I’m so delighted to have stumbled across your Channel! Yes, there are plenty of videos on making your own skincare products at home... But l have never watched a video to date with someone explaining everything in such detail. Also, your disclaimer stating your not a licensed chemist or esthetician. (I appreciated your honesty!) I have numerous problems with my skin and hair because of my Stage IV MBC. All of the years chemotherapy and radiation treatments did so much damage to my skin, nails and hair. I’m also older now (61) so my once porcelain skin and extremely think hair is gone. I don’t mind wrinkles so much but liver spots and being able to see my scalp is extremely distressing. Being bald during chemo was one thing but each time my hair grew back... l never knew how it was going to grow back... Straight, wavy or outright curly, but it always grew back thinner.
I have spent so much money on various products with no results. I even used a shampoo and conditioner make for Horses called, “Mane ‘n Tail”. I’ve purchased “customized shampoo and conditioner after filling out an extremely long questionnaire. They even inquired about any recent illnesses and medications (if any) I was taking. So I was extremely hopeful and paid a absurd amount of money. It didn’t help my hair but it did smell lovely.
You even listed where to purchase everything from the ingredients to the tools. I already subscribed and I’m looking forward to watching more (everyone) of videos. I’m so excited and I’m definitely going to make this shampoo. Thank you for sharing your wonderful videos (and hard work) with everyone. 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
P.S. Do you sell your Shampoo online? l thought about try it before I bought of of ingredients and tools... I’m only asking because if I going to make it, I’m going to spend a hefty amount for the start up materials. The pH meter alone is almost $70.

I spent a little fortune and was happy until trying to make my own shampoo. Never occurred to me to check ph level. Beginners mistake. No doubt I will make many more. I have curly, thick hair with highlights to bring out the bit of grey I have. What could I add to this recipe to fill that need?? Thank you so much and I've aboed your channel, looking so forward to watch your other videos. Cheers, Julie😊

Excited to try this as my first attempt at a shampoo was a failure. I’ll have to substitute some ingredients but think I can make this work, thank you!
PS Tara if you or anyone else reading this knows what I did wrong here, I’d love your thoughts:
I recently made my first shampoo using a pre-mixed shampoo base then added more surfactant to it to increase the lather, additives like bamboo extract and carob extract, rice protein and a veggie keratin and scent (essential oils) and preservative.
It looks clear (no lumps or “bits” floating), smells great and has a nice texture and foam but it left so much white debris clinging to my scalp and hair shafts that I had to re wash my hair.
I didn’t notice anything strange when I was using it but when I combed through my wet hair, I noticed all this white goop on the brush (at first I thought I was having a psoriasis flare up, even though I don’t usually get scalp psoriasis, thankfully). But there was too much sticky white residue to be from anything other than the product itself. And I had rinsed my hair very well as I always do so it wasn’t just a usage issue.
Without posting the full recipe (which I can do), does anyone have any ideas what may have caused this “un-rinsable” white residue when formulating shampoo? It looked like massive amounts of dandruff flakes (which I don’t have) that were sticky like glue - had a hard time getting it all out even after the second wash with a commercial shampoo.
Needles to say, that experiment was an epic fail! I don’t think I’ll use pre-mixed shampoo bases again, I have enough surfactants to create my own recipe, but I feel bad wasting a big bottle of the stuff so if there’s an obvious lesson to be learned here that I can take in, I’m all ears fellow formulators as I know many of you are more experienced than I!! 💜

Most of animal based ingredients used in cosmetic industry even real animal based keratin is a byproduct of meat industry, the parts that otherwise would go to waste. And meat industry would always exist, no doubt. We are not meant to be herbivores no matter how much you want that to be true. In where I live you can’t find any vegetarian dishes in any restaurants and no one here is vegetarian. And we are always ranked top one/two of the most longevity country in the world. Better yet try spending your energy on healthy and sustainable meat industry instead of mass producing meat and inhumanly treating of animals. That’s more the right direction than being a vegan.
