  • A parking company has been found trying to charge people to park on their own land.
Furious homeowners in Maidstone, Kent, say they've been threatened with £100 fines if they refuse to pay.
Barrister and Broadcaster Andrew Eborn says: “It's absolutely outrageous.”
He explains that property owners have exclusive rights to use their land and if someone else does, they are trespassing, which can be subject to civil and sometimes criminal action.
Ian Collins thinks the car parking industry is lawless and has not been regulated particularly well, saying: "It still seems like a foggy area."

If it’s private land and a private company, simply don’t pay , they have no jurisdiction. They hassle you with letters then eventually give up. I always ignore them totally and it never goes anywhere. Done this about five times now

I was at a service station on my way to my parents last year. i stopped south bound for 1hr ish as it was a long drive and had some lunch. then the next day i did the same on the north bound. I got a penalty as they had spliced the two days together to try and say i had stayed 4hrs. then they bully you. So you send them the proof and the fact i was shown in another place at the time. you have to threaten court. They then backed down. But i still got them into court, they only had to pay costs but the impression is they do that all the time. basically scammers.

I remember watching That's Life in 1974 talking about private car parks, says something about this country, when the government had had 48 years to sort it out, welcome to broken Britain, nothing works, and nothing ever get sorted

Spend your tourist money anywhere BUT Bournemouth. And the same goes for town carparks.. .. if they have a high price, go elsewhere or to a Tesco etc.. .. then the council will moan that their high-street is either dead or full of bookies and charity shops

It should be capped at a £20 fine!

I sometimes get the train in my city.
The fine for not paying a ticket went up from £20 to £100.
You only have 21 days to pay it.
Despite knowing the majority of people being paid monthly (28+days)
    I think it’s so sly!

A true story from me. My wife and I lived and owned our property with shares in the leasehold as all residents did. Our Management Company (Cosgroves) decided to bring in a parking company to manage our parking spaces to prevent trespassing. What they actually did was fine us residents if our cars were not clean, had damage or were parked in visitors spaces. We would park in a visitors space so our visitors could park in ours. We always did this. They gave parking fines to visitors and they gave out fines if cars were just there and not being used as an elderly couple next door to us received. They could drive anymore.
One day, the parking enforcer LOL from Countrywide parked in the space next to my allotted property and went around looking to give out tickets. I was a little bit pissed off so when he wasn't looking I folded up all his wipers. Two front windscreen wipers and the one on the back. Don't get mad, get even. 100% True. Not long after this my wife and I left and bought a house with a drive. Couldn't be having a management company come to take over our property and have one of their pals dish out tickets to us on our private land.

The government so called that is,opted out of any regulation of the largely rapacious private parking companies under pressure from the very same companies.

Just to clarify, a 'parking ticket' (penalty charge notice) is usually local authority land backed by legislation whereas a 'parking charge notice' is an invoice for a claim for breach of contract from a private company. They only have 14 business days from the alleged breach to issue the invoice if details are sent through the post without leaving a 'ticket' on the vehicle (ANPR). The terms must be visible and not misleading ..

Me and my Dad were driving in his van and the engine warning light came on.We stopped by the side of the road and his rear tyre was just touching the double yellow line. Lifted the bonnet and found nothing wrong that we could see. Next thing he gets a fine for parking on double yellow. Refused pay and eventually they cancelled the ticket. Just goes to show how the whole thing is.

I pointed out that the car next to mine was 15 minutes over time

9/10 the hassle can be easily avoided by not parking like a knob and not overstaying -- its quite easy most of the time to avoid these

I got a ‘ticket’ for parking at a car park that doesn’t exist 🤷🏻‍♂️ nice try but I fear how many others have just paid without question especially as my car is a Motorbility car which I assumed is why they tried their luck with my car
