Scrappy was the best thing this show created cause he is writen in a way that the characters should´ve been since season 1, tongue and cheek jokes about the franchise without sounding mean spirited or being edgy just for the sake of it. i mean sure his story its dumb but thats because the show is dumb (a bad kind of dumb), but there is not much difference from Velma´s Scrappy and the 2002 live action Scrappy

I dislike this show not because i hate it like a lot of people in the internet, but because i thought that a mature take on the Scooby Doo formula can work, that some of their ideas are interesting and it has good animation and i like some of the desings, but the show has underwhelming mysteries, cringe humor, unlikable characters and the Scooby Doo elements are just half heartedly add in.
I thought that season 2 was an improvement, but not by much, a big chunk of the season was about the romantic drama and a "science vs religion" debate and i don't care for eather, honestly Scrappy Doo was the best part of the show.
In regards to Scrappy i have mixed feelings because i though that he was cool and funny in the show, but also is just another of the only 3 ways Scrappy is show in modern media, a blink and you miss it cameo, a mean spirited jab at the character, just make it evil.

Mindy Kaling really hates A LOT of things, more importantly Scooby-Doo. No matter she's not in Inside Out anymore. AND rumors say that SOMEONE's shutting down Rooster Teeth, because they really LIKE this take. At least the creators of Teen Titans Go! had made some people laugh AND made the Mario movie a hit. If it was me making an R-Rated Scooby-Doo, I'd make it mystery focus, but still put the REAL meddling kids, AND THEIR DOG, charming and squadding heroes in a dark and flawed world. In other worlds, my show would be a cross between the Mystery Incorporated show and Persona 4 Golden. It didn’t get a second season because people hate it and they complained, the studio heard it and did what the audience wanted for one of the first time in years.
Why is it ok to portray Fred Jones as an incompetent, stupid, weak, outright moronic person based on his wealth and his race? Why didn’t they make Fred black?

    • @Scoobytopia
      @Scoobytopia  Před měsícem +2

I mean, the only reason it got a second season is because they ordered 20 episodes/2 seasons upfront, like most other animated titles such as Harley Quinn these days. It had 2 seasons set no matter what from the time it existed. I mention that fact in the video.
Fred has been portrayed a number of different ways over the last decade to try and give him more to work with, by the end of the 2000s they even were poking fun at the fact that he didn't really have his own catchphrase like the others, which was only rectified by Guess Who more recently giving him his "Hold the phone!" phrase. Mystery Incorporated from 2010-2013 wrote him as autistic with traps as his special interest to give more to him, 13th Ghost went into his background and why he's fit to be leader by default after feeling challenged by Daphne. His characterization in Velma doesn't really come from being rich, so much as from having a mother that didn't properly care, raise or teach him anything, down to his belt never being properly fixed, which is explored in the second season as he has to come to terms with his mommy issues. Between feeling the warmth of a mother for the first time via Diya, and even having a crush on what he believes to be an older woman, he has to confront how he was raised by an absent mom, accept that she wasn't as perfect as he thought and idolized, and finally is able to grow from this after standing up to her spirit. It's okay to portray him as such because it's not a very unusual storyline, or even all that different from any other series or film trying to give a fairly blank character an arc to work with. He has equal daddy issues and a rich/powerful parent the same way in Mystery Incorporated, just as exaggerated as in Velma, but that's never an issue there for anyone.

It’s very much like what I hope for with adult animated comedy shows as it’s a great balance of detailed, bubbly, and still works for the spooky parts. It lends itself well to various aspects of the show.

I’m definitely sad about the ending just because as Velma and Daphne finally admit their love for each other and get things situated in their relationship, Velma dies which could cause Daphne to have trauma of losing her first/true love 😭 I hope that their is a season 3 and that the Halloween special can bring her back so they can be together.

Which like a talking dog can be a good spy because no one would believe the one telling the details is a dog, but super solider that can restand explosions? I am curious if this was always the plan because it seemed they did use feedback but also project scoobi was shown in season 1 and this seems like a twist they would build around. To me the scrappy hate being basically canon is more annoying. I wasn't a fan of scrappy but I think the hate is annoying and it being referenced in official media is bad pandering. This was a massive improvement over season 1. All the edgy jokes that pull me out of the story were replaced with jokes that made more sense for the characters and situations. The characters were also more tolerable (less eating out of garbage bins, less prejudiced, etc) and the love triangles/squares were reduced.
By this point I accepted this is not the Scooby gang/Mystery Inc, so the characters being pretty bad at investigating or working together was not as much of an issue as in season 1. The mystery felt more coherent too. Like most good mysteries, this time it was possible to guess who was who ahead of time.
I was really surprised they decided to kill their main character at the end of the series/season. It would be a really unique way to end this series if they decide to go with it.

I like the Thorne design, my main issue is threefold:
    1. Why is she aged up with a daughter while the Mystery gang is at best the same age and at worst aged down, could they not have just made used Amber's design and called her Thorne? They clearly have no issues with making characters look wildly different than their original designs and that one wouldn't even be as big a leap as, say, Shaggy to Norville. More of a logical failing than a full-on issue.
    2. Where are Dusk and Luna? Those three are inseparable form both a Doylist and Watsonian perspective!
    3. Why is THIS our first appearance of any of the Hex Girls in over a decade? This isn't a good introduction for newcomers and I feel if we had something more akin to the originals then this wouldn't be as egregious or rage-inducing for the haters. In other words, Haunted Highrise shoulda come out and would've actively improved the perception of this show.
There's also the matter that while she isn't a bad design, she may have been intended as one. Considering how meanspirited this show was and (while drastically toned down, thank god) is to some extent, I wouldn't be surprised if they designed the character with the intention of her being either "ugly" or poorly received just because they seem to revel in spite. Like, task failed successfully.

I assume they wanted her to be able to be more retired rather than current, which makes sense in ways. Dusk and Luna probably would have made the cost go up in terms of actors. This isn't our first appearance of the hex girls in over a decade, though, they appeared in a really great episode of Guess Who not long ago! I don't think any of the designs of the show were done with mean spirited nature, the art department of the show has clearly cared and put in above and beyond effort ever since the beginning even when not required. And this season isn't really hateful or mean spirited anymore.

@@Scoobytopia I'll admit I didn't bother with guess who. Didn't scoff it off as automatically trash, it's just even if it was astoundingly well-written the art style is such an afront to my eyes I wouldn't be able to enjoy it.
Though you make a good point, I think that aspect of my point still stands as considering most people skipped on Guess Who as well for the same reason; so I was factually wrong on the objective statement, but the intent of "no one has really seen the Hex Girls in a decade" isn't.

@@Scoobytopia oh, also this is more of a hypothetical, perfect world idea. I mentioned Doylist vs Watsonian perspectives and I'll bring it up once more:
From a monetary, Doylist view you are right on the matter of hiring Dusk and Luna's original VA burning a hole in the show's metaphorical wallet, but from a Watsonian view having the real world interfere with the quality of a piece of art still harms the art and should be seen as a valid point of critique FOR said art.
Eg. Many of Netfilx's shows get cut short to 2 seasons, for the sake of this example I'll mention LWA and Centaurworld as those are favorites of mine. While I understand the showrunners had to work with the two seasons they were given, and did the best they could, I think it's valid to critique the shows over the fact they have many aspects underexplored or rushed do to this. It is a genuine, artistic flaw of the work, brought upon them by corporate meddling (no-pun-intended).

@joghnythegurue2710 it's a shame we didn't get the movie that was going to feature them with new songs, although it would have used the Guess Who style anyway like the sister movie we did get.

@joghnythegurue2710 Scooby has been fraught with corporate meddling since Zombie Island, working on Cyber Chase was such a nightmare that the team that made those four iconic films quit over it, so I guess it's unfortunately just something the franchise will always be dealt, on good products or bad
