Hey there! We're Joe + Kalyn!
As online entrepreneurs, we thought, "why not work from home... on the road"? So in 2019, we bought and renovated a 2005 Jayco Designer Fifth Wheel, which took us to every state in the lower 48. But the economy hit our business especially hard after the 'vid, spurring us to pivot in new directions and try different strategies, including various RV work camping jobs!
Follow our full-time RV Life journey as we build back our bank accounts in order to fund the biggest RV trip of our lifetime-Alaska.

Paying for dry camping on private property helps the owners pay for property taxes, road maintenance, tree trimming, the greeter, liability insurance and probably more.
How lovely you had a place to park since the park was full.
Bless you for supporting a small business.
Oh we understand that and we probably wouldn't have even mentioned it if it was around $10 a night to stay here... It's hard to justify paying $29CAD a night for zero amenities. When you can get full hookups for $45CAD it's strange to think that the Water, Electric, and Sewer might only be $15 of that. 🤷🏼 Just our opinion. -J
I'm glad you don't know how truly entertaining you are. It would totally ruin it.
I feel there is a hidden message here. LOL
Really not sure how to take this one..... 👀 😂 -J
It is all good. You guys are a joy to watch
@@OpenRoading
Take it well since you two are very respected by your subscribers. But remember that we are also laughing at Canadians. 😊. Thank goodness you only dealing with them on the way to another US state.
They are pure gold!
That's awesome you are with Craig and Victoria! Follow both of ya'll. Looking forward to your adventures. Enjoyed 8 yrs of FT Rving with my husband. He passed away recently, so now I travel with CZcams. Remember to cherish each day and love one another. Make happy memories you'll always have those.
Wonderful wonderful advice! Thank you. -J
Poor Trinity getting threatened by artwork of dogs 😂🤭🫣
😂 RIGHT?! 👀 Gotta protect the fam from those giant stickers! -J
You should meet up with simple living Alaska.
Hi PD. It would be very fun to meet them. -J
We were parked next to one of those RV America Class C rentals with a picture of a huge dog on it and every time we took our dog out he went crazy seeing that not-dog.
What a couple of sweethearts, you deserve to succeed! And you will, keek on keeping on!
Thank you so much. The channel grew like gangbusters and then slowed wayyyy down. But we're just so happy and grateful that people are enjoying the content and we're not doing it completely for free anymore! 🙂 -J
Congrats on making it to this milestone of the journey. So happy that Trinity did so well at the border crossing! Everyone is cheering for her and her new Open Roading life. Can't wait for the upcoming content (especially with Craig & Victoria). Truly, very entertaining content that we look forward to watching every week. See ya soon.
Thank you so much! Trinity continues to protect us from stickers and surprise us with calmness around officials. 😂 Maybe her dream is to be a police dog someday. 😁 -J
My rule for Canada and alaska was to always fill up when at a half tank. You’ll hit road construction once you get farther north - they’ll have you sit for hours sometimes waiting. Always turn off The truck when you arrive to a construction stop. You may sit 5 min or 2 hrs. I made the mistake of leaving the truck idling after I had passed a fuel stop. nail biter.
While you’re in Canada, spend the money to get some scepter MFC’s to keep an extra 10-15 gal (2 or 3 jugs) of diesel in your truck next to your water in the bed. Late summer far north some of the stations run out of fuel and you’re at the mercy of what’s available. I had to purchase fuel from a hunting camp one time from their generator tank. $10/gal…
For sure. We've got our fuel stops all mapped out! -J
FYI, some credit cards charge no foreign exchange fee. Some charge at or above the daily rate, and charge you at the end of each day. And some charge a transaction fee PLUS they settle at the end of the month, charging the average rate for the month.
So it pays to ask ahead. Last time I was in Canada, the store didn't take dollars at par--but I could use Amex with no fees, at the official exchange rate for that day. It was a fast choice!
Yep. Learned this one the hard way. 😂 One of our cards has a per-international-transaction fee. Thankfully we had only made 2 purchases before we figured it out. -J
Exciting! After you talked about how reactive Trinity could be to strangers, I shared your apprehension. Then she alerted to the dog images on the trailer 🤣🐾
Uniformed border agent? No problem. Giant dog sticker? ALERT EVERYONE!!!! 😂 -J
Loved this whole video but as a dog owner, my favs were Trinity not making a peep when you had to roll down the window at the border crossing and then barking at the painted dog pics on the sign. ❤️🐾
Yep. That's her. I think she's smarter than she's letting on though and knew that she could beat the stickers but was a little less confident about the border guard. 😂 -J
Thanks for showing the kamikaze mouse again 😊
"Not towards me, not towards me!! 😅
No way I wasn't getting more milage out of that one. 😂 🐭 -J
Congratulations on crossing the border successfully! Trinity handled it like a champ! That fuel stop was tricky! Happy adventures this week! 🙂
Trinity did the border crossing better than me! Next time I need the pep-talk. 😂 -J
Don’t fool around with gas on the Alcan. When you find a gas station fill up cause you seriously are in the wilderness. Talk about stress. This is going to be an entertaining trip. Enjoy every minute. It’s beautiful and breathtaking taking. Enjoy. ❤️❤️❤️
I made that mistake. Once
Kalyn has all the fuel Alcan fuel stops mapped out!
We wouldn't have even attempted this one if we didn't know the milage (or is it Kilometer....age) to Banff. I did the math and knew we were good even if there were some steep grades thrown in. Driving through downtown though.... not part of the plan. 😂 -J
Two of my favorite CZcamsrs traveling together to Alaska - Priceless!!!! This will help me in our planning for our trip in three years! So looking forward to seeing what’s to come!!
Wow guys, great episode! We can really sense your excitement about going into Canada. So glad you’re bringing us along with you! My husband wanted me to comment about Trinity barking at the dog art, she’s such a good girl watching out for you. 😇
Super excited! Trinity will protect us from all the dangerous stickers out there. 😁 -J
Our home sold today and you have been an inspiration for us hitting the road. Thank you!
🎉🎉 I hope you enjoy so so much of it! I'd say every minute but we know there's going to be ups and downs - there always is! Don't forget to stop and enjoy the scenery. We moved way too fast at first! -J
This is the first video I’ve watched of yours and it was so surreal to watch you go through the border that I’ve crossed well over 700 times in the past 10 years and shop at the same grocery store that we shop at in Cranbrook was a blast to see. Made me smile. PS. You drove right by my house. lol.
That's too funny! Next time we'll be sure to honk our horn. 😁 That border crossing has got to be one of the best. It's the same one we crossed in 2019 and it was a good experience both times! -J
Park the RV. Disconnect the truck and drive to the garage to fuel up.
Oh man...that's a last resort for me. Adds so much time! But I totally understand the reasoning.-J
Great video guys. 🙂 I am glad you are not traveling alone. It's always nice to have someone else with you just in case something comes up.
For sure! We all thought it would be smart to make sure we were together for all those long stretches with no service and no cell service. -J
I just saw on RV Lifestyle there are new and complicated rules for bringing dogs back into the USA starting in August. Just wanted to let you know in case you haven't heard yet so you have plenty of time to figure that all out. Can't wait to see your travels this summer!
Yep! Appreciate it! I know we have the right chip in her - still gotta go over the rest to make sure we don't get hung up when the time comes.
I'm sure, like everything else with border crossings, this is going to be one of those things that they don't ask for 99% of the time but the 1 time you try to go through without your ducks in a row, they'll ask. -J
My in-laws lived in Canal Flats. Her log home is now the town centre. There are natural hot springs snd petroglyphs.
That's awesome. Such a beautiful area! -J
Bro didn't even wait for the glow plugs to charge when he was told to go.
VROOOOOOM! 😂😂😂😂
GET ME OUTTA HERE! lol.
In all honesty I forget to wait a few seconds more often than I should. -J

I actually got deported from Canada in 2007 and have never been back. I don't like the way they treat people up there, bunch of fake British subjects.
Cracking up! We can't wait to visit Canada and Alaska, but I will definitely be using these old videos for help, when the time comes. I feel such information overload with it! Trinity and her fake dogs...SOO funny!
We fly by the seat of our pants a lot more than we'd like to admit. But there is a beauty in the flexibility. But I'm glad Kalyn is a planner and for things like border crossings she makes sure we don't try anything dumb. 😁 -J
The reason the spigot took awhile to start water flow is that the actual valve is far down to stay below the freeze line.
That makes sense! -J
Loved watching this! I'm a Canadian who grew up in a town on the Alaska Hiway... I'm looking forward to following your journey. Safe travels!
Very cool! We're enjoying the road so far! -J
Welcome to Canada. You're in my stomping grounds. I look forward to watching your adventures. You guys are so much fun to watch.
Thanks so much for watching! We're loving your fine country! 😂 (I don't think I have to put the "-J" on the end because you already know who wrote this.)

Awesome. I’m so glad you guys are hanging out.

Very Beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing.
Safe travels.
We honestly are struggling to capture just how beautiful everything is! -J
If you had done this in 2023 we might have run into you 😮. We cruised from Japan to Alaska and finished in Vancouver then did the Rocky Mountaineer and explored the Canadian Rockies. We loved that whole area.
That sounds like an absolutely epic adventure!!!!! -J
Hope you guys had a great week!🎉
🏆! It's been a hectic one actually! Lots of technical glitches but things are looking up! -J
Made that trip a few years ago...tip number one, never never never pass a gas station without filling up. 😎
Uh oh... we may not have followed that advice. But we haven't run out....yet! 😂 -J
I’m so excited!!! 2 of my favorite CZcamsrs traveling together. Love it. Going to be a fun summer!!!
🙂 We're pretty phyched! -J
We all know that Trinity is the star of the show but could we get more Cody content? 🐰
He's been introverting out a lot. 😁 He got a photo in the community though today! -J
Trinity barking at the pictures of dogs 🐕 🤣
That's our Trin! -J
How exciting. Safe travels, we’ll be watching. ❤😊😊
Thanks so much! -J
Nothings sneaking up on Trinity. Haha
Nope, she is ON IT. -K 😂
Great video. Safe travels.
Thank you! -J
You give us a good glimpse of what it looks like. Pictures don’t ever really show the full beauty, which inspires us to come see it all for ourselves…Someday!!
Hi Terry!
We really felt like we didn't do a good job of it in this video...but we just drove the Ice Fields Parkway today (for a video that comes in 2 weeks) so we worked really hard at trying to do a better job of capturing the beauty. Still will only be a fraction of it though! -J
Great video! I’m looking forward to your travels. Happy trails.👍🏼😎
Thanks so much! -J
Can't wait to watch this! You guys are getting closer to Alaska everyday. Excited for your postcards!
Getting closer to begin writing them!! Actually really looking forward to that! -J
Looks like fun for both couples, great choice.
Thanks! -J

Woo hoo the joint journey begins. Banff is beautiful and I’m glad you all are getting a chance to see it. Trinity is hilarious barking at the side of a truck good stuff.

Awesome! So far - Highly recommend this route. -J
You guys are great. Just regular people that I can identify with. I’m looking forward to the trip! Also Trinity is still the best thing to happen to your channel 😄🐶❤️She’s such a good girl. We all love a rags to riches story. Animals add so much to our lives from loyalty to entertainment.
Trinity has brought us so much happiness over the past several months. It's been awesome to see her grow more and more playful. -J
It’s so funny that Craig and Victoria pop in at the end! I’ve been following them for a while, but I just happened to watch your channel today for the first time, and I thought “wow they are doing the same trip as Wild RV Life”. I thought it was pretty funny!! You guys are very entertaining, I’ll definitely watch you both now. 😂
Haha! The algorithm knew what it was doing when it served our thumbnail to you. 😀-J

Haha! I can tell you know us pretty well on here if you're calling us crazy. 😜 - J
Fancy driving Joseph. Those were narrow roads.❤ It’s going to be an epic summer.
Really looking forward to it! -J
Thank you for visiting Canada, hope you had fun. As a home sick Canadian living abroad thanks. Come back.
Still here enjoying it! -J
Probably a little late for this suggestion to help you guys, but might help someone else...write down the Metric (meters) height of your rig and tape it on your dash where you can easily see it (next to the speedometer?). Especially relevent/helpful at gas stations with canopys.
So happy you guys are on your way - this is going to be an awesome summer!
Good call! We're still in country so we may do it. We know that we're good if it's 4 meters or over - and that gives us a little buffer. We never thought to convert the length today and kept seeing length restriction signs. 👀 Did some quick math though and figured it out. -J
Funny video! You always make my day!!
I’m so glad! 😍-K
Ive traveled from New Mexico to Canada, the Rockies mountains are beautiful and each area has its special places. I don’t feel that anyone place is the best, they are all so scenic. Canada just takes more work to get to so maybe it feels more special? 💁♂
So many beautiful and special places everywhere across the countries. Not casting shade...we just like the Canadian Rockies better when compared to the US Rockies (and we're confident that others feel the opposite or in-between). 🙂 -J
Love you guys. Keep on doing productivity things!!!😂
😂😂 I will never live this down. Nor should I. lol -J
I'm so glad you guys are friends!! I watch wild rv life too!!
Craig and Victoria are awesome! -J
So glad your trip has started. I was yelling at the screen when you passed on the gas and decided to go to Banff. Been there and done that but our credit card was compromised so we spend hours at that gas station in the heat of summer with super crowds. Glad you are there on the shoulder season. Enjoy and here’s to many shenanigans with friends❣🙉🙊🙈
Haha! If it had been a reasonable turn around...we would have totally done that. But it was literally miles of 2 lane roads with no real good spot to turn around without getting into it's own type of pickle. -J
I love that you aren't wearing gloves when dumping your tanks! I don't either, just wash your hands when done!
Hahahaha! YAY another for team no gloves. I think we have a youtube short we made a couple years back that you might get a kick out of... czcams.com/users/shortsd9MgSEc4FFg
I like the travelogue style since I can’t travel this summer. It’s nice to look out your windshield and take a trip with you.
We had that last summer. Thankfully in our case we were "stuck" in a beautiful spot but man...we did miss the road. Welcome aboard! -J
Yay congrats 👏🎉😊❤
We are so glad we made it through! -K
Welcome to my fine country. Hope you enjoy your month here. Safe travels and if your return passes by Kelowna, I would love to buy you a coffee and say hi.
Everyone saying "fine country" is making my night. 😂
Thanks so much for the offer. I *think* we are coming back further north - but that is always subject to change so stay tuned and if you see we are heading that way please remind us! -J
I I am glad you on the way. Just be safe sure, a lot of video and pictures.
That's the plan! We didn't have as much "scenery" in this video because we're still getting used to the new camera setup and a lot of our scenery video was unwatchable. lol -J
Welcome to Canada, enjoy your trip.
Thanks so much! Loving your FINE country! 😁 -J
I follow Craig and Victoria as well. I just told my husband that I'll be watching both channels going to Alaska. Surprise!!! You are with them. This will be great.

We wanted to. 😂 Just couldn't turn around on that road. LOL! -J
Have a great time. Our dog barks at the dogs, cats and farm life on Tv 😂😂
I don't know what it is with this girl and stickers... *sigh* 😂 At least your dog barks at ones that are moving. lol -J
I can't believe you are already in Canada. I am glad we are not the only ones that have pressed on getting low on gas because it was too hard to turn into gas stations with our camper. I hope you have a wonderful time in Banff...will be waiting for your next video to include us on your journey.
I always do the math first! But yeah, I'm not afraid to push it a little if I have to. Besides...if I run out, I've got the bike I can use to go get more. 😂 -J
W Victiria and craig!!! Woohooo! They just started a community on their channel! 🎉
They did indeed! -J
You guys are going to have a blast together. By the way, the scenery is beautiful. Safe travels!
It really is! I'm so frustrated that I feel we haven't done a good job capturing it. We have plans to do a better job of that on our next travel day. -J
I loved this , very well done. Trinity is becoming quite the 'show girl'.

As a kid We use to drive near Toronto down to Niagara falls And walk over the border on a birth cert And say drivers lic for "picture" ID We made it once with no picture. Head over And get American candy And "slice" soda See the spots And head back No issues .....2002 On a whim I felt like Buffalo wings My childhood friend fills up the tank we grab a coffee And head to Where else? Buffalo for wings ...Border guard : Passport drivers ID where you coming from where you going? Buffalo! For what reason ? : Wings ...This guy could not grasp the idea...Drive over to lane 2 >>> 1 hr 45 mins of questions And background checks
2011 - My Childhood friend does stand up comedy as a hobby But gets paid to do it Border guard (All the questions) Then sees my friends ash from his cigarette drop on the ground...Sir i am going to remind you while in the USA not to litter. Confused He replies Ahh Ok there I will try not to. Sir you think your being funny? Let me ask you something What do you do for a living..(Man O man I seen this one coming) I'm a comic ! ( I think the officer was going to say Well im a border guard I can deny you entry to the United states so smarten up) Instead the guys eyes widened And face turned red....OK mister comic you want to mess around ...Line 2 AGAIN !
They tore apart the van looking for anything Meanwhile Here is us in the office answering questions TRYING to tell the supervisor He is a comic he has done shows ! ..nope nothing ...Then my friend says Oh In my glove box there is a flyer for Yuk Yuk's comedy show with my name on the roster dated 2 weeks ago ...Supervisor go's out to the van pulls out the paper Shakes his head walks back in ..Officer i told you And it was your worker that i was honest with i answer all the questions the best i could It was just bad timing they were pissed off with me for no reason And bad choice of words that took us here. "Guys" grab your stuff And go I'm so done with this Asshole today ( We assumed the other guard )
2024 - I dont go out of that border any more : )
Only real bad experience we’ve had with border guards (not nearly this bad) was at that same crossing. US border patrol there seems to be a little extra feisty. -J
I cant wait to watch this adventure with you ! I am going on vacay with you. Have fun and be safe ! Make lots of videos ❤
CZcams Vacays can be great! Someone else pays all the bills and you don't even have to pack. 😂 -J
Wow! So beautiful. Wow! I am impressed at your driving skills, Joe. Sure do wish I was a fly in the wall of your RV. When I vacation I love to see nature, not people. I wish I had been able to travel where y’all are. My trips to Canada have been to Niagara Falls and around the area there. It was our honeymoon trip. Had to go to Niagara Falls because my parents honeymooned there. I’d been once but my husband never had been. We went to Niagara in the Lake which was kinda cool. Funny thing, we lived in a small town in Ohio. When I was making reservations for our stay I was giving my address and said the name of the town, Farmersville. She immediately asked if it was xxxx state. I was so shocked because our town was around 800 people. She was from there. It was cool because we touched base, she came in to work just to meet us. Had so much fun in Canada.
I am living vicariously through you guys. I doubt I’ll be able to travel again, just one of those things. I love to travel and always thought I’d do it when I retired. Well, along comes health issues! lol You guys are so smart to do it now. I pray you will be able to continue as long as it is your dream. Blessings.
Thanks so much for the kindness Ernestine. We're going to try to do a better job to capture the beauty of Canada in the upcoming videos. It truly is stunning!
That's so funny about the random connection in Niagara! I understand how shocked you must have been - I grew up in a super small town in New York and if someone knew it by name out of the blue I'd be surprised! -J
Great episode! We made this same Canadian port crossing mid May but left our travel trailer in West glacier. Banff was so breathtaking with every possible weather change. We subscribed after the episode where you first met Trinity and were captivated by the bunny-pup combo. We have Guinea pigs but haven’t figured how to travel with them on longer stretches yet! Thanks for inspiring us!
The weather here is so strange! We’ve realized that the weather apps are just their best guess. 😂 -J
It's like upstate NY. When you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes
Lol I was cracking up at the border crossing
My brain went into full on reboot mode. -J
You two are so cute! Enjoy your summer. Can't wait to see your adventures.
Thanks so much! When I was in my 20s I always cringed at "cute." At 41 I'll take it to the bank! -J
You haven't started calling them 'klicks' yet 😊
LOL! is a Klick a kilometer!!!??? I never knew that! -J
Had no idea you would meet up, been following both for some time bow, from South Africa, love both channels and your wonderful country!
Glad we were able to surprise someone! 😁 -J
Wow snow at 38 degrees that's nutty! I usually don't even think about snow until it's like 34.
It was a very sloppy instant melt type of snow. I also don't fully trust the truck thermometer. 😂 -J
I went through the border near PENTICTIN, THEY WERE SOOOO MEAN TO MEEEE. I told them I lived in my rig and the guy made me park and go in and insinuated I was going to mooch off the CANADIAN govt. I told him I was a day trader, he said "well, I don't know anything about that" FINALLY, his supervisor came and snatched my passport from him and handed it to me and said "WELCOME TO. ANADA, ENJOY YOUR STAY" NEVERmind I really wanted to leave because the WHOLE hillside was on fire, inferno, which was 100 yards from the center.
REMEMBER, you get a 30% DISCOUNT ON EVERYTHING with the conversion. 🙌 Sorry CANADA !!!
IF you go into BANFF go at like 6:30a-7:00a a huge heard of Elk are parading down the sidewalk where the BANFF sign is.
I don't believe in the whole 30% discount on everything because everything seems to be about 30% more expensive. 😂 We haven't done all the math as of yet but I think everything is going to be about a wash pricewise.
So sorry you had that experience! Such an absolute pain! -J

Lol, the sanitary comment brought up a funny story. I was 11 years old. And my softball coach brought up "sanitary socks" for the uniform. And I said I'm only 12. Don't need them yet..lol. have fun thanks for the giggles .
😂
It is so funny to see Americans crossing Canadian border they are so stress, dont know why....hope you have a nice trip guys.
Because it's not a 0% chance that you'll say something dumb and end up with your RV getting searched. 🙂 I hear it happens more coming back into the US (anecdotal) but it does happen. But...you are probably correct in that people like me stress more about it than we should.
Stay tuned for our crossing into Alaska....it was quite a bit more interesting than this one. -J
Thank you for a very entertaining viewing experience - trust your travels through Canada and Alaska are amazing! FYI T-Mobile backed off of their away plan and have put it on indefinite hold... we've been using it in our RV for nearly 2 years and were scrambling to find an alternative as well, but glad we have a bit more time as it's a great deal... considering starlink as an option if/when they go back to the away plan. Thanks again and have fun traveling with Craig and Victoria.
Yeah - I'm not sure what is going to happen on the Tmobile front. It got more dramatic for us. They wouldn't allow us to return our unit in store, so we had to ship it. I packed it well but they claim it was broken so they wanted to charge us $75 for the return. Soooo now, we're disputing that. So much fun! lol. -J
