- Why do jazz musicians like this tune so much? How do you get comfortable playing it on harmonica, without using overblows/overdraws? Did you know that its chord progression was used by Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, etc. to create many famous jazz standards? And it’s fun to solo over!
George Gershwin’s iconic song, “I Got Rhythm”, is the 2nd most popular chord progression in jazz, after the 12 bar blues. Every jazz musician has to know how to solo over “Rhythm Changes”.
Do I use overblows when I play it? Yes.
But do you have to do that? No.
I wrote melodies to Rhythm Changes for 3 harmonicas (Bb, Eb and F), and they DON’T require any overblows/overdraws to play. I hope you enjoy this video and that some of you will try playing these tunes.
“I Got Rhythm” by George Gershwin, 1930
The harmonicas I use in this video: Hohner Marine Band customized by Joe Filisko (Bb & Low F), Hohner Marine Band Deluxe (Eb)

Yes...Contrafacts
.. or the Harp players can 'suck it up' and learn to play OB's as they should. No one would play a piano with half the keys not there....
