“Beauty & The Beat” is something very different than your ordinary rock show, let alone your ordinary classic concert. Its music played in an unorthodox manner, it’s the performance of a wide range of classical pieces and rock songs together with an orchestra and choir. It strikes you with awe.
Originally planned as a one-time event - the first performance was already held in 2011, the show was too successful with fans and critics to simply never happen again. In spring 2013, Tarja Turunen and drummer Mike Terrana again toured throughout the world, from Poland to Russia to Mexico.
The music of “Beauty & The Beat” ranges from immortal classic pieces by Bach, Strauss and Mozart to Rossini, but doesn’t neglect pure rock music like songs from Led Zeppelin, Queen as well as Tarja’s own pieces. All combined with orchestra and choir with more than 100 musicians on stage, an enormous sound, energetic drums and Tarja’s angelic voice.
Tarja and Mike complement each other musically. Whereas Mike bangs his drums with rock attitude, Tarja shines with her crystal clear voice and incredible stage presence; all lulled with the warm, full sound of an orchestra. - Hudba
Tarja just slips this song around her shoulders like an old, comfortable cloak....she wraps it up and lets the song transport her....this is her element, metal or not....
People who compare Tarja unfavorably to Floor fail to realize that they're comparing a 25-ish year old girl from Kitee to an experienced heavy metal frontwoman with 20+ years of experience. Tarja has just kept elvolving since her Nightwish days and this performance is absolutely stellar.
Yes, they should listen to Floor's early years and then try comparing them. Tarja herself has mentioned several times how hard the early years were on her voice due to no ear pieces , having to "oversing" the instruments. The constant comparison of a 20+ years old with less than great gear with a 30+ years old with the best digital hardware available isn't doing either artist justice. But why be happy for what is when you can put friends against each other and complain about what didn't happen 🤔 .....
Just hear the home recording she did for Crewish with Dark Chest song, looks even effortless and she did it in just one morning, as she said. I watched last Tarja's gig at Wacken this year and the sound is amazing, no compares with her regular small venir she do regulary. And I understood why is so good Nightwish 2013 Wacken DVD.
This is 100% what I have been thinking for a long time!! Could not agree more.
@@shooterchef The microphones have improved also. Tarja used to have a trouble with the mics because they had to be too close to pick anything up (feedback control) and her voice was best formed a distance from her mouth.
They are totally different styles and cannot be compared. Neither one is 'better'.
Swanheart has never sounded better imo, stunning performance
For me it can't touch the version from "From Wishes to Eternity" .. just the ending where Tarja sings together with Emppus guitar, its just so magical 😃🤘🏼

A masterpiece from the golden times of Nightwish, a time that will never return. I remember until today when I heard this song for the first time ..., I cried. I cried to hear so much beauty, poetry, melody, worthy of echoing in eternity. We all have our preferences. I respect this. But I can't help saying that this song can only be sung by Tarja Turunen and no one else. The truth is that Nightwish's music with Tarja was something out of the ordinary; it was extraordinarily magical. Today this band lacks something. And we know what it is. Congratulations to Tarja and Terrana for making me cry again. A masterpiece. No more comments.

I think you've said it best. I said too that Nightwish has lost its magic.. the magic was Tarja. They are both different singers so can't really compare them directly I guess
@@Muscarial Yeah I won't deny that. Although some classical singers sound better with age, as much as I adore Tarja she sounded better in her earlier days. From Wishes to Eternity was her prime.

Thank you Tarja for having Swanheart immortalized with an orchestra. You elevate this song to high heavens. Goosebumps, tears, fast heart rate and bliss, all caused while listening to this. Incomparable. The golden era of Nightwish is with you. All their best songs are with you and all the passion, your grace, your huge voice, made them special. Made them stand out from the crowd.
You own all of those songs, you own them all because no one can sing them like you.

I love the original versions, the live performances of this song by Nightwish, but this version is simply.... Sorry, I can't find the right words to describe these feelings that run through my body.

She is definately a better singer than 2000. This is more operatic performance, she goes more round mouth.
Love both performances, they are somewhat different, so, hard to say which is better.

Unbelievable that such beautiful music came from a metal head! Tuomas is indeed a genius. Beautiful singing Tarja in this setting, much better for you. I love ALL music including metal and opera but this is awesome. Respect from Northern Ireland.

@@larryzigler6812 Nah. I never truly believed Tuomas hated Tarja. It was always about his ego being bruised. They had impossible tour schedules, and Tarja got burned out. He didn't like that, because he wanted to perform again and again, not seeing that she needed rest. That was the core of the problems between them. And of course her husband butted into it, because he was the one living with her, so naturally he tried to fix it.
And I am fairly certain Tarja never hated Tuomas either. Not happy about being fired (even though she had said publicly that she wanted a solo career a year prior), but I think it went over fast.
Today, they would do fans a good one by reuniting for a reunion show somewhere. That would have been fun, but I am sure Tuomas' ego is still too bruised for it.

My dear Tarja. Absolutely you are the best voice of nightwish ever. I'm really surprised you got the rights to singing that beautiful song in a public event. Congratulations. You still have that beautiful and charming spirit.
A song can always be covered live without paying royalties, and she also was instrumental to bringing this song to life in the first place. Just like Nightwish plays covers when they tour, Tarja can do the same. But if this was to be put on an official record, like Nightwish did with Over the Hills and Far Away, then it would be different.
@@michaelvedal1907 they recorded this concert, so I'm sure they had to pay for Tuomas/Nightwish for using this song. If it was only a concert, then it's a bit different, but I think even then the venue owner has to pay.

The best version ever
FINALLY this pearl is on an official channel. Only took seven years. A bit more pompous instrumentals than in the 2000 "From Wishes to Eternity" concert, and that old performance still feels nostalgic to me. Yeah she was better singer 2013 than in 2000. And hearing the 2019 Christmas church concert tour, she has improved still, her operatic vocals were divine... never heard so amazing singing, looking forward great performances to come! Yeah I have The Beauty & the Beat blu-ray.

It is a gorgeous song like he cannot compose anymore without her. I think, she is mature enough to separate the work from the artist and be able to still sing those songs, after all, she gave them life.

Best performance
I'm kind of divided with that. I love when Tarja goes operatic vocals, that's when she is in her best game. But still... that old 2000 Tampere concert, "Ftom Wishes to Eternity," even if it is less operatic than this one, I kind of gravitate towards to that. It felt warmer. I felt the emotion more in that performance. Maybe it was the smaller stage, early career, less pompous instruments, the atmosphere of the gig... it just felt warmer, more from the heart.

@@LigeiaNoire YES, THANK YOU! I'm annoyed by the fact that Nightwish sometimes sounds like some generic band with female vocals now...there are some great songs, of course, but it's not like it used to be.
@@andymath89 Not at all, no symphonic and barely any metal anymore, all fine by me, just not into the disney, pseudo folk mixture they have been doing. We will always have their golden era to listen to though.
Tuomas has always liked folky stuff - as do I. But somehow the folky songs he had in Nightwish albums were never good to me. But Auri, that's some good folk music.
Haven't listened the latest album, and am not gonna, so no comments on that.
@@Aurinkohirvi I did listen to the entire cd and did not like anything besides tribal.. it all goes nowhere. A whole bunch of disjointed ideas and too fast paced vocals... it is not that great. Good folk, i would listen to Ataraxia or Dead can dance or even Trobar de Morte.
