- So I have actually received a decent amount of questions about this. So here is a video to answer this for those of you interested. Please Keep in mind none of this ensures you will get hired, just a few tips to help your chances. Let me know down below what other gamestop videos you mught like and thanks for watching! As many of the bad things I've heard and seen about the company, is it still weird that I want to work there?

I stopped after discovering Best Buy's gamer club gives you 20% off all new games. I just want to put all that gaming experience to real-world application.
+DicloniusGames yeah I use gamers club unlocked as well. Amazon prime does it to. But you also get double the points in rewards at Best buy. If you use their credit card it goes up to 3 times the rewards.

What is funny about this is that when I was younger, the local GameStop(EB Games) preferred to hire people who knew nothing about games and didn't play video games. I am thinking they did it to make sure the people were doing their job and selling the items to people instead of slacking off and talking about games and playing them all day while at work(portable, demo machines, etc.).
It was very frustrating for any customers trying to get any advice or information about games etc.
I was a regular at my local GameStop for 10+ years since they opened. And their Manager Izzy (yes that is Her Name, Prodigious!) actually offered me a Job, but I was already working at Target.
I would quite target and work at game stop instead it sounds like a more fun job

I haven't been into a GameStop in years but when I was a regular customer I always got the MVP card thing with the magazine subscription....Mostly for the magazine.....Now when I buy my games from Amazon Prime I get new games for $10 off the regular price and I get most all of my used games from eBay.....Sometimes I'll swing into a GameStop to check out the bargain rack.
Hey man I was just curious about if there were any ways I could myself in job searching and I found this vid. Reason being I was just searching how to get hired at different places and help myself in interviews. I shop a few in my general area where I live but I don't know if I consider myself a "regular" let alone a "regular" at just one location...and as much as I enjoy videogames as seen by what I myself upload here, I generally don't keep current or keep current with technology overall...

Berry Slushy my opinion you would waste your time only because they mostly can't hire you unless you are 18
you should probably still try, but it would be better to just wait 2 years and try again. The reason why they don't really hire people under 18 is because you have to be at least 18 to sell an M rated game
+Adelgal that's not true you don't have to be 18 to sell an M game. It's that you can't work past certain times and require breaks things they don't like.
Gamestop is like working a sales job without getting sales job money. You get minimum wage or very close to it and no matter how much you sell you still get paid by the hour. If you are good at sales you can do way better than this place.

I get ignored gamestop job at blackstone for the 2nd time but they end up hiring some guy who wont shut the fuck up about the flash and talks 2 words per second(flashmouth) and when I go to pre order dishonored 2 he asks me what the lighting bolt on his shirt is and you know what hes gonna reply with and I tell him I dont like the flash so I say im gonna get going and he goes in depth with the flashes backstory and everytime I tried to leave he said WAIT! and I was stuck in the back corner of the xbox section for like 24 minutes. I was wondering how I didnt get hired during that timespan and his voice just did that blur thing in my ears when I zoned out to make it go by faster.

In conclusion, when you want the new and hot "New Nintendo 3DS XL", they always stuff USED USED USED in your faces. Dude, I just want a New Nintendo 3DS XL.

Disdained Harmony the employee must have gotten confused with the NEW Nintendo 3DS XL rather than a brand new original Nintendo 3DS XL. Asking for a “new NEW Nintendo 3DS XL” does sound quite redundant tho.

So i'm thinking of applying to Gamestop and I have an entire list of games that I am obsessed with that no one has heard of, but should I still put Call of Duty and GTA on my gaming list? I do enjoy both those titles.

I went to a GameStop Job Fair a week ago it went well but there were like 100 people there too. Interviewer said maybe I'll get a call maybe I won't. Now I don't even care because I have two jobs that pay more. I just wanted to work in a video game environment.
I got a job at Gamestop once... they said they would call me for my schedule, then never did...
All the people I know who work at Gamestop dont get enough hours. The only gamestop employee I buy stuff from she gets 6 hours a week. I have applied to them but I would literally just use them for interview experience. I've made more money in fast food plus I get food.

So I've worked in retail before (shoes,accessories,clothing) and I'm am VERY experienced in sales, paperwork, money handling. (I was a key holder)...
However, my 5 minute interview at GameStop didn't give me time to elaborate on my skills. To my surprise I was hired on the spot. To be honest I was told by my pervious (female) managers that "they wouldn't have hired me if I weren't pretty"

+Cam Avery so the interview process is different from manager to manager. I would interview you differently then most. It's pretty much a straight forward interview. Just games will come up.
Take a resume with you. It stands out a little when going in for an interview at a gamestop.

I actually did go into Game stop as a regular dropped in a couple of applications several months apart and they never said they were looking to really hire any one, even during the holiday season, the strange thing i find about this video and what one of the Game stop employee's told me was that "they typically look for someone who has retail experience" not necessarily Game knowledge. I looked at one of your last Videos and i think it really sucks they don't pay overtime but i think i can see why because to me everything is going digital and sadly Game stop might go the way of blockbuster. of course maybe that is just me being a pc gamer.
Yeah normally they do their holiday hiring in October. But almost every one we hired never had retail experience. But to the same extent they never pay overtime because they wont let you work above 40hrs. But why pay an employee that much more to do the same thing they always do. But their death will be a slow death.
I might be rambling a bit, but I will say that I like Game stop but from what i have seen and heard (including from your Videos) is that Game stop has problems with how they operate, an example would be the rewards card/points rolling over back to 0 after about a year (takes forever to get points unless you shop there a lot) or dealing with problems involving per-order's ( I had pre-ordered a collectors edition game with a gift card that got hacked) but the most frustrating part for me at least was not being able to call in and ask for an interview let alone in person, so as much as I don't want it to happen i guess they kind of deserve it ,end rant, thanks for the response and the video!

Certain customers wouldn't have to bother gamestop employees if they where actually doing there job in the first place like for customers who are bargain hunting and gamestop puts the shitty box with just the name of the game on the shelf.Not everyone will have a smartphone to pull up a youtube video of a game or Wikipedia about it, especially if we have never played it, we check out the box, the screen capture graphics, check to see if it contains an instruction manual.When gamestop gets lazy and puts the crap box out with no pictures than customers will get discouraged, and than feel like its not worth it and leave or end up getting a crap game and be stuck with it.

first of all why would I work for a business like gamestop in which most of the head honcho's are not real gamers them self's and they don't know what make's a game a good game or a great and really really don't care about their own employee's. In fact there is ex-workers all over youtube that are saying the same thing. bottom line is gamestop is just all about making money that's all and when they don't get what they want from you they will drop like bad habit. they have zero zip zilch integrity.

the questions on the applications must have changed being 2019 they do not ask that anymore. but they do ask what game systems do you know. and what phones and tables do you know..

The only way to get hired at GameStop is to be friends with someone who works there. GameStop gets too many applicants and the workers only hire their friends it seems.

So i graduated high school this past year, I haven't had an official job, I do mostly side jobs for my dad because he owns a business. And I'm undecided what I necessarily want to do for college/beyond that. I play mostly Destiny, GTA, Pokémon, and sports games. Would say I should apply to my local GameStop? Yes... A job that only gives you 6 to 8 hours a week at minimum wage, until November and you get some hours along with black Friday. Then when that's over, they could make you a key holder of you sale reward cards. Lol you would be happier to get a job at goodwill. I know that sounds weird but you'll get 20 hours and paid more. Or go to school and become a engineer and do something you'll love

Matthew Bell first of all thanks for the cuss words. Now only store manager and assistant manager can get 40 hours. They can't go past that or they will get in trouble. Then they get a set amount of hours to do scheduling for the staff. Now with that added most non key holders get two days a week from lets say 6:30 to 9:30 while others might get spread around with 3 days. And then who gets the most hours is set by the circle of life. I'm guessing you either don't work at gamestop or don't know. Either way don't stress it. My word doesn't mean anything just like yours

Your not going to earn to much respect at 15 so just do as your boss asks. Your gonna have to settle for some place like Kroger. My first job I was 13 and I worked at Big Bear

so I used to be a regular at my local gamestop, and the only Reason I haven't been recently is because I moved to far to go there as often... and my primary console died (I still play a lot on PC) but I just got out of HS do you think that's sort of reasonable? Damon Ames-Klein but still getting hired anywhere at a young age is difficult I tried looking for a job when I was 16 but couldn't until I was 17 and a half. most places don't want to have immature kids (not saying you are one) working in their "professional environments"
