As an American citizen who many TODAY dont comprehend that we all are American citizens of the US, she represented about what PUERTORICANS were, was and will be ALWAYS be for generations to come. Miss universe of 1969 was Gloria Diaz of the Philippines. When I watch the 1970 Miss universe contest we had glorious black and white television so we couldn't see all the beautiful costumes or anything. But when my mother and I laid eyes on the gorgeous Marisol Mallory she was our winner from the get-go. We cheered her on all through the show and we were so happy when she won. Thank you for showing her showcasing her road to winning in a nutshell it was fantastic I haven't watched it since 1970!!!

I was a NYC Puerto Rican kid in 1970, when she was crowned Miss Universe. I remember it was between her and Miss USA and how elated my Mom and everybody in our Puerto Rican neighborhood was that night and all the long distance calls to and from Puerto Rico. It’s the night I learned that my Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 heritage would always come 1st.

I remember watching this telecast when I was little living in Santurce, PR. Our neighbors must have all been watching her win because an eruption of cheers burst out as soon as she was called the winner. I also remember her victory parade down Ponce de Leon Ave (I think that stretch is a freeway now) atop her own float, waving as she passed by thousands cheering her on. It was quite the event!

El triunfo de la gran Lucecita Benitez en marzo de 1969. Definitivamente dos triunfos uno detras del otro.
Es el primer recuerdo que tengo de una miss universo al verla en un foto con su corona en la revista, creo que fue la Vanidades, A mis 5 años de edad no me cansaba de ver su foto.
Para mí las más bellas puertorriqueñas son, Marisol, Denisse y Dayanara son auténticas y sencillas ❤️

Un ejemplo es Irma Nydia Vázquez, que representó a Puerto Rico en Miss America 1948; luce muy bonita y natural. Esas cirugías. no engañan a nadie solamente a quien se somete a ellas.

And what is wrong with that? When I got married 20 years ago I wanted to work part-time so that I could work and take care of our future children. Sadly enough economy has been so hard that nowadays both need to work to be able to pay mortgage and other basic needs.
