- Hey, here's some more details about the anamorphot! I didn't include it in my review because technical stuff can get long-winded and boring.
Test shots were on the Olympus EM5 mk II.
I used only two lenses for the test shots:
Nikon 50mm AI
Nikon 85mm AI-s
So the step up rings I mentioned are technically called macro couplers. I bought them both on ebay, the first one was a 24-37 female to female Cokin macro coupler (which doesn't quite fit, but works well enough), and the other one was a 37-52mm male to male macro coupler, which I got from some China seller, I think.
Although it's a 1.5x adapter, the stretch factor can vary a bit based on how far away you focus. In my primitive, nonscientific studies this is what I found:
Under 1ft you need to squeeze the horizontal axis by 75.2%
2-4ft you squeeze by 69%
5ft and over is true 1.5x so you squeeze by 67%.
Again, I didn't do no scientific analysis, but roughly that's what I found.
And one final thing, on my m4/3 camera the widest focal length with light vignetting was 35mm with the metabones speedbooster. So anything above that, and you should be golden. If you have a Blackmagic pocket and an m43 speedbooster, then there should be no vignetting at 35mm.
Anyways, hope that helps! Happy anamorphotting!

Never knew how much I missed the sense of existential dread in camera reviews until now. Subbed!
The footage looks good!
love your humour!!.. and very informative :D thanks for the vid
Great review man! Like your sense of humor. subbed!!
How do you do the dual focussing with nikkor lenses? care to share?
T Chongloi Thanks! So for dual focusing, it was easiest with my Nikon 50mm Ai, because the distance markings on both the adapter and the taking lens roughly matched up. I would guess how far away my subject was... so say my subject was 1 meter away, I'd turn to the 1 meter mark on both my nikon and the bolex moller. Then I just nudge the focus on each until they seemed in focus. I definitely relied on focus peaking and zoom in to check if I was really in focus. Definitely took some practice, but ended up not as hard as I thought it would be.
Thanks for the response. Hopefully I too would be able to do it when it arrives :)
That was hilarious, and informative! Just got a new sub!
RyanBCreative Thanks for watching and subscribing!
great stuff, thanks for the review, do you think moller can go on full frame?
amazing work...what advice do you have for me i have an eos 60d and i want that same look i see on your test shots
+HerotheValiant Thanks for all the comments! The bolex moller creates a lot of look that you see in the video. It's old glass and adds some character to the digital image. To replicate it on the 60d, you may want to look into vintage lenses like the Helios 44-2 and then get an m42 to eos adapter. I find using old lenses adds a bit of character to dslr footage. I also have a set of old nikon lenses that I adapter to canon sometimes, and that helps too. Another thing I might have used here, I don't remember exactly, but I might have used the premiere add-on film convert to give the footage a slightly more film-like look.
i also dont care about anything but like to fill my time with oval shaped lenses. therefor i like this channel
That was a funny review. Specially the lamb thing hahaha
i have that bolex lens and i gotta say, you make the lens look really good. I've actually not had any oval bokeh, strangely enough. Maybe because i use it with a 25mm c-mount on a bmpcc. Guess i should try some 85mm canon's.
jftvrwk Yeah I'm not sure if I have a weird awesome copy or what. It just sings whenever I use it. It looks awesome with an 85mm lens for sure.
btw on that focussing thing: if you have a lens that focusses the same direction, dual focussing is not that hard. If you'd really want to use it for run and gun type of stuff, theres a new product on the market called the rectilux, they have focus adapters specifically made for this anamorphot. (and many more)
jftvrwk Yeah, I've been keeping my eye on those rectilux people. Very intriguing.
How wide can you go with that adaptor? Can it handle between 35 and 50mm without vignetting?
what focal length of taking lens is without vignetting? on a gh5 or sony a7s?
are there any readily available things to buy that'll make this a single focus?
Does Iscorama 36 also vary in compression rate based on the focus point?
hi, thanks for an amazing video. What is a front filter size?
+Дмитрий Тихонов 39mm
If I have a cmount type camera, can I just put it directly on my camera or do I need a taking lens?
nice review. question: does it work with voigtlander 17.5mm and do it vignetting so need to crop video?
Christophe Russo I don't own the lens to test it, but if I were to guess, it would probably vignette on a GH4 and maybe not or have light vignetting on a BMPCC. Again, just a guess.
ExcitementBicycle Ok thank you! like so much yours videos
