We shamo lya ba Mayo is an entertaining song that captures the painful emotion of losing a pillar of the family. In this song, we talk about the emotional struggles that families face during this period and after losing the family's support system, as well as what happens to the dependents who relied completely on that person.
It's as if the center gives out and the family starts to fall apart. The family laments the good life they once led and how they were forced to begin a new life of self-reliance.
This song illustrates what occurs in our traditional beliefs of Abaushi, Abena Kabende, and Abena Ngumbo culture, where it is always suspected that such kind of death is normally caused by witchcraft rather than a natural occurrence because of probably the state of wealthy living connected to such individuals, which leads to many accusations of a person who caused the death. Ultimately, and normally, a witch doctor is consulted to ascertain the cause of death. The song confronts us with the idea that we should move on from the past.
