I originally started on Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2, and heard this. Now I've just finished Trails In the Sky Trilogy and started the Crossbell Arc. Finally got to listen to this track again in the first dungeon. After I finish the Crossbell Arc, I'll move onto Cold Steel 3. This is the best JRPG series ever. Lore, battle mechanics, and music.

Barnaoui Mouad Don’t get me wrong, those are great franchises. But the interconnectivity of the entire Kiseki series of Trails trilogy, Crossbell duology, , Cold Steel quadrilogy, and ultimately Hajimari No Kiseki is quite unrivaled in the JRPG genre. The depth of character development, lore and simple yet evolving gameplay is truly incredible. Even more incredible is the consistency. Can we honestly say that about DQ, Suikoden and FF?

@@nickmaestro i think you're right, as a whole legend of heroes is superior because it wins by number.
Yet, i think that for example FF9 or Dragon quest 8 are easily much better than any LOH game released so far,
It saddens me that Final Fantasy has left the race and went towards something different, beat em all, I don't have any hope for ff16, but i do have hopes for the dragon quest and Persona series as they always tend to keep the roots intangible.
I love LOH but I'm still waiting for THAT game that'll change my mind, oppositely to FF series, i have high hopes for LOH series!

    • @nickmaestro

@@CZcams_Account_00 As a standalone JRPG, there are so many other Square Enix gems. Valkyrie Profile, Xenogears, Final Fantasy XII, Nier Automata, Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. Heck, even the original Final Fantasy II is a hidden gem. The battle system is strange but you can get OP very early in the game, however the music and story are incredible.
Now I would argue that Ao No Kiseki (Trails to Azure) is better than many Final Fantasy titles, that's if you like crime, political, and real world thrillers. That game was off the rails.

Classical musician here. This song fascinated the fuck out of me. It places emphasis on beat TWO with the dotted-eighth-sixteenth figure that defines this piece. In a typical piece of pop music, this is normal. However, this piece retains classical structure, placing emphasis on beats ONE and THREE.
This piece is in conflict with itself in a genius way. The classical structure is trying to "pull back" the song to the more traditional ONE and THREE emphasis, yet the melody is screaming two and four.
Much like the Erebonian Empire is pulling on Crossbell and Crossbell is telling the Empire to go fuck itself.

In both cases, you are going to miss out on crazy minute details if you don't.
for example, in CS3, there's a sidequest in Crossbell regarding the Business Owners Association. You end up talking to Becky and and Linde during this sidequest. Right after dealing with the actual quest objective, if you talk to Becky, she'll say something about how she hasn't been in Crossbell long, but the first thing she did was put Linde in charge of ordering supplies at St. Ursula. If you haven't played Zero/Ao or don't remember them well, you'll be like, "okay great." But if you HAVE, you will probably ROFL because you remember the nurse who USED to be in charge of that ordering 500 linens instead of 50 and getting blamed for a mis-delivered shipment of stuff not being medical supplies afterward, and you'll know WHY Becky felt that Linde should be in charge of that job.
Similarly, in Heimdallr, on Vesta Street, at one point you will encounter Lafite bakery. Go inside and you'll meet their understudy. Some dude named Oscar or something. If you haven't played Zero/Ao you'll think, "okay, whatevs." But if you HAVE, you'll be like, "Oscar~ whatcha doin' in Erebonia bro? Don't you live in Crossbell working for your adopted dad Morges baking novel breads? And for that matter, how is Bennet doing? She still playing tsundere not admitting her feels for you?" Then you come back at night and see Bennet creeping outside the bakery, looking in the window crying over how Oscar is getting all of another girl's attention. And you know Bennet is going to go home to her hotel room and sob herself to sleep that night.
Oh and that one time you found a lost kitten and some red constellation member helped you find it? You would have 100% seen that coming if you'd played Ao first. As surely as she's surly, Shirley loves cats, and it's not the first time she's helped find one.
You can definitely follow the plot for CS3 and probably even 4 without playing Sky & Crossbell first, but you won't even know what you're missing in terms of the small stuff and you won't have the emotional baggage that other players have for the plots that you've only seen summarized or heard recounted in the game. I'm really glad that I watched LP's of Sky before I jumped into Cold Steel so that I'm actually really hyped to see Estelle and Joshua again in a few months. I haven't seen them since they were running around helping out the Hayworths, and they feel like old friends.

I wouldn't know how important her role is, since I only have the PSP versions imported from Japan, and I can't understand Japanese fleuently, only names in hiragana/katakana and a few simple words. I'm also only on Chapter 2 of Zero no Kiseki, so I haven't gotten to Ao yet. So far, all I've seen of Rixia is that she is a stage performer in the theater group, Arc-en-ciel. As for if it's on Steam, Zero was released for PC in both Japan and China, while Ao has only been released on PC in China up to this point, according to Wikipedia.
