  • Today I decided to see how well the new Dragon GTS v2 did at climbing ridiculous hills that stretch on! This one's cheaper than the GTR v2 and I think It kicks some serious ass for a budget electric scooter!
    I ride wearing a full face Motor cross helmet, gloves and usually a thick jacket, I'm not taking any chances and you shouldn't either, wear some protection while riding :)
    www.bikescootercity.com.au have been very kind to me lately and sent this electric scooter to me to show to all of you, as soon as it's available on the website I should have a discount code to share with you, so don't forget to subscribe and turn on notifications so you don't miss out on yours!
    (Disclaimer: I do get a small kickback from BSC for you using my codes, you don't have to use them, but if you do, I greatly appreciate you supporting this channel and my crazy PEV experiments)
    Thanks again BSC, I love the new GTS v2 way more than my old GTR or even my modded GTS!
    Reddit: u/Forlix1 / forlix1 - Check out my posts for early access to my discount codes, there's already ones for the GT, X1, GTS, GTR and GTR v2 along with written reviews and modifications for electric scooters!
    I also now make videos for BSC's website, so don't be surprised if you hear my voice while you're looking for the scooter that suits your needs!
    For those of you interested in this scooter, it is now available on BSC's website (bikescootercity.com.au/collec...) and use Code: Pineapple45 to save $45 on your new Dragon!
    A BIG thank you to the community over at r/ElectricScooters, without the encouragement to finally start making videos it probably would've taken me even longer to get started. Go on over there if you want a nice place to chat about your new rides!
    I got the reddit Icon from www.flaticon.com/authors/freepik and changed it to purple.
    If you're looking for Dragon Scooter discount codes to use at BikeScooterCity.com.au;
    PINEAPPLE30 - GT/X1

    Great ride, I watched this just after I bought a Dragon GTR v2 and it was useful to see. Have a couple of months using the v2 and can do most with it including steep hills in the inner city of Sydney. Shame about this PH****NG lockdown or I would have more time up on it but its a ton of fun.

    So today I popped this thing open finally, hooked up the front motors regen braking and disabled all PAS by disconnecting the Red jumper cables on the controllers.
    Going fo r atest ride later today to see what it can really be like riding this thing fully unlocked with better electronic brakes!

      If you do this, prepare for a rather violent braking experience, if you're not prepared to brake when you hit that lever (adjusting your stance) it WILL shift you quite a bit. Does however pretty well remove the need for brakes at all though, stopping quickly is not an issue at all!

      Cheers man, I have a mount for the gopro on the right side of the helmet on the jaw (I ride with a fullface) lets me sit the camera right infront of my mouth and the mic just fits under my chin, using a cheap joby mini mic. Best thing for shots though is a tripod doing wide angles, I wish you could see the scooter more in it.
      A cdhest mounted go-pro might be abetter option all together though as thats what I see other uploaders like Alien Rides doing ;)
      Keen to see how hard the GTS v2 rips vs the GTR v2, had the opportunity to ride one the other day and I need to do a proper "race" to stack them up against eachother properly. Let me know if you're up for the challenge ;)

      That was Toogood Rd in Woree, Cairns. Its incredibly steep to the point that the camera does not do it justice at all.

      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 2 lety

      No way would I put the GTR v2 up against a constant climb like that, it’s a bit too long sadly. It would do it, but not too many times. Unless you’re taking a break while temps rise in the motors.
      Unfortunately I’m no longer in Cairns, I gave up the little city for Brisbane in order to get closer to the PEV scene!

    • @dsmglobal1
      @dsmglobal1 Před 2 lety +1

      So I’m not the only oldie here. I’m in my 66+ & have 3 x E scooters. Dualtron Thunder, Ultra & a humble M365 Pro. All of them are lots of fun in particular Thunder my 7 ribs can vouch for it a year ago when I got a little too adventurous with the “trigger” maxing it out. Now I’m deciding to get another toy to my stable like a Dragon. No longer interested in 80km plus rides 50k is more than I need. I’m tossing between GTS V2 or GTR V2 ? My weight is 107 kg at times a little more when I pack drones etc & enjoy long rides on our great bike paths in Canberra ACT. I have a seat on my Dualtron Ultra where it makes it very comfortable & can still stand up riding when needed. Can anyone tell me the range (km) on both GTR V2 & GTS V2. That would be great. I must add that my Dualtron Ultra has off road tyres which I use it on paths etc with little bit of noise hardly noticeable. Any comment would be appreciated.

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 2 lety

      @@dsmglobal1 they should both get about 50km out of them if you’re not ripping up hills all day quite easily!
      There is a seat option for both too by the way, honestly for the tubeless tires I’d go the GTR v2 at the moment, the GTS v2 is current short/out of stock anyways and the GTR v2 has wider motors.
      Be warned these ones are full of torque and not very much speed, but they are a good load of fun!
      There are other options for tires too if you contact BSC about it after making your purchase!
      You’d be surprised how many people are over their 50’s and riding around on these scooters, it blows my mind every day ✌🏻
      Ps I still think the X10 with a 23ah battery and the speed limited is the best choice xD

      @@JamiePineappleWyatt thank you so much for your response & your thoughts on the few scooters that I am interested to add to my stable. Now you did it. I was about set my mind on GTR V2, than in your last paragraph you gave your thoughts on X10 & now I have a problem deciding. It’s a toss between GTR V2 or X10? My only concern is the weight of X10 approx 35 kg oppose to 25kg GTR V2 Any known issues like motors, controller or software with X10? I wonder after reading your in-depth your excellent article from a while back in particular re GTR V2 previous issues? I’m wondering - did the manufacture rectified all of the issues that you indicated to them? Hopefully, its all good now with the current GTR V2’s models. Is it possible get better few things on GTR V2 like brakes tyres battery, etc,.? Does anyone know the width & length of the deck on GTR V2 & X10. My Dualtron looks as it is so much larger all around. These days top speed don’t interests me much anymore (45km/h on straight is just fine ) just the torque & comfort as my weight is 105kg. I plan to take the scooters ( Dualtron & don’t know yet??) with us in M-home when we will be able to travel again. We’re all waiting for this day I guess. Have to be positive.. Any suggestions very much appreciated. Happy scooting...

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 2 lety +1

      @@dsmglobal1 both the gtr v2 and x10 do have the front motor cable wrapping around suspension parts (you can turn the x10 too far and wreck the motor cable in a crash) but the gtr v2 has something similar anyways with the way it’s routed.
      With all scooters there are a few variations of tires, BSC stock all of the tires you’ve seen in my posts and on my channel, there are 3” wide road, 3” wide semi off roads (the tires now on my x10), 2.7”(3”) road slicks and the tubeless tires that come on the gtr v2.
      In regards to the manufacturing changes they have begun to impliment a few, including new side plates on the motors, more current supply from the batteries, ESC’s are updated, displays have changed to a blue backlit one, some one them are rolling out with white leds now and a few other small changes. There is more to go over time but that’s a little way down the track.
      If I were to personally choose between the two I would pick the X10 hands down every day, it has far more controllable grunt than the gtr v2, for example, I tuned down my x10 to do 5km/h and towed a wolf warrior that had two flat tires and an extra battery uphill to the servo to seat the beads. The motors barely got warm and it was not the shortest endeavour, the Hunter x10 has not failed me once when it comes to getting where I need to go and my weight was originally 120kg when I got it, I’ve been all over the place with it in Cairns and now Brisbane too, everything from stupid complex MTB off-road trails to super smooth high speed bike way riding with a few mates.
      The gtr v2 is fairly cheap on parts but there are no other battery options, I’m not saying it’s a bad scooter by any means, they’re a lot of fun, but a tuned down Hunter x10 with a 23ah battery would give you far more range and climbing power in a more comfortable manner at the end of the day. Also there is a fairly straight forward way to swap over to hydraulic brakes on the gtr v2 and others but it’s really not worth it at the price point as a set of hydros will set you back about $200+

    Hey Mate, Love your content. I just wanted to ask a question regarding the GTS v1 and GTS v2 scooters. I know that the v2 has a bigger battery, dual motors against single meaning higher wattage, higher speed, quad shocks instead of dual at the front, etc. I'm considering getting just the v1 as I don't need the higher speed, 35km/h on the v1 would be plenty for what I need. My trips will also be pretty short, max 10km. Just wondering if there are any design changes that would improve on the v2 against the v1. I would be happy with the specs of the v1, however just want to make sure there are no known issues that have been improved on the v2 that would be worth spending the extra 300-400 bucks. Appreciate any feedback. Cheers. (p.s. I will definitely use your code when purchasing one in the next few weeks.)

      The main difference between the v1 and v2 is climbing capability. If you have any hills in your area you may encounter, go to the GTS v2 and just use dual motor in those situations. Otherwise, the v1 will be fine for most flat land adventures especially if you're not looking for a huge amount of speed.
      The increase in capacity is honestly worth the extra spend, it takes longer for the scooter to slow down as it goes flat and from what I have seen, most people that do get a GTS v1, wind up with a v2 not long after because they realise that hills slow down the GTS v1 a fair bit.
      If you're a heavier fellow like myself, the v2 has stiffer suspension in the front as well, this can be a bit of a benefit. (The same thing the GTR v2 has).
      Thanks again for your comment and the kind words!

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety +1

      The main differences are that the v2 has two motors, more torque and a larger capacity battery. It also has dual shocks on the front much like the GTR v2 and is a little higher off the ground.
      The GTS v2 is a little more than I would suggest for "a first ride", however you'll quickly find yourself getting used to the serious torque these things put out! If the idea of power scares you at all, go for the GTS, if you want to climb hills all day, get a V2!
      PS. 1600watts, 48v 20ah is the power platform for The GTSv2, whereas is baby brother only has a max 800watts its a little lower to the ground but should also be 48v now, give BikeScooterCity a call, they'll help fit you to a scooter that's just right for you!
      If you need to know anything else, dont hesitate to ask :) There is more videos coming soon and I'll do a comparison against my GTS once a new tyre shows up for it.

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety +2

      The GTR v2 runs tubeless tires and tends to get less flats long term. But in my opinion the GTS is a better build.
      However, it depends more on what you want to use your scooter for. The gtr platform is designed for off-road use and the tires are louder on road and will wear down faster, whereas the GTS platform is designed more for on road use. Both have plenty of power.
      At the end of the day it’s a personal choice, for me, I prefer the GTS v2 for Cairns as it has indicators for while I’m on the shoulder of the road or even pathways to let people know where I’m going. If you want the most power you want the GTR v2 (it has recently had its power issues sorted out), but if you want the more comfortable on road ride go for the GTS v2 :)

      The build quality is fairly decent, I find that the GTS v2 seems to be the best built out of them all, mind you my X1 has done over 500km with no services needed. (solid tyres and low power), same goes for the GT I have here.
      I've had a pin in the folding mech die on me but it seemed more like an assembly defect (the thread was stripped), but once I got the replacement bolt from BSC I haven't had any other issues with my GTS v2. Given that the folding doesn't happen on the steering pole I find these to be more favorable over a mantis for the price, but if you want more torque and a better battery the mantis all day while you ignore the price difference.
      TL;DR I've done over 600km on my GTS v2 in the short time I've had it and It has not let me down once, Its been a real pleasure to ride and maintain.
      Their assembly line in Brisbane could do with a bit more of a closer eye for their QC, but they are working on it and improving as they go. Even if there was an issue, BSC's warranties cover everything for longer than any other brand, even Zero, so you're going to be looked after either way.

      The GTS v2 literally shits all over the wide wheel Pro, if you ask me, you’ll love it in comparison. The ride will be so much smoother, only thing you’ll really miss is the mantis fork on the front that the wide wheel has. But the tyres will make up for more than the difference in ride comfort.

    I was just thinking what they should actually do with the GTS v2 is change a few things because of the torque of it it so therefore your legs don't go numb maybe changing the bearings to a different type of bearing might help that or possibly maybe putting a thicker layer of rubber on the deck that is mounted to it so therefore the the power doesn't transfer through the deck which may result in people's legs not going numb during long journeys on the scooter

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety

      None of those things would help at all, the only thing that would help is to reduce the torque using either a ramped throttle output or just being easier on the throttle yourself.
      I ride hard, that's what happens man.
      If you where to reduce the resistance by using better bearings the motors would only spin more freely (increasing torque).
      And adding padding will only make the ride smoother (like suspension, just really not that affective).
      I mean, you could also just ride it in single motor mode if you don't want to have power at your feet, but that would be a bit of a waste wouldn't it? The whole idea is to have that torque available to use, the moment you limit it, is the moment the abilities of the scooter become limited.

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety

      @@ryanwalter757 you can't absorb torque, its translated directly to the body due to the way energy gets transferred.
      Softer suspension would lead to more travel on takeoff moving you around more, but doing nothing for reducing the strain on your body.
      TL;DR if you want an easier ride, run in single motor or run a less powerful scooter.
      Also, the stance does take some getting used to, but is not much of an issue after riding regularly for a few weeks, it's just because it's a new feeling, I barely notice the Torque on mine these days because I ride nearly every day :)
      Also, thickness of the frame is fine as it is, any less and you'd be looking at structural integrity issues. Let's put it this way, the only way to reduce the load on the body is to reduce the torque in the first place, even something with a more plush suspension like a Kaabo Mantis or Zero 10x suffer the same deal. Torque will always stress the body, same thing happens with High powered vehicles, its not like a Commodore with a tricked out v8 turbo would shove you into the seat any less with softer suspension for example, in fact it would do more to increase grip and thus increase the "shove" you feel on takeoff.
      What you're asking for is to feel less strain for the same power, the only real way to do that would be to put a seat on it and sit on your bum or just ride in single motor mode.
      Again, TL;DR just ride slower, faster speeds and more power will put more strain on you regardless of the ride comfort. When riding at 25km/h I don't have any issues at all, It's only when I'm riding full speed for a lengthy period of time that you should feel the strain.

      I agree with ht e front fork Modifications though, they'd be quite nice to have on the front end.
      There's a bit of material in the way of the rear tyre being made larger, but you can still put a wider motor in there, it's not all about the tread, there are many other options out there that will actually fit in there that are offroad too btw.
      I dont know about all that crap with tyres needing to be warmed up and all that, you're really not going fast enough for that to be really be considered. the only cases that it would really matter is in the wet really and you shouldn't ride in the wet anyways. Well at least not as hard as I would on the daily.
      My tips are, lean forward when accelerating and stand like you're riding a longboard downhill, feet spread as far as they can heel and toes at the indicators is probably the best description.
      Hang your ass over the back wheel as far as you can reach and keep your knees bent when braking hard, it'll increase traction and stop you from leaning on the bars, use your feet to hold you onto the scooter, not the bars.
      Never lean or put your body weight on the handlebars, all torque is to be translated through your feet, if you're getting ripped off the scooter and the front wheels keeps getting lifted up practice with it in mode 1 or 2 instead of going flat out until you're not getting thrown around anymore then step it up as you get more comfortable.
      Regen Brakes take a second or two to kick in, so it gives you time to adjust your stance just a bit, make sure you're ready for it because it can be a bit jerky at first.
      Get some gloves, some pads and a fullface helmet for riding especially with it unlocked, crashing at full speed is a death sentence wearing a bicycle helmet.
      Keep to the road rules, dont go cutting off traffic and stop at lights, be aware that drivers arent necessarily looking for you on the road, it's on you to be diligent and aware of what's going on around you to stay safe. Do go lurching out into someone's driveway while they're backing out, the car will win.
      If you're going downhill, lean further back when braking, dont try and go full tilt on your first ride downhill, keep it tame and get used to the steering. The moment your feet are balanced is when your steering is going to be most stable too. Faster = Twitchier steering.
      Hope that all helps man.

      For my weight, unrestricted top speed is around 48km/h @ 100kg, you'll get 50km/h under 80kg.
      Top speed is at full voltage only, as voltage drops so does speed.

    Looks like a good deal $1400 GTS over $2400 Mantis?

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety

      Mantis is more comfortable ride with the suspension, battery is larger and higher voltage so higher top speed, but the GTS v2 is more than enough for someone looking to save a large chunk like that, the price does make a difference and it also depends more on which Mantis exactly.

    • @vincenthughes5795
      @vincenthughes5795 Před 3 lety

      I was actually looking at Mantis 8 base model, which has very similar spec to this GTS v2. The only thing a bit worried about is QC and build quality. Are they actually designed and manufactured in Australia?

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety +1

      @@vincenthughes5795 QC is the same as Kaabo really, theyre not too bad at all and BSC is always willing to replace anything broken in shipping.
      Any scooter you find will be imported from China, there's no one making hub motors in Australia, let alone the rest of the components, everything comes form a factory in Shenzhen and gets assembled over here. I believe it was a guy over in Korea that designed the body's originally. However BSC did choose the components inside to use for these scooters.
      Build quality is better than expected, haven't had any real issues with mine yet, the folding mechanism is decent on these scooters, I prefer this over the Mantis one, steering assemblies shouldn't fold at all in my opinion. All in all its been a great little unit, I've done well over 400km on mine and it's still going hard.

      @@JamiePineappleWyatt thanks man, so much detailed useful info!
      Agree, probably it's silly to expect it to be fully manufactured here. It just looks like a mix of familiar components that we've seen many time before - suspension, stem, controller etc. I guess it's just how it's done nowadays.

    • @JamiePineappleWyatt
      @JamiePineappleWyatt  Před 3 lety

      @@vincenthughes5795 The way it’s done is the same way the old Nanrobot scooters done it (the GTR platform is built on that same platform) and I prefer it that way, just prefer the suspension of newer scooters like the mantis and Zeros as its far more “plush”.
      Also the thing you’re calling controller is actually a “display and throttle” the controller is inside the scooter and is called an “esc”, electric speed controller ;)
      Yeah that display is really nice and you’d actually be surprised to know that it’s actually slightly different to most, it’s much nicer looking than the ones you’ll find on a Zero for sure, they do lack a lot of the programming of the Zero’s though. (Ignoring the 750c special edition display Zero did recently)
      There is a bit of a misconception about that when people start out learning all the individual parts usually.
      All good, it’s my pleasure and I’m glad I could be helpful :)
