I always remember what Scott said once.....When a good thing becomes and ultimate thing...it becomes a destructive thing. That's true with ANYTHING in life, even church service. I am so glad that you can keep this in perspective. We love you, and come back when you can.

Jim this is amazing! You don’t need to apologize, you are setting an example. Everyone will keep flatiron Amazing and I can’t wait for your return and all the stories you will bring. You take care of you first. You can’t be well for others if you are not well yourself. You’re awesome! Take care! We all love you! 🥰

Take all the time you need to heal. 🙏🏼 Flatirons Church will be here for you when you get back. You haven’t let the women of the church down, you’re showing us that we really are worth the time of day from a man of god, such as Jesus Christ himself. Thank you for all the hard work you’ve done to show us that.

Jessica Shelley You are setting an example, Jim, for other men to see and incorporate into their own lives. Taking time to be with Robin is the best sermon yet in the women’s series.
Kudos to the elders for acting on faith and with goodwill.

I agree 100%! I’ve only been attending online because we live in PA, but I noticed with the first sermon I watched that you were on the edge. I’ve been praying hard for you. You take all the time you need to reset. Love you and will continue to pray.

Thank you Jim for the great teaching. Thank you for your love for Flatirons. Thank you for your integrity that you showed here. Admitting your mistakes. This is the first I've seen of a pastor with this realism. That's why I love Flatirons since I started watching a yr or so ago. God bless you and your family. May your vacation be blessed. Looking forward to your return. Prayers going out to you and yours.

I’m sad to hear that you’ll be away for a bit. You will be missed. I was a guest at Flatirons in 2015 and haven’t missed a sermon online since then. I listen every week from West Virginia. I’ve gone back to like 2009 listening to sermons using the archives as well. I have gotten multiple people from my local church to follow Flatirons also because of how real and down to earth the teaching styles are. God has used it to help me with a lot of things with my job and at home with my family. I’m praying for you and your family and look forward to your return. Thanks Pastor Jim and all of the staff at Flatirons!

The fact that you are going first and leading this way is incredible! Your calling can only be nothing but overwhelming and taxing on you and your family. We have attended Flatirons for 10 years and we are so excited to see how God is going to move in your life and the life of this church in the next 6 months. Please rest, restore your family and dig deep into your loving Father. Thank you for sharing your heart this morning.

Jim, I respect you and this move so much. Over the last 4 years that I've spent since leaving Colorado, God has revealed to me that I was also "addicted" to Flatirons, and I know that's why he moved me to Texas (and now back home to Michigan)...and why He closed the door to me coming back to Flatirons last fall.
You've been an inspiration to me though your willingness to be used by God however He chooses, and how you've never once been scared to do hard things. I will be praying for you throughout your time away, and I know God will show up in ways you've never imagined.

A little tough to hear because I’ve only just discovered this church 5 days ago during a week where I really needed it. Rather than dialing up iTunes at the office, I had message, after message, after message going. I probably dove into 15-20 messages this week, including today’s live stream. Flatirons is armed with great teachers, so I’ll keep tuning in from Wisconsin.
I am originally from Kansas City and a massive Chiefs fan, so I hope I’m still welcomed. 😁
    Bless you, Pastor.

I was so incredibly touched to listen to Pastor Jim speak. It drove home to me that I’m in the right place. I’m blessed to sit under leadership that loves their pastor enough to stand up and say breathe. That loves him enough to say stop you’re getting off track.
As much as I love listening to him teach ... me too! I get off track. I wasn’t the wife I wanted to be, I wasn’t the mother or friend I wanted to be. At Flatirons I learned to breathe again.
In the end, I’m so excited for him and his family. Excited to see what God is going to do. I’m grateful to the elders of the church to for having the courage to stand up to, love and support such a charismatic leader. I’m grateful to have a pastor willing to be humble enough to say “me too.” I’m struggling I need to refocus. I’m grateful to his wife and family for all they sacrifice. My prayer is that this time isn’t only a time of refreshing for Pastor Jim, but his whole family.
I can’t wait to see what God has in store for each of them and for each of us that call Flatirons home. ❤️

I love you man! I started going to flat iron‘s early 2017 and I was blown away at how down to earth and easy you were to understand in the way you represent the Bible in today’s world. I understand when a person gets burned out you have to take a break. So many people end up screwing up their jobs and everything because they don’t stop and take a break. You are hands-down the best pastor I have ever listen to and I will continue listening to you even if I’m not going to flat iron’s church for a while at some points. God bless and I am excited to hear from you again!

OK Jim you will most likely never get to read this message but I hope it helps someone. Firstly I need to say to you a big thank you for being "my pastor & church" for the past 3 years or so. I live in N. Ireland, born & rared here. My wife is from America & with family in Denver. Her late sister introduced us to Flatirons West Wing many years ago, as we would visit annually & attended each time. CZcams has kept me connected to through the sermons. I am glad your Management Board have taken this step for you & family. Here's why. I am almost 62yrs old. I have had a very active busy life, farming, served my time as a joiner/carpenter. Run my own small small company, felt God calling me into working with at risk youth (I was kind of bad a ass biker, fighter, gun hoo drinking kind of young man) so I wanted to point youth in a better way. That led me into the outdoor adventure career & then after doing loads of courses including an MBA, I found myself as a CEO of a Christian YMCA. My job was demanding, our work was to combat the sectarianism (Catholic / Protestant conflict/murders/attitudes in N. Ireland). Like you I was 200% committed to challenging this evil that divide my country. I was also responsible for raising the main funds to keep it all afloat, salaries, the work, building a new centre on the political interface, compliance, maintenance, and it just kept going. I couldn't ever let go, switch off. My work ethics were if you have a problem just through yourself at it until it's done. That's what you do on the farm when rain threaten your harvest or sealing in a roof. You do what has to be done until you are done. That worked then, plus I was younger. My role as CEO was never done, financially I was searching for funds alway, alway at risk.. I felt this pressure & responsibility without it letting up for 16 yrs. In 2008 I had a warning, my mental health took a plip. I wish my Board would have taken the steps you're has. Instead during a financial crisis they didn't return 1 call for 6 weeks. My chairman told me earlier he never wanted to hear me talking about stress again. I took a weeks leave and then got back into the job. Don't get me wrong, my Board were all great people, my Chairman I loved liked a brother, but he just didn't know how to handle the mental health issues. The next years while God changed many young lives, keeping them out of jail, reconciliation in the community or with themselves, my responsibilities just took on a whole new level. After month's of severe pressure to keep afloat financially & getting my Board to make the cut I had recommended, June 2016 we did it. Now things looked better. I decided to take 6 days off. I didn't even get 1. For 3 weeks I slept, couldn't focus, no motivation, couldn't cook, nothing. I was diagnosed with severe suppressed stress & anxiety. Jim, this burnout caused me to retire. I now live with mental health, I still can't focus on complex tast, even reading & working to a cooking menu. Crowded spaces, church etc I avoid. It was my fault. I just gave too much to the job, never letting go. My family suffered, not knowing how I would come home, not speaking, sleeping or spending time alone to recover for the next day. Retirement was not an easy option for me, that was being lazy. One thing helped. Work went on, they didn't name any rooms after me, my family asked me to retire. My son said to me something I have never forgotten, "dad, I have had the YMCA dad & the sick dad, I much prefer the sick dad. You talk, laugh & show more interest in the family. That plus known my brain had changed, made the retirement decision for me. Today, no one from work ever enquires of me, no one from church. So Jim, flatirons & especially you, have been my spiritual guide, comfort & only source of church I have had for 3 years. So hopefully having this time off will refresh you & your family & prevent you from doing what I have done. Trust your family, your Board, your close friends & chil out. Take that AR 15 to the range & let off steam. I find that gets me among my true friends as does canoeing & photography. I will miss you in my workshop each week inspiring me, a broken person, to face my new life, bring Jesus with me & be challenged. You have a gift of making Christianity real to real people often on the Damascus road. May God truly bless you and your family over this time. If you feel like a wee break to N. Ireland, you are welcome to stay here with us. Hear you again in my workshop when you are ready. Hugo Dale.

Jim, you will be missed at Flatirons- but healers need to take time to heal themselves as well. You have reconnected so many of us to God and brought back our faith. That was at an incredible sacrifice to yourself and your family. Thank you for all that you have invested in us, but take all the time that you need to rest and relax. You and your family deserve that. We love you and can’t wait to see you again. Since moving out of state, I have not found another church that fills me like Flatirons does.
