Also, this concert is called Bastau, which means Beginning, his first, bombastic professional concert, after he got China-famous. It was offered to him by the government, as a reward for fostering good relationship between Kazakhstan and China, and it was part of EXPO 2017, which coincidentally was happening at the same time, so the stars aligned for Dimash, he said for a long time that he's the one who got all his dreams come true. That's part of why he's tearing up, it was a very emotional night.

The instrument is the dombra and is considered the national instrument of Kazakhstan. My daughter’s friend is from Kazakhstan and shared with me a video of her playing dombra when she was little. I love Daididau. It is such a delicate and beautiful piece...I believe the other instrument you reference is the Zhetygen, which is traditionally between 7 and 15 strings. I find Daididau has a strangely Celtic feeling to it (not completely - obvious differences - but it is the slight melancholy and lilt that lends itself to comparison. ) The other instrument that figures heavily is the kobyz (spelling?). I play cello and I desperately want to try this instrument so much!

This is from Dimash's concert in 2017. He has had many world tour concerts so far, but this IS still the best concert from him in my opinion, just considered the amount of works this guy did in 2017. He flew and lived on plane like everyday for the Singer show in China 2017, he flew back and forth from China and his country like 2 times/day , I heard in interview of his mom " he has 60 plus flights within 30 days" for The Singer show in China. Then he did many projects for the events, also this big concert .
All happened in 2017, you can see here he looks skinny and slim due to the extreme schedule that year! In this concert, he had so many iconic performances till this day, he danced, flew with cable on waist, yet still belting insanely with most songs and keep songs at the high elite quality performances. I mean the consistence and ENGERY to navigate for the 2 plus hour long concert.

I first saw this performance almost three years ago and it remains my very favorite. It's from his Bastau concert, which is excellent, and his first big (40,000) solo concert after his huge success in China. By the time of this concert he not only had the stress associated with preparing for this (which his country sponsored because they were so proud of him) but all the traveling he had done in between episodes on I Am Singer, and had lost weight. You can certainly see it in his chiseled face and when he's wearing regular clothes (like during Daybreak, which can't be missed!). His pants literally hung on him and his belt looked like it was on the first hole!

That is the Dombra. It is a 2 stringed instrument that is in almost every household of Kazakhstan. It is 'the heart' of Dimash's country. His Dad, Kanat, is an expert player. This song is about a couple who were very much in love and devoted to each other. The man was arrested and put in prison (wrongfully for treason) and he was told that his love no longer loved him. He wrote this poem, Daididau, about his heartache. Later he got out of prison and was reunited with his love and found that he had been lied to about her. He was imprisoned again and died. This song is known throughout Kazakhstan and is very important culturally to the Kazakhs and Dimash. Did you notice that Dimash motioned at the beginning of the song that his in ear monitors were not working. Dimash went on to sing so beautifully and passionately without them!! This performance was from his incredible Bastau concert that he put on soon after 'The Singer' show. Thank you for reacting to Dimash.

There is a you tuber that has video of the USA concert at Barclays Center in New York. That concert sold out in a blink of an eye.

Thank you for the reaction to the Kazakh song "Daididau". At the concert, which was called "Bastau" (Astana, June 27, 2017) at the very beginning of a hundred beautiful Kazakh youths play on the dombra music called "Adai". Dombra is the Kazakh National People's Instrument. Dombra has only two strings, but you can play any melody on it. Dimash also played virtuoso on the dombra, and then passed the instrument to a beautiful girl and began to sing the song. /// The song "Dаididau" has long been considered popular. But the poems have an author - Kazakh poet Magzhan Jumabayev. He's got a tragic fate. He was repressed, sentenced to 23 years as a political prisoner and shot in 1938. From prison, he wrote a letter to his wife in the form of poems, where he compared her beauty with the "moon". The word "daididau" means nothing in Kazakh. It is believed that this word The Poet affectionately called his wife. /// Dimash loves this song and sings it at all his solo concerts. This song, like the song "S.O.S." is his calling card. I especial ly liked his performance in New York on December 10, 2019. There, spectators from all over the world sang this song together with Dimash in Kazakh.
    DAIDIDAU
I pick a pen and wrote a letter to you my beloved
Your complexion is beautiful as the full moon
Every time I think of you, my lovely,
My lifeless heart awakens with passion
    Oh, Daididau,
My lifeless heart awakens with passion
Are you determined to leave me?
Our blissful past is but a distant memory
Remember our solemn vow to each other
To whom shall I divulge my sorrow O
    h, Daididau,
To whom shall I divulge my sorrow
    (Cr. Gloria Wu's YT channel)

The dombra has 2 strings, it's a Kazakh lute. I did see him play it with one string when one broke. The show must go on, of course. Daididau was the name of the poet's wife. The poet was arrested in the 30s as a dissident and sent off to prison (Stalin's regime, I think). As if that weren't horrendous enough, guards "mistakenly" (yeh, right) told him that his wife had left him. He wrote the poem (lyrics to this song) in his cell. There was a later a briefly happy time. He was released, got to be with his wife again, but was arrested a second time and put to death. This song has great emotional significance to Dimash as his way to share Kazakh culture with the world. He always asks the audience to sing along on the chorus, and amazingly Chinese, Americans, and other foreign-speaking fans have memorized the Kazakh lyrics, at least enough to sing "Daididau" anyway.

That outfit (and all of the other musicians on stage) was made at request, in a record time by a famous tailor in Kazakhstan for one of his performances at the China's TV contest.... There's a video with this history of this traditional Kasakh vest, and all the significant meanings of some particular decorations of this coat... Even the fabric was brought at speed flight, specially from the UAE for it.... (made with a wonderful high tech pattern of white leather and textile fiber, embroidered by hand with real gold and silver traditional motifs).
Yes, you can also find the video of all this 1st solo and amazing BASTAU Concert... he was exhausted between flights for rehearsals and his compromised work at China at the same time... His emotional feelings and tears are all here in this song with so much meaning for him and his country. He was very young when he also worked between studies, singing in party's, weddings and christenings events (something very hard to do, due to the kind of public much more interested in eat and drink them listen a true performer), performed in numerous regional and international singing contests, and learned with the best, in a hard way, like this journey...
Never stoped his training, perfection in singing and studying, with some of the most charismatic respectful teachers and his evolution was so high in time as in quality at his age...
He's got the skill's as a long term professional singer of 50yo... He's an olympic voice athlete. that's why he's a professional, workaholic competent, respected and admired by musicians, professors, his pairs and fans all over the world... Even the famous Igor Krutoy returned from his retirement, back to work, and compose specially for Dimash, once he "found him" at his casual amazing performance "Sinful passion" at the Slavic Bazaar!!!
Once a known vocal coach and professor said «...I must forget all I've learned and teach to other singer's till now. There's no limits for what a men's or woman's voice can do, if well trained. Because, every time Dimash opens his mouth we learn a new technique and a tip of "how to sing" lesson from him...»

The instrument is a Dombra (Russian spelling) and Dombyra (Kazakh spelling) - a traditional, two-string, long-necked lute of the Kazakhs of Central Asia that has historical and cultural significance and classified as ‘a sacred heritage’ to the Kazakh people. Dimash has been playing it since forever and I understand that just about every Kazakh child learns to play it. Dimash includes it it many of his performances. Keep up the great reactions. 🇦🇺
