So happy to discover this video today. My wife and I were on that train that day, riding in the Boston sleeper car. As we came into Rensselaer I was chatting with the Amtrak manager who had arranged the transporting of the private cars. He assured me that Amtrak was making a lot of money by doing this.
That must have been a great adventure on that train. We really enjoyed watching it and chasing it. Were you on the whole trip? We caught it going up North from Utica as well. Thanks for watching!
They ran the train up to Thendara/Old Forge on the MA&N and Adirondack Scenic. Could not go any farther North. Do not think that the run around track in Big Moose is big enough for all of the cars and two locos. They did not stay long. No facilities for the cars. Shows that the track can handle main line locos and equipment. Hopefully within the next few years or so can go all the way to Lake Placid, stay a few nights, and then head back.

Yes, 448 was the first several cars of the train, which split off and proceeded east as 448 to Pittsfield and Boston. I was on that train that day!
Oh so the private cars where not on it but 449 the other day had a private car and I didn’t see it):
Double slip switch at 32:00. Not in common use.
If you those two more it will be 13 private cars.
