I'm super scared to start and have no idea where..this might be funny but I don't even know how to create a portfolio 😅 also don't know where to find clients, I watched a lot of videos when they say to go on Twitter but I think they want someone who is more grown up and have experience

hey I needed this video a lot. Thankyou so much for explaining it so nicely and keeping it simplified. I have been learning it all alone and watching this video today made me feel at ease about the demotivations I get along the process.
Anyone younger deciding should I do this, trust me...DO IT especially whilst you are younger. I am now 50, I was supposed to do another year at high school then go to art school but I mucked about and ended up in Storeman job for years along with long standing depression and anxiety...easily my biggest regret is not persuing being a Graphic Artist. It is way easier and obtainable these days so go do it! 👍🏻 People still tell me it's not too late 😕

I appreciate the information and steps you provided. I graduate in May with my graphic design degree and still trying to figure out which route to take. I am getting back in the hang of creating things so my skills don't die. There are so many routes to take and I get lost. I am huge fan of Adobe Creative Cloud. I have been able to use it while I was in school as well as out of school!

I'm really interested in graphic designing, enrolled into a paid course once as well and after that, just left practicing as I got into some family stuff. Now there is SO much information on the internet that its become so difficult to understand, where to start?? Cant even decide own niche! Love your work though and hoping to find some direction!

if you have enough funds then you should definitely go it gives you lots of knowledge
I am planning on going to my community college for associate in graphic design. I was in this debate too. But after speaking with the head of the program and looking at the job listing around my area. I figured I might as well since I got the financial aid.
If you have the funds, or if you can apply for financial aid. At least check your local community college. Check if they have a graphic design course and try to reach out whoever is in charge of it. Don't just email them, either. Speak with them in person as well.

my name is Aklog from Ethiopia I learn graphics by my own self and it was not easy to move forward by your own self I mean I face a lot of things to move each step, for example to bought a laptop for my design It takes for me around 4 month, imagine how much heart breaking is this and then guess what is the laptop is hp, 500GB, 64 operating system, and it was also a huge heart breaking...
any way I am still in fighting to be a graphics designer so this video show me a lot of way and a lot of strategy to move forward so Thanks for your consideration to make this video

Thank you for this video! I have a question though - as a self taught designer, what exactly do you put on your resume to get hired.... Other than listing "proficient in Adobe suite, etc." I have a degree in something completely different than design (in education), so how do I get employers to look at me without formal education in design? I am worried that even before getting to the portfolio, they would just skip you because the resume wouldn't have formal design education on it.
I feel like many self taught designers can be even more qualified/knowledgeable sometimes bc of the amount of discipline that had to be done to be self taught in the first place haha - would really appreciate some insight into this, thank you! ❤

I struggle picking a right skill to learn. I get demotivated because all these skills comes with another skill which is the same for every skill. Which is sales skills. That's humanly impossible due how i lived my life

Graphic design is a lot of work but it’s like computer skills.
The cold hard reality is that IF you can manage to beat out 1,643 other graphic designers who also applied to the same job you want on Linkedin and Indeed, graphic designers make 50k average salary. You won't be doing anything "cool" "trendy" or "fun" either. Like to sit at a desk for 8 hours? Good. Like to do revision after revision b/c the boss can't make up their mind? Good. When you get laid off eventually be prepared to start the whole process over again too. Good luck!

hello everyone! hope you're having a lovely day. 🫂I am in need of *advice, tips, and overall insight about the beginning phases of my journey.*
here's a quick backstory:
for a long time, one of my greatest hobbies has been working on manipulation edits (Dena's floral portrait video is an example of what a manipulation edit is), purely for enjoying some alone time, having fun, and connecting with my friends. overtime I realized that the field of graphic design might be *the* "love what you do" type of career field for me. but I can't afford a bachelor's degree, only boot camps, educational books, and in-person and/or online courses.
I know that graphic design has a lot of fields but does anyone know specifically which could be fitting to my tastes to work on banners, flyers, infographics, etc? Dena's portfolio video also showcased some of her work that I'm heavily interested in, too.
additionally is it possible to pay my way as a self-taught? (assuming that I'll provide a good enough portfolio, of course) or is a degree an absolute necessity?
and if anyone could give advice on where to begin or tips that beginners should know, I'd be extremely grateful.
