  • The other day it occurred to me that I have never posted a video exclusively of the Stone Mountain Loop Trail. I decided it was time. Join me on a 4.5 mile hike around the most popular trail at Stone Mountain State Park in North Carolina. Enjoy the views of a homestead, waterfalls, summit views, and wildlife along the trail (with a flashback to a rattlesnake encounter this summer).
    Video shot with Sony A6400 and with a Zhiyun Crane Plus gimbal.

    Beautiful place! The homestead, the falls, everything but the stairs. They reminded me a bit of the stairs at South Mountains State Park.

      Sutherland Outdoors thank you. I struggled more with the stairs at South, but I had a full pack with winter gear when I did that one. Yes. Very similar indeed. Hope you’re having a great weekend!

I recommend going up the stairs side of the loop trail if your up for it, it's a great workout. Remember, no stopping. ha

      The steps by the waterfall is the easy way :-P The best way to hike it is from the lower lot... straight up the mountain, down the steps to the waterfall, and then turn around and go back the way you came. Leg burner. Your name sounds familiar... were you into pumping iron back in the day; late 80s early 90s?

    • @KeeFrHikes

      There are 4 backpacking sites on the north side of the mountain, look up a map and these sites will be on the Widow Creek Trail. They’re pay by the night and no reservation system.

      Teresa hikes I get my fastest times when I go the direction you went but starting at the lower parking lot. That way I’m able to knock out the ascent first thing and enjoy the flats and downs the remainder of the hike.

      A 30 minute pace would put you at two and a half hours. Add in how much ever time you need to take in the views. Carve 3 hours out for the hike and you should be good.

    Looking to getting into hiking what do you normally carry in your backpack?

    • @KeeFrHikes
      @KeeFrHikes  Před 4 lety +1

      In my daypack I carry the basics... first aid, water, snacks, and headlamp. For backpacking the same but add tent, sleeping pad, quilt, knife, bear canister or bear bag (depending on where I'm backpacking), and an MSR stove.
