  • Guam, an island in the northern Pacific, is just 48km long and has a population of about 170,000. So why is it so important to America’s strategy to defend Taiwan from a potential Chinese invasion?
    00:00 - Where is Guam?
00:13 - Why is it so important?
01:00 - What makes it vulnerable?

Don't forget that America isn't defending the area alone. They're allied with Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, and many others. There are bases all over latter two, and Taiwan has been preparing for invasion since the 50's. The story is much more complex, and the American position much more secure than just "guam vs China"

I think Okinawa and mainland Japan are going to be more important than Guam as far as US military bases are considered. They’re lots closer and are going to get lots more attention from China. Having said that I hope we don’t go to war and can just F’in get along. We have more than enough wars as is.

However, they(Japanese)have the war allergy which is composed of many elements like tragedy of Hiroshima,Nagasaki and other urban bombing. Of course , the article 9 of their constitution makes their identity. So, if the international politics request Japan to protect Twain, their actions will be delay.

@@hikakingames9594 Not talking about the Japanese government in this case. There are more US military bases in Japan/Okinawa than any other country outside of the US. What the US does with their military forces in Japan isn’t hindered by the Japanese government.

The advantage of Guam as US military base is having no restrictions in hosting different types of military and naval assets since it is their sovereign territory. Most of the time, when US stations sensitive rockets, anti-rockets, and long-range missiles in South Korea and Japan, they are met with oppositions from locals and from China.

Served in Guam, yeah we were pretty annoyed when north korea shot IBM towards Guam for show. It killed the Japanese tourism but for some reason saw an increase in South Korean tourism lol.
Anyways yes we’re a stepping block for the pacific fleet mainly to move around for the Navy. Interesting if there will be a bigger air force presence

I was stationed in South Korea. The South Koreans are very acquainted with being vulnerable to a number of war acts including a land invasion. They are no more less safe on Guam than they are in Seoul. I don't know why Japanese are worried, they are almost definitely going to get attacked at the same time Guam gets attacked.

Guam is the perfect place to take on the roll that Pearl Harbor did in WW2.
According to a Gallup Poll taken after the attack on Pearl Harbor, 97% of Americans approved of declaring war.
Less than 25% were in favor to enter the war (WW2) before the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
Public support for entering a war is always enforced using this tactic.
A great tactic to prevent or mitigate public resistance for war participation is to finance the war through borrowing money instead of finance it through taxes.

Asia has not witnessed a major war in the last 40 years, a boon of peace that sadly cant be said to have been enjoyed by the rest of the world....
From 1945 to the 1970s.....most of the wars in asia were somehow initiated or engineered by US......
US is the greatest harbinger of death and destruction not just in Asia in the 50s,60s and 70s but in south america and africa, and the middle east during the 70s,90s and 00s.....with half the countries in middle east tragically destroyed by US wars....from iraq to Afghanistan syria libya yemen lebanon not to mention all the wars involving her proxy israel....
    Americas modus operandi has been
If war were to break out in Asia again though i seriously doubt it this time ...China will be the greatest bulwark and defense barrier of the region or continent.....u can pretend to pit japan and south korea and whatnot
