Quark could have run instead of defending Grilka's house. He chose to stay, without promise of profit, and offered himself for execution for a cause that wasn't even his. Grilka genuinely both likes and respects Quark. He pretty much gave her the best gift anyone could give a Klingon; Saving her House and her honor. And let's not forget that Grilka was actually willing to stay married to Quark afterwards! She didn't suggest to get divorced, he did. Honestly, that would have been an epic storyline. Like an actual House of Quark, with a legitemate position in Klingon culture. It would have made the Quark family very (or, even more) powerful and influential in multiple cultures. Ron becomes Grand Nagus, Quark being the leader of a Klingon House and Nog ofcourse becoming legendary in Starfleet. Would have been amazing if they were somehow the glue that made all these cultures work together against the Dominion or something. And ofcourse not to mention that they were all in close contact with big players in the Dominion war. (Cisco, Odo, Kira, Garak, Damar, Worf, Dukat, etc)
Quark would have seen a quick death, since - as the Grelka & Quark episode explained: The winner of a honourable fight would inherit the house AND the wive. And if he stayed the head of the house, a lot of klingons would try to kill him. And also Gowron would have let him killed when Gowron attacked Cardassia and broke the peace with the Federation. Also, since Quark is a Ferengi, he would gain power and fight his fights with money, which is dishonorable too.
@@ulliulli I see your point, but at the same time, that applies to every powerful Klingon; Consider this; - Klingon leaders do not have to fight anyone that poses a challenge, as there has to be sufficient reason for a challenge to be made. We know only direct subordinates may challenge their leader. - Klingon leaders do not have to fight each other in person by default, they can use their armies and decline personal combat. - Klingon leaders nearly always have bodyguards, and said bodyguards are usually very loyal to the head of their house. Considering the actions of Quark when it came to 'winning' against D'Gor, facing an enemy twice your size without weapon while taunting him in the Grand Hall is even in Klingon standards pretty badass. It would certainly have given him quite some respect had he remained the leader of the House. - Quark may be the effective leader of the house of Quark, but doesn't have to do anything with it. He can delegate it to his wife, for example. And I don't see Quark as being too interested in gaining more power and lands on the Klingon homeworld so I doubt he'd risk it.
@@ym5891 Nope... he thought he could cheat himself into claiming the house and acted without honor (did you even see the episode?). any OTHER klingon would start a fight... and since Quark is no honorable klingon, most of his warriors would most likely leave him or switch sides.
DS9 was great with creating brain crashes for their characters. Worf when he finds out that the glorious Grilka is Quark's ex-wife. When Dukat finds out that Kira is carrying O'Brian's child. The look on Gowron's face when he sees the fake Martok revealed. The look on EVERYONE's face when Sisko goes hulk. I mean, seriously!! 3:21 That reunion though. Notice the playful tease of violence before not just pulling, but YANKING into a full body contact hug, and even when they lean away for eye contact they keep their hips pressed together. For a couple that wanted out of a Marriage there's still a lot of connection there.
@Anne Isopod Yeah, both war and peace is good for business. War for the money to be made selling weapons, Peace for the money selling and especially transporting food, medicines, etc.
Quark forgot to grunt.. "War, huh (good god y'all) what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!!" It would have been hilarious if she would have said, "You can say that again."
Jadzia has the last laugh in this episode, she sure got on top of the situation in the end. Her and Worf Best Star Trek couple ever. I just love how the polar opposite and yet the same the same time. Grillka and Quark is the odd pairing that makes me laugh, The house of quark is hilarious as an episode, It was nice to show that there is still feelings there between the two regardless of cultural differences/ideologies. 03:53 the Klingon standing between Grilka and Quark is Tumek, Grilka's trusted advisor, played by Joseph Ruskin. I unabashedly ship Quilka, this scene just seals the deal. I hope somewhere in the EU books, Quark and her remarried, ruled the House of Quark, and raised a bunch of savage and cute little corporate raiders.
"War! What's it good for? Absolutely nothing." Is a line from a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong for the Motown label in 1969. Whitfield first produced the song - an obvious anti-Vietnam War statement - with The Temptations as the original vocalists. You can find it here on youtube. I laughed when I heard the line used here.
Worf is the galaxy's premier nerd of Klingon culture. He knows how everything is supposed to be done according to books, but almost none of his knowledge actually play out in real world scenarios unless they are bound completely by procedure. It's one of the reasons he does well when dealing with the council until they start breaking the rules.
Grilka is a smart woman and hounerebul one and yes she married him to save herself and house but saw the hounerebul ect in Quark,Sirella is also one as well to mention she chose Martok dispite his status ect so seems some klingon women are good at spotting the great in men
Dang, i could feel the chemistry.... beautiful acting! While i do remember their reasons to not stay married, I cant help but sometimes wonder if they could make it work...
There was a significant minority in the fandom when DS9 was coming out theorizing that Keiko, Miles, and Nerys were going to become a menage-a-trois. Honestly would not have been surprised if they had lmao
If DS9 had been 20 years later, then absolutely they would have gone there. Star Trek has always been ahead of the sexual revolution curve by a lot, and after a few false starts it looks like poly is the next domino to fall.
If their was justice in the world, we would have heard this line during DS9's run "Hi I'm Keiko, this is my husband Miles, his boyfriend Julian, his fiancée Garak, and my girlfriend Kira."
3:03 poor Dax's expression. She wishes so badly she could impart 7 lifetimes of wisdom on the poor guy. Curzon could probably tell him "plenty like that in the sea, friend."
When Quark said he was a man of many surprises he REALLY meant it. Who would have thought he is a fan of anicent Earth counterculture music such as Soul. Edwin Starr (singer), Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong (song writers) would all be flattered to be remembered centuries after their deaths
Something to think about: Quark got a compliment of courage from Gowran (probably misspelled name) and Nog got it from Martok. The house of Keldar (Quark's father) had some pretty badass Ferengi in the eyes of the Klingons.

And in turn he learned more about himself.
The funniest part to me is that when Nana Visitor was pregnant, she was actually carrying Alexander Siddig's child....
Yup, they were an item. The DS9 cast loved inside jokes.
WHA- WHA- WHAT
@@Yaapo they have a son together
Yeah that fact makes Kira's line "this is all your fault" while holding her belly even more funny
@@plonkersbro true I remember
@@ulliulli I see your point, but at the same time, that applies to every powerful Klingon;
Consider this;
- Klingon leaders do not have to fight anyone that poses a challenge, as there has to be sufficient reason for a challenge to be made.
@@ym5891 A powerful Klingon is a mighty warrior with loyal allies and friends. A single Feregi within the klingon society? A free kill.
@@ulliulli That's what D'Gor thought, too.
@@ym5891 Nope... he thought he could cheat himself into claiming the house and acted without honor (did you even see the episode?). any OTHER klingon would start a fight... and since Quark is no honorable klingon, most of his warriors would most likely leave him or switch sides.
"she´s OK"
DS9 was great with creating brain crashes for their characters. Worf when he finds out that the glorious Grilka is Quark's ex-wife. When Dukat finds out that Kira is carrying O'Brian's child. The look on Gowron's face when he sees the fake Martok revealed. The look on EVERYONE's face when Sisko goes hulk. I mean, seriously!! I loved DS9 for their constant 'whaaaaaaaaaa?!' reactions from the various characters.
I love it when Gawron's eyes pop out. I javelin to watch the show alone, or I would have to peel somebody off the ceiling. 😱

Oh well.
...
_I mean,_ good!
“It’s quite boring, really; but to them it’s a matter of life and death.”
Ain’t that the truth?
Reminds me of of long ago when I had fighting neighbors in my apartment building. We’d all listen in the hall until the make up part started
3:21 That reunion though. Notice the playful tease of violence before not just pulling, but YANKING into a full body contact hug, and even when they lean away for eye contact they keep their hips pressed together. For a couple that wanted out of a Marriage there's still a lot of connection there.
Worf: Gotta invite Quark to the nearest airlock.
I love the way she pretend to draw sword then take his tray and hug him.
I am Quark, slayer of Klingons, once ruler and saviour of one of the great Klingon houses.
Worf: Fuck!
Don't forget the 34th rule of acquisition. War is good for business.
@Anne Isopod Yeah, both war and peace is good for business. War for the money to be made selling weapons, Peace for the money selling and especially transporting food, medicines, etc.
First you sell the weapons to destroy the houses with then you sell the materials to rebuild them
Don't forget Rule 76: Every once in a while, declare peace. It confuses the hell out of your enemies.
War, if you ask me. What is it good for? If you ask me, absolutely nothing!
Wait a minute, isn’t the 34 rule of acquisition Peace is good for business?
Quark forgot to grunt..
"War, huh (good god y'all) what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!!"
It would have been hilarious if she would have said, "You can say that again."
I love how Quark says that even though he doesn't believe it one bit.

@@JN-hs5xl Yes, but also rule #35 of acquisition: Peace is good for business.
I just love the fight at the where Worf shows off as he uses quark as a mannequin 😂🖤🖤🖤😂
One of my favourite episodes of the show period is when Dax and Worf get married.
That dress Jadzia was wearing was fucking awesome too.
I think she mentioned in one of the special features for season six that she nearly tripped in the boots because of the high platforms, if memory serves, it’s been awhile.
"On top of the situation..." If that wasn't innuendo, it should have been. 😏
@@danieldickson8591 oh no it definitely was a innuendo/double entendre, I’m a less than walking one too (I have cerebral palsy). 😜
I must be the only one in the fandom that disliked Dax and Worf.
Worf seems a little shocked that Grilka and Quark were once married in a marriage of convenience.
Well he didn't know that it was a marriage of convenience at the time.
You know that feeling when you have a weird friend or just a fellow you know, he`s kind of ugly, weak, not really rich and makes stupid jokes and then you see him with a hot woman you`d also want, whereas you`re alone and you can`t accept it in your thoughts, that`s what I read in Worf`s face lol
To quote Garak, "that's the thing about love, nobody really understands."
"I have never seen such a woman"
Worf forgetting Keh'leyr, Again.
Keh'leyr is forgettable.
@@Maniac742 I would disagree, but Keh'leyr was a half-breed and her own unique person. Grilka is pure Klingon in looks, dress, and attitude. And judging by Worf's reaction, a splendid example of Klingon femininity.
He forgot Jadzia in the last episode so it's not too surprising that he would forget Keh'leyr.
@@melissacothrine6216 Low blow.
But yes
Worf just looking at Grillka and Quark like, "What kind of backwards hell did I just step into?"
"It appears that either the holosuites are malfunctioning, or someone has made a dire mistake with the timeline. Either way, I recommend immediate action."
Worf's tone and look as he says "She's a friend of the Ferengi!" was golden.
Godsdamnit I love this freaking episode so much
Not only was Grilka and Quark's meeting adorable as hell, but Worf and Dax spying was also cute
The look on Worf's face was the second best he had on DS9. Here he goes from aroused, to sad, to dejected to maybe a bit angry. All in a few moments. My favorite look by Worf was in "Ascension" when Quark tells him that Keiko is pregnant again.
03:53 the Klingon standing between Grilka and Quark is Tumek, Grilka's trusted advisor, played by Joseph Ruskin. He also played the role of Galt, the Thrall Instructor from the TOS episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion". Ruskin has the distinction of being in four of the five live action Star Trek series; TOS, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise.

3:48 And right there you can see Warf's brain starting to short-circuit
I swear I saw steam coming off Worfs head.
"War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing" Edward Starr song lyric from the 1960s
Grilka is a smart woman and hounerebul one and yes she married him to save herself and house but saw the hounerebul ect in Quark,Sirella is also one as well to mention she chose Martok dispite his status ect so seems some klingon women are good at spotting the great in men

What's ironic is that Worf still ends up with a friend of the ferangi
Robert Calvert explained why she is so drawn to Quark...
"What a Lady looks for in her lover is...

The rage and confusion in Worf is hilarious XD
How have I not seen this episode.... these two are great together.
Out of all the ST series, if I had to pick one to live in, it’d be DS9.
That’d be a helluva place to make a living.
Something tells me several fist sized holes in the walls suddenly appeared all over the station after Worf heard she was Quark's ex
Quark quoting a 60s song!
You know I've seen that scene dozens or times and it never dawned on me until now that Quark's last line is referencing the Edwin Starr song "War"
That exchange between worf and jadzia hits different now that I’m on season 7.
I love seeing worf be jealous of quark.
"War - what is it good for!? [If you ask me], absolutely nothing." How ironic that Quark should paraphrase lyrics from a song from the 1970s.
Quark quoting old school Motown lyrics. That's what makes him the best bartender in any galaxy.
I agree with Worf...wow!!
Then as well when he was like, “say Whaaaaaa-???”

Creased over laughing at the way Worf said "She's a friend of the Ferengi..."
The way everyone looked down on the Ferengi proved there was still a bit of prejudice in the Federation.
Drinking all that prune juice, no wondeer Worf is so irritable all the time he's probably tired of shitting his pants ever time he breathes hard.

Neither K’Ehleyr or Grilka were better looking than Ba’el. Worf should have took her with him.
Grilka is quite beautiful.
3:03 poor Dax's expression. She wishes so badly she could impart 7 lifetimes of wisdom on the poor guy. Curzon could probably tell him "plenty like that in the sea, friend."
I love the way, Worf says Ferengi
Worf when he first saw Grilka "DAMN, GIRL!"
I like how Grilka and Quark remained good friends
When Quark said he was a man of many surprises he REALLY meant it. Who would have thought he is a fan of anicent Earth counterculture music such as Soul. Edwin Starr (singer), Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong (song writers) would all be flattered to be remembered centuries after their deaths
When Worf realizes that Quark has some r'izz for a petaQ.

A great scene from a great show :)
"war! What it is good for? If you ask me, absolutely nothing!"
Unless you sell weapons, then you get you own moon...
Something to think about: Quark got a compliment of courage from Gowran (probably misspelled name) and Nog got it from Martok. The house of Keldar (Quark's father) had some pretty badass Ferengi in the eyes of the Klingons.
OMG! I almost forgot about the Easter Egg at the end when Quark quotes the first two lines of the song War (The Temptations song) from 1969-70 sung by Edwin Starr.
I've never seen this show but the clips sure are amusing
I know it wouldn’t make any sense but I wanted them to eventually fall in love. It just seemed like they had great chemistry but it makes more sense for them to be great friends.
That bìt @the end .. priceless

WAR by Edwin Starr
"Say it again!"
I love to know a klingon woman but i don't feel like spending everyday in the emergency room...lol.
He had that "daughters dating a black guy" look
Quark missed an opportunity: If he elaborates on what prune juice is and gives her some to taste, he’d have solved all her financial woes by providing exclusive knowledge of a product that would be wildly popular amongst Klingons!
The happiness in the face of Worf is priceless. 😊
