  • An amazing video, watching massive high tech machinery create a neck radius on a fretboard. Some may say it's over engineered - I say it's cool as FK! Hope you enjoy these videos!

    Fascinating to watch how the whole process is automated.

    Yup that's how I have always done it!

    First time I have ever seen a machine used to radius a fretboard and cut the fret slots. I have seen machines carve the neck and bodies, but after that, the sanding, setting the radius, even cutting the slots (although I have seen many circular saws all set at the right distance to cut the slots in one pass) - literally every thing once the CNC has done the rough shaping done by hand but it seems with devices like this, its getting closer and closer to having machine made instruments with minimal human involvement.
    Apart from the loss of jobs and skilled workers, I have no issue with playing instruments made by machine. It still will have the little nuances from natural wood materials but also be extremely consistent so you know that every part is perfectly made.

    Love this! Not too much of a traditionalist, so I like how Framus uses automation! At least you know the machine isn’t rushing your axe on a Friday afternoon to get an early start to the weekend, nor does it come in on Monday morning from a wild weekend hangover! : ).

    Very nice bit of robotics!

    That's better than using my hands. I hate sanding. Like lots. lol

    I love these videos, but I do have to say the one thing that's really off to me is the music you chose for the sped up bits... I'm assuming you just picked royalty free music, but it just doesn't feel like Tone King music at all to me. Not only because I expect a more rock n roll style from your channel, but my brain just kind of figures "I'm watching a thing about guitars, so this should be playing some guitar-driven music".
    Just my 2 cents, of course. Love this series and your channel TTK!

    I like to play guitar made with passion and hands, may sound old but there are things that should be kept or does anyone like to hear music written by algorythem? Said that, it is no doubt that their engeneering knwoledge is amazing

    Great video! Fretboard radius is a bit strange; for playability everyone wants a flat radius. Why don't leave it straight then?

  • @BlaineLudeman
    @BlaineLudeman Před 5 lety

    it's like they're doing it the hard way for a given task because someone is going to have to sand some of that down after right? using the actual distance of the radius in a space that you could park a truck in .. idk man .. that's just my OCD on steroids lol

    Cool video...however it doesn't help me with figuring out and shaping the radius by hand. Can't afford an elaborate cnc machine yet.

      @thetonekingofficial  Před 5 lety +1

      Done soon is a good question, haha. I got so much footage, and we didn't even hit paint while I was there. They'll be sending me some follow-up footage. I don't know how much that is ... so, you're guess is as good as mine. I could always ask, but that will ruin the mystery of this :-)

    I'm guessing this is the reason for Framus ridiculous pricing is to pay for all their fancy machinery ...i know this comment will turn off alot of people but yes they are nice guitars but lets get real ...

    I dont like to see somenthing like that, they are building guitars like build a car. Beside the enginneer no body need to understand what is happening, and may the enginneer dont play guitars to understand what is good or not.
