He really wears his emotions on his sleeve. He can go from pure amusement with Charlie's comments to being ready to strangle Veruca in her seat when they talk about the whipped cream.
A few years ago they adapted "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" into a musical in response to the success of the Matilda Broadway musical, and the way they approached this version was making creativity and imagination its central theme. Charlie's poverty makes him resourceful and he cultivates his imagination so he can make "something out of nothing," and in his interactions with Willy Wonka, he can understand, respect, and appreciate the Candyman's strange logic. Whereas with the parents and bratty kids. . . they don't get it.
Wonka was obviously delighted that Charlie instantly got that a cow being whipped is for whipped cream. Charlie can think creatively and with imagination, unlike the other children.
What I really liked about this scene is Willy sat next to Charlie of all the guests during the boat ride, and even gave Charlie and Grandpa Joe chocolate from the river, which he previously didn't want anyone to touch or eat. This pretty much shows Willy liked Charlie the most of the guests and knew he was probably lonely and good hearted. He was even concerned over Charlie's health, saying how he looked starved to death
I love how Wonka acts like a fool most of the time but every now and then you see it in his eyes that he knows exactly what's going on and what's about to happen. He's the smartest man in the room and no one even know it!
I love how Charlie is genuinely interested in knowing more about Willie Wonka. He's also fascinated by how the factory works and understands the simple, yet very imaginative creations like the whipped cream. 🐄🍦
Actually the way Wonka acts in the beginning of the tour makes me think that he hoped all kids will be like that. He clearly gets surprised when he sees that they doesn't understand him and don't see things his way.
@@scotthayes4135 think it's a candy/sweet-based or chocolate-based hair product, or is it chocolate filled with a cream that both tastes delicious and somehow affects your hair after you eat it?

I love the fact that all the oompa loompas on the boat start laughing at the group, knowing exactly what is going to happen to all of them in the next couple rooms, and Wonka just playing it off as "it must be from all those dagum cocoa beans" is brilliant
I believe in the book, this scene is also happened where the Oompa Loompas in the boat immediately started laughing at the group. I believe the excuse Wonka gave was different though, something along the lines of "They think that tall people are funny." Makes sense when you remember the first time we see Oompa Loompas in the book, they were busy laughing at the kids across the river.
I'd say that psychologically Wonka is still a child. And this scene alone is a goldmine for quotes and hints that further imply this. He responds awkwardly to Mrs Beauregarde question as arguably any average young boy would if a woman made a reply that implied love. Moreover when Veruca says that Wonka told him he already said his speech about the chocolate he passively mocks the children for their height, something a child would do. Further times are when he gets over excited about showing the group the Inventing Room as a child would.
Gemathest Gemdone Considering how he never really had a childhood himself, I can understand why he would. I kinda feel sorry for Wonka. He might seem crazy and a lot out there, but this Wonka (Depp) had a pretty hard childhood. He hates parents and is jealous of happy and loving families. He wishes he had that growing up.
Because he was so fuck up as a child. Now that he's not restricted so much he's trying to relive his childhood and make it full of candy and oompalumpas!
I love how Willy gives Charlie the chocolate, he rarely gets to have something sweet such as chocolate and he never got to try anything because the other kids took it from him
I mean this version of Wonka is emotionally stunted. Even after adulthood, he is still the same child that was abandoned all those years ago. Trauma like that don't leave...
2:47 I love the combination of Depp’s line “There’s no knowing where they’re going”, the lights coming on to reveal a big drop as if it’s a theme park ride, and the legendary score from Danny Elfman that makes you feel like you’re going on an adventure through a massive, seemingly infinite complex of the strangest and most wondrous sights in the world
Tbh if I was a hermit chocolate making genius who had been living with only Oompah Loompahs for 15 years, I’d get weirded out by that too. But as a person who lives in the real world, I gotta say I wouldn’t mind Violet’s mom hitting on me. She’s hot lol.
Rad D.R. Same with the original. On the original boat scene, most of the people were either scared or sick during the ride. Charlie and Grandpa Joe were excited in both movies. My guess is because neither Charlie really had much of a life. It was school and home and nothing more. The original he had a job can't remember about this version. But he had no friends or anything. And seemed like it was okay by him for the most part.
@@kathleenc8 Tim Burton tried to stick to the book as much as possible, Charlie never had a job in the book and because Grandpa Joe told him stories of the factory, it made him all the more excited to see what it was like even though he would never get to, let's not forget that even in the book, Willy Wonka did have some postive and child-ish vibes coming from him so Charlie was all the more excited. If that makes sense.
The echoey “switch on the lights” after that sinister ominous “they can’t, there’s no knowing where they’re going” part always gets me and gives me chills to this day. Better than the original with the vibe.
Since the beginning of the tour, you can see that Charlie's the only kid he took a liking to and got along with. Whereas the interactions with the other kids include shade, sarcasm and disrespect, there was mutual respect between Wonka and Charlie throughout the tour
When Violet's mom flirted with Wonka before boarding the boat, it was understandable that he was creeped out and didn't have interest in her whatsoever. This made me wonder if he'd ever crush on any woman who he'd think is attractive to him, especially since he has lived alone with the Oompa Loompas for years.
The children are all acting unrealistic during the boat ride. It is tragically clear that they are all simply looking in a blue screen with a fan blowing in their faces. All the children including Charlie would be screaming their heads off while going down that tunnel.
Really like the expressions on the characters in this scene. The children looks scared, while Charlie in particular looks excited, as he’s probably never felt this kind of thrill in his life, same can be said for Grandpa Joe, and Wonka is just having the time of his life.
Something. I Can't Remember. There actually can be. If the people moved over a bit. Notice how there was space for someone next to the lady flirting with Wonka?
Something. I Can't Remember. And if you remember the scene when Augustus (sp?) disappears, the Oompa Loompas sing that song. Veruca (or maybe it was Violet) asks how they can know ahead of time what song to sing. And Wonka says that they can make it up in the spot. Maybe that's what they did for this scene as well.
This scene is amazing. The haunting music, the exhilarating atmosphere, it really makes you feel the epic size of this factory. This s the one scene I really like better than the 1971 movie. The boat tunnel scene in that version was just terrifying to say the least.
Honestly the boat tunnel was intended to be truly the and unsettling. Wonka was never a sane or benevolent man and I really loved the mostly accurate recreation of the book showing Wonka as a crazy, child endangering sociopath. While I love this one as well it tells the story of a different Wonka and a different history which is also good. I feel that the first one was just to tell the story of the book while this one was to update it and tell the story of Wonka and why he turned out the way he did.
I'm amazed at the boat's ability to go down a hundred meter slide and a section of river rapids sideways and not get a single drop of chocolate on its passengers.
it amazes me how the majority of the oompa loompas in this scene are animated or animatronics. So much hard work in this movie and it's very underrated.
Well if you look there 1:15 you can see there's enough room on the seats for a few more people… Unless of course each seat is supposed to be only for one kid and their parent.
During the boat ride scene, I notice that the camera tend to focus only on Charlie and Violet, whenever the light is a shade of blue it's on Violet. Foreshadowing?
Well water and liquid chocolate aren't the same, water is splashy and is not sticky while, liquified chocolate is not splashy and is sticky like slime, Have you seen slimes splash? No.
1971: A terrifying ride with scary images and Willy Wonka screaming like a mad man 2005: a river ride that looks extremely fun to go on and everyone doesn’t seem afraid and won’t scar children
Much better than the original, the boat in this film looks like the boat in the book and the chocolate river looks like real chocolate, unlike the 1971’s chocolate river. 👏🙌
I’ll never forget watching this on the big screen in 2005! I was just a kid but still remember being in awe over the effects, music score, and cinematography! You felt as if you were riding along with them. I was only 10-years-old and remember how EXCITED I was for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Great times ❤
Gazelle Samyueru IKR! Especially for a man with a childlike mind, that HAS to feel weird. Frig, look at Mr Tevee's and Mr Salt's faces. Wonka wasnt the only uncomfortable dude in the group XD
this is much better than the older version 1. it actually makes sense and is consistent with the tour of the factory 2. it was very smart humour 3. it actually feels like a thrilling boat ride
I remember watching this scene when this came out in theaters I actually felt like I was riding in the boat too I couldn't stop smiling 😁 I miss being a kid but we are children at heart
Lyzk3l That's because he is annoyed. Not just at her but at all children. Families to be precise, he is jealous of all loving, happy families. Watch the whole movie and you'll understand.
Or how about an attraction of this at the Warner Bros theme park instead? Warner Bros owns the rights to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory after all, so it would make much more sense.
I don’t know about you guys, but I honestly like both the original AND this version at the same time. Also, am I the only one who feels excited for the upcoming new Wonka movie this holiday season?
Agree 100% Elfman's music is amazing, and his best film scores come from Burton's movies. This movie has the best soundtrack by him in my opinion, I love the opening titles theme
Since Deep Roy played all the Oompa Loompas, it must've been really odd watching him sit in the boat and laugh for a few seconds, get up, move over slightly, sit down, and laugh again.
He did the shots, they just duplicated him in during edited and ofc CG'd him because for alot of moments. Edit:And guess any other different shot is also included during editing.
the one who play the drum was the real one the boat to, only the river and the room contiains it are not real and those oompa to they just pupets of him with diffrent size
Like milk. The dwarven community is already angry at Peter dinklage and the new Snow White movie for depriving them of work. Making all the Oompa-Loompas played by one single actor was a big mistake. And as for the boat ride in particular, the children are not acting realistic at all. They would be screaming their heads off with this boat ride. They are clearly just staring at a blue screen with a fan blowing in their faces.
Man, I remember watching this movie as a little kid and not understanding 1:00 and 3:45. It's nice having this good feeling when you finally get it years later.
in 1:00, Scarlett Beauregarde attempted to flirt with Willy Wonka but that backfired much later during the Inventing room scene, and in 3:45, CBT in a nutshell
So you’re telling me, Tim Burton just turned the tunnel scene into a log ride? Remember how creepy it was in the original 1971 film and book? Huge missed opportunity right there.
4:26 the only *scary* part here that gives me 1971 vibes. BEETLE. JUICING. The one thing the musical needs now. Is a "Beetlejuice" vibe number for the boat ride.

“What do you use hair cream for?”
“to lock in moisture”
😂😂
What do you use hair cream for? To touch violets mom so smoothly
Do you think he makes actual hair cream in there, or a cream to put in chocolate or confectionaries so that after you eat it it moisturises your hair?
@@agenttheater5 A mystery indeed.
Man's got his beauty secrets
@@agenttheater5he is developing a candy that makes you grow hair
it amazes me how the majority of the oompa loompas in this scene are animated or animatronics. So much hard work in this movie and it's very underrated.
4:22 Wonka is definitely enjoying the ride lol. You can tell by the way he is smiling
am I the only one who liked this movie?
+Sonic 1215 No, you're not.
Me and my 6 year old nephew liked it
Our Usernames are 1 Letter Appart and No
Oh, OK
I prefer this than the original. 😊
I like how Willy wonka is a savage and he keeps saying “little girl”😂😂😂😂😂!!!!!
You already said that😂😂😂😂
Nobody at all: the sound of wonka’s gloves clutching together 😂😂😂
Everyone: "It's just Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, so you don't need to go as hard this time, Danny."
Danny Elfman: 2:52 🔥🔥🔥
This version is actually much closer to the book.
while that is true, there is still some problems with this movie apparently
Explain to me how this movie is interior to the original?
Yet no adaptation of “Charlie And The Great Glass Elevator.”
@@creativeponyproductions4634 pretty much if there is, tim burton might need to read the book and adapted it into a movie
No way
Am I the only one digging the music when the boat goes down the hill?
It reminds me of the beetle juice cartoon
pikaace nope
If you like that, look for the movie intro, it has the full song
Jose Chu-Jon how often do you have adventures in tunnels
pikaace That and the music at the beginning.
0:47 - 0:51 or because Violet and her mother are dressed almost exactly as the oompa loompas in this scene
The thing that freaks me out a bit is that there were just the right amount of seats for everyone so he knew that one of the kids was going to go
He had already planned everything from the beginning
@@flamesmrk847 Yes, look how Wonka looks at Violet 1:28
@@tarikeld11 Exactly
And the way the Oompa Loompas were laughing at everyone.
Ness and His Friends Will Kill You All you mean Willy Wonka and Violet?
Also the Oompa Loompas are dressed in blue
Violet-Blue
Charlie-Yellow/Orange
Veruca-Pink??
Mike-Red
When you ship Violet and Charlie it becomes
Charlet
Viorlie
@@kreasiarow7253 i just cringed so hard my testicles fell out of my mouth. thanks for that
most unrealistic part of the movie: no one got spashed with chocolate during the ride
Well water and liquid chocolate aren't the same, water is splashy and is not sticky while, liquified chocolate is not splashy and is sticky like slime, Have you seen slimes splash? No.
@@DiorskiePrepossessing true
Yeah and that no one screamed or peed their pants
This part was actually a CG or something (idk the name) . Go watch the behind the scenes video
Sister Spooked You don’t say
2:44-2:49 Violet: How can they see where they're going?
Willy Wonka: They can't. There's no knowing where they're going.
(Favorite line in the scene)
is a reference to the classic movie
@@IAbsoluteSolver But the scene isn't R Rated, thank god.
We live for the references
1971: A terrifying ride with scary images and Willy Wonka screaming like a mad man
2005: a river ride that looks extremely fun to go on and everyone doesn’t seem afraid and won’t scar children
I really wish there was such a chocolate factory😍
Believe me, I wish the same
Theres a candy shop that I go to sometimes that has a chocolate fountain you see when you walk in and on the wall is a framed golden ticket
Creation 123 so...I would like to know the location of that sweet shop
Rat Ravioli There is a place called Candytopia you can check out. Its in Atlanta, Miami, Philadelphia, and I believe Texas.
They have chocolate machines in certain candy stores
0:43 the giggles from cocoa addiction or because THOSE LITTLE DEMONS KNOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN TO THE KIDS AND IT'S PERFORMANCE DAY, BOYS
Much better than the original, the boat in this film looks like the boat in the book and the chocolate river looks like real chocolate, unlike the 1971’s chocolate river. 👏🙌
2:50 I get chills every time, it's an awesome scene!
Well, at least there are no freaky images in this one.
🤣 true
@Willy Wonka It's certainly a beautiful reunion.
Charlie Bucket How’s the family Charlie
How was the ride Charlie? Too rough for you?
@@theliongamer3181 They're doing fine, thanks for asking!
When the tunnel went ↖️⬇️⤴️↕️⬆️↕️↙️⬇️↙️ I felt that
I’ll never forget watching this on the big screen in 2005! I was just a kid but still remember being in awe over the effects, music score, and cinematography! You felt as if you were riding along with them. I was only 10-years-old and remember how EXCITED I was for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! Great times ❤
What a fun ride, especially when combined with the music, it makes it more epic
And less scary
1:03 the best reaction a human could possibly make.
Gazelle Samyueru IKR! Especially for a man with a childlike mind, that HAS to feel weird. Frig, look at Mr Tevee's and Mr Salt's faces. Wonka wasnt the only uncomfortable dude in the group XD
also when veruca says “you already said that” and his finger just slowly curls back up in frustration
Gazelle Samyueru I dont see a human
Everyone notice how he only fed chocolate to Charlie and his grandpa saying that they looked starved to death.
he's spying on them (clever boi)
this is much better than the older version
1. it actually makes sense and is consistent with the tour of the factory
2. it was very smart humour
3. it actually feels like a thrilling boat ride
I remember watching this scene when this came out in theaters I actually felt like I was riding in the boat too I couldn't stop smiling 😁 I miss being a kid but we are children at heart
3:44 Willy has a facial expression of: Im tired of your shit
Lyzk3l wonder how much stress her dad gets everday especialy when she ask for the golden ticket
Lyzk3l
That's because he is annoyed. Not just at her but at all children. Families to be precise, he is jealous of all loving, happy families. Watch the whole movie and you'll understand.
XD omg true
He's low-key savage
Trassl3 Celick lol
I really think this could be turned into a virtual ride at universal
Idk maybe they could dye the water brown 🤷♂️
Oh wait no if it’s a virtual ride they would just set the path ahead of you to look like a chocolate river
Or how about an attraction of this at the Warner Bros theme park instead? Warner Bros owns the rights to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory after all, so it would make much more sense.
@@Legomovie970 Yes actually I think this is better. It will add popularity to the Warner bros theme park and be just an all around fun ride.
Ikr! I thought that too 😂
I love the fact that Willy still act like a kid
I don’t know about you guys, but I honestly like both the original AND this version at the same time. Also, am I the only one who feels excited for the upcoming new Wonka movie this holiday season?
You know why this is the better movie? It has the big three. Tim
Burton directing, Johnny Deep acting and Danny Elfman's music.
Agree 100%
Elfman's music is amazing, and his best film scores come from Burton's movies. This movie has the best soundtrack by him in my opinion, I love the opening titles theme
You couldn't be more right!
Just like Edward Scissorhands
@@39gaythan39 Spiderman
The music in the Tunnel ride was awesome 👌👌
If these sequences don't give you chills then nothing will. 2:51 and 3:57
"There's no knowing where they're going"
Great reference
i love that people are calling this a universal ride.
This is a ride Universal should’ve built
Since Deep Roy played all the Oompa Loompas, it must've been really odd watching him sit in the boat and laugh for a few seconds, get up, move over slightly, sit down, and laugh again.
Meme Dealer Apparently that was the only shot of him that was cgi’d. Everything else was him
He did the shots, they just duplicated him in during edited and ofc CG'd him because for alot of moments.
Edit:And guess any other different shot is also included during editing.
@@artistanthony1007 eh sometimes cgi is needed for cutting costs
the one who play the drum was the real one the boat to, only the river and the room contiains it are not real and those oompa to they just pupets of him with diffrent size
I love how through the entire ride wonkas hat never falls off
That is cool
2:56
See how a blue light briefly goes over Violet? It's foreshadowing her turning into a blueberry.
Yes, I noticed that too and I think you are absolutely right!
And maybe the yellow/golden light on Charlie after that is foreshadowing his win later?
"You don't say ;)"
".-."
Marcus Liu hahahahahahahaha
Ms. Bearegarde is played by Missi Pyle 😊
I know I love her!
@Stewart Watson WAS NOT!!!!
BrilovesKurtHummel Briones her voice sound like Jennifer Tilly
The part where I got chills when they enter the tunnel and the theme song starts to play..
The music's so great
How this is a 2005 film is mind blowing. Visuals are outstanding
By the way, theyre laughing because she’s dressed up like them
I think they are also laughing because they know Violet will be the next to go, and they dressed up like that for a reason.
If i were violet, I'd blush in embarrassment at 1:01
An Oompa Loompa same 😂😂😂👌👌
Lol her crush
Same!
She only flirted with him just get Violets prize everybody knows that! She didn't flirt with him because she wanted him
I think she's beautiful 😊
*Johnny has truly outdone himself! His acting was amazing in this movie!*
God this movie aged so well
This boat ride through the tunnel is SO MUCH better than the 1971 film’s scene
The 1971 was super creepy. That weird song freak me out.
And the chocolate river actually looks like chocolate too 🍫
Because of the lockdown my skin is starting to look like Willy Wonka’s
Avec le confinement ma peau commence à ressembler à celle de Willy Wonka
Cookie Crisp lol

Wait You got Pale in lockdown?
Then why am I still pale before that
(This is a joke)

Omg yeah so true 😭😂
Man, I remember watching this movie as a little kid and not understanding 1:00 and 3:45. It's nice having this good feeling when you finally get it years later.
TalesofTetra same
I’m 16 and still don’t get it😂 what does it mean?
Yea what does 3:45 mean I still don't k ow
Still don’t get 3:45
in 1:00, Scarlett Beauregarde attempted to flirt with Willy Wonka but that backfired much later during the Inventing room scene, and in 3:45, CBT in a nutshell
