What a selfless son sacrificing his life for his mother but as a mother you should never allow your child to take the hit for you and blow his life away, sad story 😢

There have been other cases very similar. Some involved kids much younger. Some had a sympathetic jury or DA. Had Jim Tan and his mom been upfront and had the mom not waited 4 days to call 9-11, he may have gotten off lightly. Jim was arrested two years later and convicted on a gun charge related to the incident. He got 20 years in prison.

It’s obvious Charlie’s mom didn’t want to be bothered with filing for divorce or a restraining order. She probably didn’t want to risk her comfortable economic status. For all we know, she could have been manipulating her son into wanting to defend her at any cost. When she should have taken legal action to get out of that marriage. It’s so obvious she wanted her husband dead and recruited her son to carry it out or cover for her.
Well, Charlie Tan was sentenced to 20 yrs on weapons charges. He admitted to killing his father. On Feb. 4, 2015 Tan wrote that his mother indicated the “next time” his father would kill her. “I knew that in killing my father I would be throwing away my future, but I wasn’t thinking of that after the February 4 call" "They [attorneys] advised me not to admit that I shot my father. They were the legal experts, and so I accepted that strategy, even though I knew what I had done was wrong.” The mother is selfish and destroyed this young man's life. There are things you don't involve kids in, and this is one of them. She had the police and the domestic hotline for this.

If the mom did it, then she clearly doesn’t give a f*** about her child. Ruined his life instead of taking the blame for her actions and making sure her child can live his life. The father was likely abusive and instead of leaving, she killled the guy and got her son involved. CPS is completely useless.
They said she “wasn’t strong enough to shoot the gun” if that’s the case she hired someone to kill him and letting the son take the rap for it. It’s truly sad. I’d go to jail for killing him especially if he was abusive. Honestly I’d take the rap for my daughter so she could live her life if it was a 1 time offense I knew she’d never do again so that she could live her life I’ve lived mine I’m 56
Its wrong for parents to live in an abusive relationship. It affects the children mentally. Whoever is abused in a relationship should leave or fight for her/his rights. Stop staying in an abusive relationship for the sake of children. They suffer the most mentally
easy to say, hard to do.... if everyone was that strong, then there would be no abuse in this world. but yes I agree, parents have to muster their strength and leave somehow
This happens all the time! Every time a woman is being abused, instead of her having the GD balls to act, nip it in the bud, or PhfruQk'n leave, she'll play poor, weak, defenseless in order to get help.
Clicked on the video thinking I was gonna hate on the son for murdering his dad for prob a stupid or nonsensical reason but I’m actually totally on his side! He was prob witness to the abuse since his early childhood and was finally fed up
We don’t know enough. The mother was obviously manipulative and selfish. The father was the victim. There was no proof she was a victim and was selfish enough to avoid accountability.
@@ryansantos6785exactly, why do you think she never followed through with a restraining order? She didn’t want a thorough investigation. She was building a case by calling police to her house. I agree completely since I've lived it. My mother also pulled me into her world involving a 14 year old boy and depending way too much on him. SHE was the adult. It was HER relationship and hers alone - SHE needed to put on her big girl underwear and deal with it. The son undoubtedly felt an immense pressure, (albeit undue), to have to protect his mother. She probably didn't make a conscious effort to NOT involve her son. Hell, she called him at school complaining about the abuse. That's a tremendous mindfuck to put on a kid. Women who birth children in abusive households are beyond despicable The children don't choose it,the women do and all because they like the money, not the man
As a child psychologist, I can say straight out that the social workers and police officers at the time were absolutely out of line. They not only ruined that child's life, they ruined her father's life. Everyone involved in that case should 100% be sued. Every social worker, every police officer, every person involve from Health and Human Services. They were incompetent and they absolutely were NOT acting in good faith. They were looking for a quick and easy scape goat.
Every single word you said on your statements is genuinely correct Unfortunately all the officials involved in this case are above the law that's why they haven't been held accountable for their incompetence
They didn’t protect the child. All they did was ruin a child into thinking her father is a horrible person. And they stole 2 kids from the father. The least they could have done was to apologize. 😢
How…? wtf?! I didn’t get that vibe at all. She sounded genuinely scared, and it’s already proven fact she was continuously violently abused by her husband during their entire relationship. Multiple witnesses seeing injuries and bruises. Cops came to house 12x in one year. Yet she fakes a call only to not want to get her husband arrested hence why he wasn’t? Makes no sense. Someone who fakes DV do so with the goal of getting their significant other in trouble. You prob just think it’s fake bc she has a heavy Asian accent. Ignorant af
Hate to type this, but how can we be so sure that she was being abused? What if she planned this for a long time, appeared in front of neighbors with bandage while the husband was at work, over time, and then called 911 now and then to report abuse when there was none....and then finally kill the guy? It would look exactly like she was acting in self defense. A woman could totally get away with it pretty easily I think!
@@SueP-jg9vx What you suggest would be extremely rare. The son was stable and a successful student. Can't everyone see that the wife was afraid to press charges for fear of her life? It was just a matter of time that he would have killed her. Whether she killed him or the son killed him was eliminating the threat.
You know the mum could have gotten a lesser punishment since shes got years of evidence of domestic violence, but to throw the son under the bus is simply beyond words.
We need to create more laws to protect women. The Abused have to deal with a psychopath at home and the police can do nothing??? We need to allow automatic orders of protection.
The bada$s judge did a Mic drop and went against everyone and threw out his murder charge as his last action as judge. The house has been resold I think but the cops found their blood under the floorboards. In another case, a daughter hired some dudes or her boyfriend did to come into the house in a home invasion and kill her parents. She got caught because the dad lived and there were too many discrepancies. The dad overheard her talking to the home Invaders. That story has been told many times on true crime. Sure was actually on her 20's and could have just left home. She had been lying about being in college all along. In another case, the kid murdered his parents blood was everywhere. Me just wanted the money. And the cops took him back in the home for a walk through, because supposedly it was another home invasion and they suspected him from day one. In another case the girl wanted to date this guy that the parents didn't approve of so she and her boyfriend or just her alone, I can't remember the details, killed the parents. Several other cases, I can't recall the details on. All of these cases have been featured on True Crime shows.

Growing up under a physically abusive father is a nightmare. One day my mother ran into my room to escape from my dad and he turned on me because I stood in between them. At 18, I had had it with his utterly disruptive, destructive behavior. (He had resigned a good corporate job one decade earlier, turned jobless and was in the throes of all sorts of midlife crises.) I was mad, it had been a tough, tough day, and I hit back viciously. He moved out after a week and when months later I travelled to the farm (to where he had moved) to attend my grandad's funeral, he called me aside and apologetic, said he'd told no one about the fight and added that he realized I was a man now. He's 82 now, grand old man, ailing a bit. Presently at the family home in Nairobi. (The village is too tough for him staying there alone) I see him often.
I wish I could have fought back against my step-father. The mom did it but because she’s been abused by that husband, the son took the fall and feel it’s justified that he is dead
In many asian cultures it is the duty of the oldest son to protect everyone else in the family once the father is a deadbeat or dead.
If the mom did it, then she clearly doesn’t give a f*** about her child. Ruined his life instead of taking the blame for her actions and making sure her child can live his life. The father was likely abusive and instead of leaving, she killled the guy and got her son involved.
CPS is completely useless.
i completely agree. why didn’t she just say she did it in self defense?
They said she “wasn’t strong enough to shoot the gun” if that’s the case she hired someone to kill him and letting the son take the rap for it. It’s truly sad. I’d go to jail for killing him especially if he was abusive. Honestly I’d take the rap for my daughter so she could live her life if it was a 1 time offense I knew she’d never do again so that she could live her life I’ve lived mine I’m 56

Totally, I hate when people say that they’re staying because of kids. They’re not doing any favourite to their children. On the contrary.

I think the mother was too afraid to kill him, that’s why the son stepped up. Heartbreaking. She should’ve left instead of her son losing his life to prison.😢
Ew sandra doorley has she resigned yet
She’s really after this kid, isn’t she? What does this say about her life?
@deekang6244
Exactly. Hate this kind of self-righteous woman. She must be happy ruining his life. He’s charged with 20 years, which is almost a manslaughter charge! She just had to show she’s so upright and capable of bringing charges 🙄🙄. Super gross.
@ABC-ed8cg you seen her bodycam video where she disobeys everything the police officer says after refusing to pull over and speeding home?
How could a mother allow her son to be charged and go through that? Is she going to be charged? That poor young man. Obviously “Dad” was not some innocent nice guy. I don’t care when she did it, it’s still self defense after years of beatings. Of COURSE she waited till he was unsuspecting.
There is no proof of beatings. That phone call was fake.
Most loving mums would confess to doing it ,if it meant son going free
How you upload this on fathers day lmao
What’s a father?
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂
The man was already dead before Charlie came home, what’s up with that?
So they let that psycho wife beater go after the cops came out for a domestic dispute. If it was me not being rich I would I've been hauled off to jail immediately I am so sick and tired of all of these double standards
That is nit a mother... hats a manipulative narcissist... who used her son to get away from her abusive partner and then ruined her own sons life...
If you were abused and did something ATLEAST be courageous to take stand of what you did....
That woman is blot in name of mother...
A great kid but lost between both parents... he should have lawfully emancipated from the parent for the best....
She early manipulated him...
great stuff, she got the property and wealth all for herself, with her husband and son gone now.
This was a dateline episode. Sad story for a nice young man. He was found not guilty but was arrested some time later for violating going to Canada or something like that.
In these last days children have been raising their hands against their parents...
If the mom did do it, then I lost all sympathy for her bc she involved her son. Also, she could have had a fighting chance at self defense. Maybe. Idk. But regardless you don’t involve your kids so I hope she’s telling the truth. But it doesn’t feel like she did tell the truth in my opinion.
even if the son did it she should have taken the blame. why call your son and not 911?!?! and why not file the pfa the cops gave you months ago?
Poor Charlie! All American boy who couldn't escape the tentacles of his sicko family traditions. And damn the prosecutors, who couldn't just move on. Nope, when they didn't get a "win" in the murder trial, they hauled him in on gun charges, and now he's serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison. How is that in anyone's best interest?
Correct, the prosecutor just wanted to blame someone to show that they’re so capable of bringing charges. 20 years is akin to a manslaughter charge! There’s not enough evidence to show Charlie pulled the trigger. It’s a tragedy all around. His life is over cos of his mother’s messy relationship with his father. 😭
Please if you have abusive husband, leave him immediately.
The end of the day you are the victim and the same time you are the suspect.
She hadn't the capability to fire thats why she shot his hand cuz she missed at first .when he was down she finished him
Its so abnormal for anyone outside of USofA that you can just come in the shop and walk out with a shot gun or assault rifle. But for you its totally normal. What a paradise of a country.
It doesn’t work like that though. Only when you watch misleading videos
It is pretty easy to get a gun here in the US, but the majority of gun deaths are sui cides (56% in 2022).
@@IuItim and how does it work. Explain please. I live in a country where I dont need to be afraid that someone will brake in my home and murder me for no reason. Not me or non of my family ever owned a gun. And my country, Montenegro, has seen wars in recent decades, your country never had a war on their territory except civil war 150 years ago but for some reason you all need to have guns collection so you can feel "safe".
How could the mother let her son take the fall? He’s so young with bright future, why would you let your child lose his life for you. So sad for this young man.
Ahh he went to Cornell, I see why they described him as an “Ivy League son”. If it was Harvard, they would’ve name dropped it 😂
Growing up under a physically abusive father is a nightmare.
He had arms like tree trunks and was built like a weight lifter because of the hard physical labor he did for years in his father's businesses growing up. I was tall and big too, but I didn't have his muscles. Even when he was 60 I doubt I could have beaten him.
He never would have taken me aside and realized I was a man now. He kept grudges forever, like a small child. He was crazy.

What a shame.. his mother should never have his son involved in this gruesome crime. He's just covering up the crime committed by his mother! How could his mom ruin his future!
how disturbing body stiffens and then it becomes limber again after 24 hrs.... how sad
The mother is the killer for sure
SOUNDS LIKE BOTH WERE INVOLVED BUT I HAVE A FEELING IT S THE MOM
Cruel and selfish mother should've never got her son involved.
is the mom out living her best life now while her son sits behind bars?
For sure! Maybe even with an insurance payout or inheritance
Don't really care who killed him, another woman beater gone. For it to go down like this it must of been years of abuse. Im just glad neither got charged. When A kid feels he needs to step in to protect his mum it becomes very sad.
I thought that DA looked familiar!
it's funny how everyone here is claiming the mother was "Abused"...how do you know the husband wasn't mentally abused by the wife? WOmen often twist words to make themselves the victim and are very manipulated. It's easy to see that the wife manipulated the son to believe only her side of the store.
