Amazing version. Year is 2022. This came out 50 years ago. Yes folks, 50 years ago. The original singer, Ian Gillan, on stage, turning 77 on 19 th August. What a great performance from Ian, he gave it all he´s got left of his voice. Which is plenty, as most of us are six feet under at his age and certainly not performing live on stage. Oh, how I love this band.

Simon McBride - two words - Gary Moore!! The influence is apparent and that’s a wonderful thing, Gary was and is the best guitarist and I miss him dreadfully. So carry on Simon, good to hear you. Also Deep Purple, the best band ever, lots of Gary connections too with Don Airey and Ian Paice who both played with him. Ian Gillan what a voice even after all these years.

There's no subsitute for Blackmore. By far. And his solo on this very song is pure classic, one of his best, albeit non-flashy. But that's for those who know.
@@hogopogo7616 yes...and Ritchie didnt like it at all..he insisted and the track was never included in the Machine Head album...he has never played it live either...Come on..he has made a lot of mistakes..and some years ago wanted just one show with them...
My favourite version of this song is on Live at the Olympia 96 with Steve’s amazing solos. But man, Simon is great as well. Wow

This is purple of old. Gillan singing his non screaming songs still has the voice. Simon McBride - brilliant. Don Airey brilliant as always, and Paice/Glover - need I say more. Close your eyes, and this is back to the early 1970s.
even if he could still hit the high notes which is physical impossible at this age..I think a 77 year old man screaming on stage is...weird..Some years ago he said that screaming songs are young mans songs...I agree with Ian...

I saw them do this back in the early 90's during the Purpendicular tour at Brixton Academy and it was fantastic, this version 30 years on is still mind blowing, keep going guys

Whilst Ian is struggling so much with his voice these days this one still shines enough with the character of his voice. What a great solo by Simon BUT, wouldn’t it be great to hear Blackmore’s original solo too.

@@janisliekne2688 The only way to arrive at an opinion that Gillan struggles with his voice, is to listen to it. Blackmore was then, yet the vast majority of their set on this tour, are from the Blackmore era. His influence over DP lives on.
@@gerd5479 my point about hearing Blackmore’s solo to this song is it is a well crafted, composed and structured piece. Most of the alternative solos are magnificently played but are typical improvisations many guitarists would play. You often know it’s Blackmore not just for the way he plays but the composition itself.
@@beawsbiz Agreed. Blackmore had a very distinctive style and indeed tone. My go to Purple album is 'made in Japan' and this for me was Purple at their very best. No overdubs, or alteration to the recording.
