Instead of using strike anywhere matches, you can use normal safety matches. It's called Armstrong's mix and here's how to make it: 1. Get big pliers, a knife, a cotton pad, a sieve and a razor blade 2. Take a full box of matches, make sure it's closed and squeeze the end of the box that has the matches with the pliers, open the box and pour out the powder, you may clean the rest off with your fingernails (I usually don't, matches are really cheap) 3. Put that powder on a full sheet of paper and grind the powder with the knife multiple times. 4. Get the fine powder and sieve it to remove any wood from using the pliers, grind it more with the knife (press the knife sideways on the paper and go over the powder) _you now have match powder, it won't ignite from shock but it can replace gunpowder and make firecrackers out of it_ 5. Get your empty match boxes and wet the phosphorus bands on the sides with the cotton pad, wait a few seconds and then go almost horizontal with the blade on the box, at first, it won't work well, but you'll get the feel. Put the strips of phosphorus on a plate (throw away any piece that has cardboard on it) 5. When you have the plate full of phosphorus strips, leave it to dry. 6. Your phosphorus is now dry and ready to grind, I usually cut it into small small pieces with my knife and then grind it with the knife normally. You can use what the guy used in the video. 7. You have the fine match powder, fine phosphorus, if you feel brave, mix it all together, if not, mix it as you need it. *Your Armstrong's mix is now done! You may use it for percussion caps or even firecrackers, it burns faster than gunpowder! (I can explain why gunpowder is better though, just leave a reply here)*
I just tried it... one head and some dry scrapping on the side of the box, at the fourth hit it detonated, surprised the hell out of me. Love the smell! Will try to make a paste with water or alcohool to make the cap. Thanks for your tip!
Made my own “fireworks” years ago by making my own gunpowder, it’s actually scary how easy it is to buy large amounts of potassium nitrate or Kn03 as it’s shown on websites and the other two ingredients are also easy to find , i progressed from small copper piping with hammering the ends shut with hole drilled in middle for fuse to bigger thicker pipes and the magnificent end product was my favourite which was a fire extinguisher which a lot of people don’t know when empty can be screwed open with the nozzle and end cap leaving you with a sizeable “firework” lol took me days to grind up the 1kg of gunpowder to fill it halfway ! Fully filled would not be necessary for maximum effect , i made the fuse about 4 ft long as haha overkill I know but was eager to get the hell away when i lit that thing ! It was enormous and before i blew it up was planning on progressing to the bigger fire extinguishers but the half size was enough for me ! Anyway please anyone reading *BE CAREFUL PLEASE* and live another day to have fun ! 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽😁
@@nxibbabecause it burns slower, the match powder especially as a fine powder burns extremely fast, I’ve tested equal parts match head powder and gun powder from blanks, the match head powder burned extremely quickly while even the blank powder burned way slower

@@Nativeboi2119 I've thought about it cause I am a fan of black powder revolvers myself. I put one in the nipple once and it fired just like a Cap would so I would assume it would work, results may Vary😅
For anyone wondering, this is essentially how those Dollar Store cap-guns work. They have small amounts of powder inside of a light plastic or paper casing, similar to the ones shown in this video.
I wonder if you could make the powder into a paste using something like alcohol or acetone, and let it dry inside the cap, eliminating the need for the wadding. It would likely improve your ignition rates.
Hey cool video I used your technique and modified the aluminum foil to go ove a hex head threaded pipe fitting using strike anywhere matchheads but i needed 10 tips for cap that size its hard to get nipples i have a po. Box instead of street address
I used to make this stuff all the time a few years ago. Be very careful and only do a small amount (a few match heads) at a time - I thought "I've done this so many times and never had a problem, so it should be fine if I double/triple the amount of match heads" - stupid idea! the powder ignited while i was grinding it fine. I thought I was careful enough, unfortunately this was not the case. Thanks to safety goggles and gloves I got away with a small scare.
No foil under the cap. The powder sits in the foil like a bowl. You placed a thin piece of tissue paper over the powder so it doesn't spill when you place the cap on the nipple of the gun. The tissue paper doesn't effect the charge or amount of fire that goes into the barrel. I've tested it a few times in the past and the gun is still able to fire.
It really depends, especially on the amount of powder you have in the cap. I've put the match powder in the barrel and used a match percussion cap. Sometimes with minimal powder it ignites the powder in the barrel. Other times I've packed the percussion cap and no ignition. It's more alot more dependent on the quality of the cap, and the opening on the nipple.
Jonas Strzyz not really, handloaders or reloader enthusiasts use it from time to time. Is is a surprisingly adequate substitute for powder in a doomsday scenario but for all intents and purposes is far better used as the primer rather than propellant, mostly because it is shock sensitive where most propellants are not.
All I know is its a New Orleans Percussion cap pistol. My dad gave it to me many years ago and he lost all the specific information on it. I'd estimate the caliber is about .40
Do you have more info on make and history of this model gun? I also have the same pocket pistol, and found it on a beach in surfside tx. Any info would be much appreciated of origin and where these were made, thank you!!
Questions for Science Thanks! I have been looking so hard to find out what kind of gun I received from my deceased grandfather. Lo and behold you're shooting it on CZcams! Thank you so much!
No. You're not making or modifying a firearm. Think of it like you're reloading ammo casings. So long as you don't sell your homemade caps, it's above-board. By the way, the Anarchist's Cook Book is almost completely outdated and incorrect. A lot of the substances and techniques in the book will either not work or will hurt you. The author even admitted so in interviews.
I have tested this and it does, however you have to get the amount in the cap just right. I only bothered to get it to go off from shock, but not ignite additional powder.
This is extremely dangerous. These methods are seen in use in Africa a lot and have a bad and I mean bad habit of exploding during the manufacturing process that usually kills or injures the maker/operator .

Do you know those Toy red caps will those work in muzzleloading

By far the best and simplest technique I’ve seen for making the percussion caps! Thank you.
Just buy prime all

Ether was used for smokeless powder, maybe it will work here as well
@@elusiveshadow5848 Good luck getting ether, its on the DEA precursor watch list.
You could use distilled water. Just like black powder. Make a thick solution. Eye drop your caps and let them dry. No accidental explosions! :)
Great knowledge on the science behind percussion caps. Thanks for sharing.
I love your videos, they are very brief and your voice makes it better. More videos please
thank you!
Thanks, I appreciate your quick response. I did think it was a 41 call. Shoot em up bud!!!
If you can not buy strike anywhere matches, simply scrape the powder off the side of the matchbook and mix it in to the powder from the match head.
Don't even know what a percussion cap is but I know how to make it now. Lol
axl rose percussion cap is for black powder rifles or pistols its the thing that sits undre the hammer to light up the powder
axl rose yeah instead of putting powder in the pan
I think my heart skipped with that first pop. 😂 Love the "homemade" signs. Thanks! I'm off to catch up on your videos. ✌🏻💟😁🔬🇺🇸

I have that same pistol thanks for the hack too it worked perfectly
Glad to hear!
Where can you get it?
Kachel from Dixie Gun Works it’s called the “New Orleans Ace Pistol”
Ahh but does it actually ignite a charged load? i.e. does it actually work as a valid primer in a powder and shot discharge scenario?
I used to make this stuff all the time a few years ago. Be very careful and only do a small amount (a few match heads) at a time - I thought "I've done this so many times and never had a problem, so it should be fine if I double/triple the amount of match heads" - stupid idea!

I'm Brazilian and I could not understand what you said. What are these white pebbles used together with the match?
where can i purchase a percussion caps?

So the spark can go though the foil and ignite the powder inside? How is it gonna ignite it if you put foil under the cap?
No foil under the cap. The powder sits in the foil like a bowl. You placed a thin piece of tissue paper over the powder so it doesn't spill when you place the cap on the nipple of the gun. The tissue paper doesn't effect the charge or amount of fire that goes into the barrel. I've tested it a few times in the past and the gun is still able to fire.
why is the cool video so veiwless
Does it throw enough fire to ignite the powder charge?
It really depends, especially on the amount of powder you have in the cap. I've put the match powder in the barrel and used a match percussion cap. What size ball doest ha gun use in the video? Tanks
.40 caliber
What's the make and modle of your little percussion cap?
not sure of the year, maybe 1864, New Orleans Ace Percussion Cap, .40 caliber
Is it possible to get the little gun on amazon
I think not. But I'm not completely sure. I life/live in Germany, where you can barely get any weapon.
Use non ferrous metal or pottery mortar and pestle.
Could the reaction be used to propel projectiles?
Jessey Wallerdiemont yes
Leo VonGames thanks
Yes with a propellant, like black powder which is stored in the inner cavity of the barrel
Can this be done with safety-matches as well?
Probably would work with box's side ground into it too
