As others have already said, 7 members renewed their contracts. This is completely unheard of for a Produce group. There was this whole fan-driven project and petition to try and keep IZ*ONE together and that completely failed. Imagine my shock and surprise when I heard the news of Kep1er's extension.
Mashiro and Yeseo are from 143 Entertainment (iKON's current label) and will be joining LIMELIGHT as new members. Currently Limelight is a trio that debuted in September 2022 and for their next comeback they'll be adding the two Kep1er Girls as well as two eliminated contestants of this year's season of Produce 101 Japan. So it's kinda funny that both Kep1er and Limelight will go on as 7 member groups.
Limelight is amazing btw, you really gotta give them a shot!
Mashiro and Yeseo were pretty much always planned to join Limelight from the very beginning so them going this path is not surprising.
But the fact that everyone else renewed shows me one thing: none of their original companies had any plans for the girls after July. The reason why the IZ*ONE extension failed was because the companies REALLY wanted their idols back to put them into their new groups. Especially Starship with Yujin and Wonyoung for IVE. But with the exception of Yeshiro, that really doesn't seem to be the case here. I fear to imagine what would have happened to these girls if Kep1er hadn't renewed.
This song is very disbandment coded. They probably wrote it before anyone knew of the extension. And I guess now we can view it as Mashiro's and Yeseo's goodbye song. Very bittersweet.
(I mean, honestly, does Limelight really NEED those two? They were already doing amazing stuff as a trio. Can't we just leave Yeshiro in Kep1er? 🥲)
I have never clicked on a reaction of yours faster. I'm ready to bawl my eyes out for the millionth time since this M/V/song came out.
Edit: I don't think we know how long they're renewed for yet as there hasn't really been any official news about it. There's speculation that it's either a year or another 2.5 years but at this point, who knows. I'm just glad we get more of them together, even as 7.

it's not an extension, it's a renewal
an extension is usually max a few months
for example they had already gotten a 2 week extension for the concerts in japan in July

I'm back after 5 days of vacation in France where I was able to see IVE in concert and enjoyed Acciendo and Heya live. and now I come to enjoy a group that I love. so I remained on the fact that indeed Yeseo and Mashiro were returning to their original agencies. but for me nothing was confirmed for the others. Wake one is fighting to keep them and extend their contracts but I have not seen official confirmation. of course I hope that we will be able to see them together it breaks my heart to see each time groups that I love disband so early while they still have so much to show. and DG you're right it's bitersweet. especially since for me it may be their best title track.

thanks I saw the setlist and it looks like they removed either way and its my fav from them 😭 I was actually looking forward to it the most. if they removed it for the entire remaining countries left for their tour, life is unfair 😭😂

Yeah, I'm so glad they could get a contract renewal 😊 Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's unprecedented that a temporary group gets their contract renewed. I.O.I., Wanna One, and IZ-ONE weren't so lucky 😢 (EL7Z UP and Feverse probably won't be so lucky either)
Yeseo and Mashiro will join Limelight, which is already a nice group, and will only get better now.
General pronunciation tip:
In my experience, almost all Korean and Japanese names have an emphasis on the first syllable. So, YEseo, MAshiro

Fromis_9? They're the survival show group that lived past the initial contract. They had to change labels but it still counts, no? IZ*ONE were apparently really close but Starship Entertainment happened. By the way, I've never seen anything close to 143/Limelight slander towards IVE or Starship, neither back when it was happening nor after IVE's debut. The companies have the right to execute their rights and plans they've already, openly invested in. Some people really need to grow up and at least try to understand.
Feverse are already confirmed to be done. What a marketing fiasco by the way considering the lineup. A bit unlucky that Eunbi got way more popular after the Reverse show as well but there was no intention to even try to capitalize. Did they even reveal the real identities of the members? Really sad.
EL7Z UP apparently keeps getting delayed because they REALLY don't want to overlap with their regular groups and activities again as Yeonhee said in a recent talk show with Suyun, Dohwa and Elly. H1-Key and wooah (really rapidly) are coming back, Lovelyz are doing a reunion gig on a "Hangout with Yoo" show, Yeeun's been doing some festivals and concerts.. It's all going on this month, so it's logical to think that El7z members will be cleared to do something afterwards. To address the contract thing, they've been reported to be signed for three albums, not for an exact time period, so the only way to "renew" is to blow up, promote and sell a lot so there's a business incentive to do that. Knowing who their company is, there's never been too much hope.
Formis_9 although debuted from a survival show (Idol School) is a permanent group, as the trainees that participated on the competition was not signed under any company. It is similar to the situation as i-land 2. The group that formed from these competitions are not temporary project groups.
