- Churuli (Malayalam: ചുരുളി; transl. Rolled Up) is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language science fiction horror film directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery and written by S. Hareesh, starring Vinay Forrt, Chemban Vinod Jose, Joju George, Soubin Shahir and Jaffar Idukki in key roles. The film was produced by Lijo Jose Pellissery and Chemban Vinod Jose under the banner of Movie Monastery and Chembosky Motion Pictures, with Jesto Varghese, O Thomas Panicker and Naushad Salahudin as co-producers. The original story and characters are based on a short story Kaligeminarile Kuttavalikal from the book Mullaranjanam written by Vinoy Thomas.
Churuli tells the story of two undercover police officers who search for a wanted criminal known as Mayiladumparambil Joy. However, they find themselves stuck in the village of Churuli as eerie mysteries unfold. The film premiered at IFFK on 11 February 2021. It was later released via OTT platform Sony LIV on 19 November 2021.

I think Perumadan spirit's story is shown in the movie to show the reaction of the villagers who didn't have access to most of the scientific knowledge that the viewers may have. Hence, I conclude that this movie is a sci-fi (cosmic) horror.

I was wondering about why no one is talking about this movie. I had to watch it twice and one more time in a speed run to understand what was really happening. I even challenged my friends a full treat if they explain the movie's content in a first time watch. They all failed lol. But this movi e was goddamn amazing. Blown my mind. Okay tbh the movie is quite confusing...and there isn't proper story as such...I felt like the writer and the director got confused while executing this movie...I can say that it has been influenced by some western sci-fi movies such as spiral...though that movie fall under the category of psycological horror...u have done a great job 👍👍 keep it up ❤
no . this movie is inspired from real incidents , 2 police men went to capture a rape case suspect in a remote village. the village is a settlement of ran away people who committed various crimes . 2 policemen started enjoying because there were no law and order in that village because its recidance where criminals . finally when they arrive to arrest the suspect , he was paralysed below waste because of an accident . this much is true story but the added fictional and super natural elements to it . for me this movie was wonderfull and creative

I think the creatures are most likely aliens residing in the forest to do research on humans hence being the main reason why people who went into the forest never returned.
The villagers are probably hypnotized and only do what the aliens tell them to do such as, Shajeevan and Antony might be the only police officers who ever came to the village in search of Joy but realised the presence of aliens in the process also being the reason why the villagers hate police.
Also,Joy might be the leader of aliens who got fascinated by the officers because perhaps they were the only ones who knew the reality of the forest aliens and that is why he trapped them into a time loop so nobody can ever know the aliens exist , making it possible for them to do their research peacefully.
