521. Testing Liquitex Fluid Paint In A Big Bloom Blowout! SO PRETTY!

- Hi all! I'll admit I wasn't feeling all that inspired in this video, but I did test out the newish Liquitex line of fluid acrylics. Both colors (turquoise blue and aqua green) performed well and dried nicely, so I might pick up a few more colors. This is a large bloom on an 18x24 Ampersand cradled board, and I had no issues with it despite not priming it first. I will resin this one since the substrate is so nice and put it in a black floater frame. Let me know what you think! THE RECIPE:
House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: PPG MultiPro in Satin from Home Depot, or Color To Go Extra White in Satin from any Sherwin Williams store.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator color:
You’ll need: Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); Infinity Semi-Gloss Base C Untinted (Lowe's) and JoSonja Gloss Varnish OR Minwax Polyacrylic Gloss. I use a quart measuring cup (HD + get a lid). Mix up 12 oz. of the Behr 8300; 6 oz. of the Infinity, and 4 oz of varnish or the water-based polyacrylic to make 22 ounces of pouring medium. Stir well. NOTE: If your Behr is thin, you may not need the varnish so add a little at a time to get your desired consistency.
Use the colors and brands of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:
Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium; mix well. Recommend a Covid mask to mix.
For any brand fluid or high flow acrylics: I put 2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.
For tube paint (medium or heavy body paint), I added an 1/2 ounce of paint (1/2 teaspoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) OR water, and stir well.
Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Lamp Black, 2.5 -1 ratio Australian Floetrol to paint.

Lovely, as always! The paintings next to it looked interesting too. And I totally understand about life upsetting the painting thing. I've painted my whole life, but I've gone through yuck times in my life whereby I've stopped painting, but always eventually I get to a stage where I NEED TO PAINT! And I'm scared to because I think I would be able to make it work anymore. I have to really force myself to get back into it, and you know what, once I'm completely immersed in it, it is always there! I can still do it ! But yeah it is hard when your emotions are all over the place. It is much easier when you feel happy & calm. Pity life can't always be like that. Wishing you all the best 🫠

I think it is definitely a keeper I went and looked because I knew I had some of that fluid liquitex and I have the iridescent white, light blue violet and the turquoise. Haven't tried them yet and they are opaque except for the are doesn't white the right. Hope things get better for you on the homefront, I'm kind of going through the same issues just got back from Missouri because of my uncle was not doing well at all.❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😮😮😮

I’m sorry to hear you go through hard times, we’re ever is, just think it will past nothing is forever. I know for experience is not easy to hear that went you going through hard times, but went we change the chip is more easy. I found peace and purpose in painting and days start getting better. Beautiful, yes. Boring, not at all! FYI Sherwin Williams has Color to Go on sale! In my area it's $6.77 a quart. For some reason the last couple of containers of Extra White was full of bubbles and it wasn't shaken.
Pearly White is really nice. It's kind of like an unbleached titanium.

Sorry to hear that you're having a rough time and I hope that whatever is going on resolves and/or improves for you soon.
I find that there are 2 ways out of that kind of 'meh' mindset (I have suffered from severe depression and anxiety since I was a teen so do have those cycles of low mood) - one is to do what you are doing, something that you know well and is almost a guarantee of a successful piece because you can do them with your eyes closed (although on the rare occasion that they do go wrong this can make those low moods worse 😅). The other one is to try something completely different and new. Whether that is the 'old faithful' technique but you use a random generator to choose your colours for you, or try a palette you would never normally choose (neons or monochrome reds or brown and beige - anything that is new and slightly terrifying to you) or whether it's a whole new art style - maybe use thick gel medium to thicken your paints instead of making them fluid paints and create a piece with a lot of texture? Or invent some random game/technique and see what you get from it - use a massive canvas, stand over the other side of the room, pour some fluid acrylics in a dustpan and yeet it at the canvas? Go crazy with it. I love this kind of thing because it always gives me a dozen other ideas to try and it usually doesn't matter if the painting that results from it is crap because it was so much fun playing around and being silly. I was rewatching some of Molly's (Artistry) old videos last week for some technique tips for Dutch pours and I came across a video she did at Easter one year. She got a set of plastic eggs that split in half (like the egg you get a kinder egg toy inside) and in each one she put a small amount of paint, a different colour in each egg. She put some "good" colours as well as some "bad" colours like brown and black, then mixed all of the eggs up in the container so that she didn't know which colours were in which eggs. In the video itself she put a white base coat down and then chose 6 or 7 of the eggs at random, pouring the colours on top of each other in a small line across the canvas. She ended up really lucky and getting beautiful spring/Easter type colours and then decided to do one last egg which turned out to be a big line of black paint 😂😂 The painting wasn't the best but she had so much fun doing it and I watched the whole thing again with a big grin on my face. 😊

@@WaterfallAcrylics one or the other usually helps me get out of a creative funk. I'm disabled and sometimes in too much pain to do any painting. Over the years I've managed to find a few different hobbies of varying activeness levels so when I can't paint, I may draw or colour, I might be able to sculpt or make some jewellery etc. It's still really hard when there's a part of you that wants to create but your mood and situation makes you feel so 'meh'.
Hoping it passes for you soon and I hope you will film yourself trying something new, I'd love to watch that video! 😂

Karen when you’re going through things ANY creative effort uses your right brain (creative side) it gives your left brain a rest (left is the business brain). The times where you least want to be creative are the times your brain needs you to be creative. They don’t have to be perfect or “YT” worthy. Maybe push your creativity by doing a different technique you can get excited about. Love you and know you will get through this phase.
