Join us on this adventure as we go out onto the mighty Columbia river to go sturgeon fishing, and end up stopping a poacher from killing a baby sturgeon!! Y’all shouldn’t fish for things you don’t know how to handle. Pure stupidity in those releases.
Mind you catch and release sections of water for sturgeon is just dumb in general.
You’re asking to fight a fish more susceptible to exhaustion than any other in the Columbia. Then to top it all off, instead of being able to eat a keeper you’re forced to release it, of which y’all did horribly by the way. Those fish 50-50 shot they died later that day.
@@oak8728 what did we do wrong when releasing them? Genuinely curious because I want to handle them more properly. Taking care of these awesome prehistoric animals is definitely top priority!

Yep, never grab anything by the gills that you want to release.
What is best way to handle freshwater fish you intend to release?
@@jakevondoom4136 If you intend to release the fish, it’s best to not remove the fish from the water if you can avoid it. Get your hands wet to avoid removing the protective slime and hold the “wrist” of the tail and pop the hook out with pliers or forceps with your other hand. Then, gently push the fish forward and backward from the tail until you feel the fish want to swim away.
Gill plate, not the gills, there is a difference. I fish for pike and muskie all the time and that is most definitely the best way to grab them. Watch any pike fisherman on youtube and that is how they handle their fish. And muskie fishermen are among the most delicate and careful fishermen out there. Facts: There is no way im going to attempt to pull a 6" lure with 3 3/0 treble hooks from a 3+ foot fish's mouth unless I have complete control of it's head. Even with pliers you are asking for trouble. Not to mention I normally tournament fish, and you have to take pictures on a ketch board to record your catch. The gill plate is a perfectly safe way to handle a fish. Especially one as slimy as a pike. I do concur with the slime part though. Handle as delicately and as little as possible. Who wants slime on their hands anyways?

@@lamegame420 Touching their gills in general is a fatal injury that lasts several days to take effect. Even if you grab the gill plate, your fingers still touch the gills

Just buy fishing in the Columbia River looks like the Cascade Locks area down from the Bonneville Dam just by looking at the surrounding especially looking at those clouds signature Columbia River Beauty
Bro if you’re ever in the Portland area check out the willamette River for sturgeon. Last weekend we killed it on yaks and inflatables with at least 30+ fish landed throughout the day

I hate poachers. If you get caught poaching once you should lose your license for life. If they get caught without a license they have lost due to poaching minimum 6 months in jail.

he wasnt neccesarly a poacher a poacher is who kills the illegally and who only uses the animal to make money and leaves the carcus he was probobly confused with the laws and regs and i do agree you shouldnt grab fish by the ills unless you attend on keeping it

if i had a big solid plate next to my lungs that's perfectly fine to grab i would let people grab it all the time. if i just got hooked in the mouth and pulled up to the rocks by it that would be the least of my concern.

@@BrianMonticello Ohio, we only have them in lake Erie, you should try and keep your rid tip up a little higher, that maybe why you lost those couple fish in day one of your video, but I am not 100% sure on that. What all types of fish do you have in the Columbia River?

The Hammer Strikes there’s currently a good run of sockeye salmon but there’s also all other types of salmon, trout, sturgeon, shad, and I think most other types of freshwater lake fish interestingly enough. Also maybe sculpin

well got to admit this 3rd one was the best of the 3 I watched. Seriously Brian. You don't need to keep fishing comments from other successful you tubers. It pisses people off cause they know these kids all started off like you and worked hard to be successful. Learn from the Jon Bs, APs, fish slingers; you sure got some potential here. enjoyed the scenery although I'm sure the sh*t fr blm and antif^ dealing you guys some negative vibes (portland). You do tend to show too much line, reel and rod and not enough of the angler, although its pretty good balance in this video. Plant a go pro in the ground for front views or get one of your buddies to film you and be more intense with your delivery. Tell us sh*t ur doing dont just pipe in silent air. Swear you were showing more excitement fishing through the Jon B comments then on your own videos. Maybe your nervous.(I'd be) Sure I'll get roasted but you asked for the advise and i'm giving. It was a kind gesture to not let that man kill the baby stergen fish although there is a rule of catch and release in place but at the same time do you'll ever think about the pain that is being inflicted on this fish just for the mere sport of it. That one fish could possibly be caugh and releasedt by several people within the day. That in itself would be a pretty painful wound with a hook snagging on the flesh of their mouth openings. I'm not judging anyone, just wondering if anyone has thought about that.

Good job telling them the regs, just think how many people are doing this that one: get away with it, and two: just simply do not know. Definitely one of the worst things you can do is a lift a fish up by its gill plate if planning to release. Also shouldn't have it out of the water.
