  • We recently built a home theatre in our upstairs bonus room. I took timelapse videos of each day's work, finishing with exactly 100 videos roughly 30 seconds each, taken over a 3 month period. Videos were merged together and sped up by 50% to create a 30-minute video showing approximately 100 hours of work.
    Full build details and photos are here:
    www.avsforum.c...
    This build is nearly an exact replica of the theatre I built in our previous home 2 years prior: www.flickr.com...
    Timestamps for significant portions of the build:

    10:13 - Building bar top
    12:00 - Building screen frame
    12:53 - Soffit drywall installed (not recorded),
    12:54 - Finishing and staining bar top
    13:17 - Installing projector mount and frame

    Man!! That's alot of work! I applaud you and your spouse for taking on such a massive project and recording it for our viewing pleasure. I think I'll just take out a 2nd mortgage and call Audio Advice. Amazing job! I never even saw the speakers go in but I did see the cat dance while you were running REW and mastering the bass. These colors are close to my room Blue and Black, but repainting now as my wife complains it's too dark, auuggh! Congrats on the completion, great job. Thanks for sharing.

    I keep seeing this trend of taking a room with a huge window/exterior door area and people closing it off with drywall. What did you to to ensure you can still access that area from the interior for when it inevitably leaks?
    Why not delete the door and windows properly, and then turn that into a solid exterior wall?

    • @blue2gnt
      @blue2gnt  Před rokem +2

      The upstairs balcony is behind the screen. We live on the water in Florida so the exterior doors are hurricane rated sliding glass doors, unlikely to leak especially considering they’re on a covered patio. Wanted to maintain access to this patio which we did by installing the screen on hinges so the door can be accessed quickly. It takes less than 5 seconds to open and close the screen to walk behind it

  • @inlandchris1
    @inlandchris1 Před rokem

    If you have any decent subwoofers, its going to vibrate everything. You raised floor only has loose fiberglass, should be packed cellulose where the plywood would compress it more. Behind the screen is like an amplifier for the subwoofers., too much hollow space, its going to leak out and disturb your neighbors. I couldn’t finish it, sorry but looks nice though.

    • @blue2gnt
      @blue2gnt  Před rokem

      I have four 21” subs each in a 10 cu ft ported enclosure, and two 6000-watt amps. There’s no vibration, this isn’t my first theatre build
      Filling the riser with cellulose would completely defeat the purpose of using the riser as a helmholtz resonator/bass trap, which is what it’s primary purpose is. Using REW I have flat response at all six seating positions and 129db.
      Windows are all two-pane hurricane shutters, not much sound makes it’s way out of the room, so no complaints from the neighbors either 😉

    • @inlandchris1
      @inlandchris1 Před rokem

      @@blue2gnt very nice. However, the subs push the air to make you feel it instead of hurting your ears, that in my opinion as to the best tactile response you should have. Everyone is different, just giving my opinion. The dual pane glass is what I have and there is no noise leaking out to the neighbors, good choice.

    I don't get these kind of cinema setups. People put in (what I assume are) good sound systems, but then have high-backed cinema style seating, which will just ruin the sound anyway.
    And in this case there's no sound dampening either? Huh? You basically just painted the room black, put in a screen, and added bad seating. :(

    • @blue2gnt
      @blue2gnt  Před rokem +1

      Not sure why you would think there’s no sound treatment. Other than the entire ceiling, both 100” long windows, and both rear doors, all of which are 1” rock wool and 2” OC703. In addition to the high-pile carpet.

    • @wolfblaide
      @wolfblaide Před rokem

      @blue2gnt I'll have to watch the video again. It was hard to see what was put in, that's why I assumed not much. Regardless, my main point is the chairs are likely to cause issues regardless of any sound proofing. You lose a lot of the benefits of the proofing.
