- Going on a tour of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” locations, all found in and around San Francisco.
1) Union Square, at the corner of Geary and Powell streets. It’s the opening shot of the movie where we’re introduced to Melanie Daniels (Tippi Hedren)
2) Bay Hill road, the scenic drive Melanie takes to reach Bodega Bay.
3) The Tides Restaurant in Bodega Bay, site of the infamous bird assault on the town.
4) The Bodega Bay docks where Melanie Daniels rents a boat and is then pecked by a seagull.
5) The Potter School House, the “Bodega Bay School” in the movie, where the children are viciously attacked by the homocidal birds.

I lived in Sebastopol when this film came out. A couple of my brothers' classmates were in the classroom in the movie and a couple of my parents' friends were in the restaurant for the movie as well. They weren't actors, but people, who were there at the time of the making of the movie and included in the scenes.
The water tower in the left & back of the schoolhouse - we converted it to a dwelling where I lived in '77 & '78. Such a beautiful area & charming, small town of Bodega. Much memorabilia of the movie around the town. I miss it!
Really well put together!!! I really enjoyed this. I just visited the church and potter house today and it was awesome!
Awesome!
I just stayed at the inn at the tides and asked a gentleman at the desk if the Gas Station next door was the same one during the explosion. I was told it was filmed across the bay on the western side at a location called Mason Marina (2:26). The station was built by the studio just for the movie.
Cool! Did not know that.
very good, and the last scene was incredible! lol
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
One of the better jobs of seamlessly including the footage from the movie. Well done.
I grew up in Bodega Bay and know the area very well. I believe some of the town scenes were filmed in Point Reyes Station.
Thanks for another great presentation. These Hitchcock-related pieces are especially enjoyable for me because of my interest in Hitchcock. Your presentation of the locations for Psycho was another one I enjoyed especially because of your clever use of Herrmann's musical cues from the film. Of course, since Hitchcock didn't use any incidental music in "The Birds" (Bernard Herrmann is credited as "Sound Consultant,") you threw in some of Herrmann's unforgettable musical cues from Vertigo and Psycho, also masterpieces. The only unique piece in the movie is the custom version of "Risselty Rosselty" being sung by the children, which you included. Anyway, thanks again for devoting your time and talents to these videos. You did a good job!
Well done. What a great ending. And thanks for the clip from the movie that reminded me that Suzanne Pleshette was in the film. I had completely forgotten that. And as someone who lives in L.A., it's not unusual to see scenes stitched together from different locations. I often see scenes in CSI: Miami where they're leaving a marina (actually Marina del Rey, CA) and next thing you know they're on a causeway in Biscayne Bay (an actual location shot in Florida). Ah the magic of Hollywood.
you’ve done a great job with this genre
thanks for breaking all of the scenes down! so insightful
Another terrifically produced and presented video. Brilliant. Many thanks.
This was very interesting. It's weird and somewhat backwards from what we normally see in that in the 1960's the land was baron behind the school house and now there are huge trees there.
Thanks! Yes, I noticed that too.
The trees near the school are very big. Weird how much they have grown since the 60s, or is that just my impression? They seriously should have left the playground equipment up for nostalgia.
Fantastic! You pick really good films to talk about.
Thanks! It's great to visit the locations from the classics. 🦅
Fantastic , really interesting to see things like this especially of films such as The Birds one of my all time favourites and a regular re-watch . After such a long time as well .That last bit was great , really funny , you couldn't resist 🤣
🦅🦅🦅
Nicely done from filming to editing and presenting to all of us "The Historic Locations of "THE BIRDS". This video deserves millions of Views.
Thanks!
You did a good job explaining everything. I was 6 when "The Birds" came out, lived in Nor Cal about 80 miles from Bodega Bay, I remember it well, a movie about my family. I don't think all the footage of Tippi Hedren driving from SF to BB in her Aston Martin was on Bay Road, but most of it was.
That was great. Liked the way new and old are blended together. Been to Bodega and Bodega Bay dozens of times. Thanks for a great video.
Glad you like it! More to come...
This was great , thanks for this interesting step back in time!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, you did a great job on this! I was in Bodega Bay 11 years ago and ate in the Tides restaurant. The food was very good. Tippi had been there the week before signing autographs and photos, darn I just missed her! I also went to the inland town where the school house is located and it looked great, just as I remembered it as a little kid! I understand before Hitchcock put it in his movie there were plans to tear it down. This movie scared the hell out of me as a young boy and even today that attic scene makes me squirm! And FYI, your ending just cracked me up!
Thanks for your comment! Glad you liked it!
Another excellent production, really looking forward to more. Your a natural at this
Thank you, working on Star Trek 4 and Vertigo next.
Good job, very thorough.
Great video. Thanks for sharing this information.
Great research and love the ending😄
That was very well done!
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
The fishing pier was down the road and a few years ago was still being used but is in ruins now. This pier was also used in a "Hart to Hart" TV movie, with a park in front of it and the building across from the pier, up against the San Andreas fault.
😂😂😂The last scene is hysterical! Great video.😷
Well done. Thank you for the trip to the locations and the Bay. I'd like to live in the Bodega Bay created for the movie.
Great video! I did the same comparisons on Google several months ago but this is way better. I always put this movie on when I want to take a quick nap bc Tippi’s voice is so soothing. I usually wake up when the school kids start singing that annoying song. 😅
I’ve never tried that, I wonder if it would work for me too. Those kids would definitely wake me up, if not the singing then the screaming.
@@Protokino Haha exactly!
Sensational research. Congrats
Thanks!
Thank you. Very interesting.

Greetings from Bodega Bay. Nicely done. It’s fascinating to learn what was filmed here. What is still here. And what was filmed at the studio
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!

You're doing a great job!! Great channel concept!! Cheers from Cincinnati! Actually, the last ten years have been good to the Cincinnati area in terms of filmmaking. Put us on your list. One flight and easily ten videos worth of content here.

@@Protokino you’re welcome! Why didn’t you go to the Brenner house? Do you have any idea who owns it? Maybe it’s a bed and breakfast???
Omg! This is a very nice video
Glad you like it!
thank you for your vidéo, i like the birds, it's scared movie over the time, salutations of France, encore merci 👍
Il n'y a pas de quoi!
Great movie beatiful Bodega bay
Crazy scary as a kid. I remember years later I went to the Watkins Glen music fest. it was 3 times as many people as Woodstock. It was July 2 1973. We brought a small tent and opening the flaps looking at 600,000 people I would describe like the movie the birds like the door opens to see all them birds (people)
As kids 6&7 yrs old in 1963, we truly enjoyed BIRDS.
que legal eu adoro esse filme , Os pássaros
Great ending to your vlog lol
adorei seu vídeo finalizou com suspense e bom humor kkkkkk
nice
Very funny ending 😅😅😂😂😂
Were there other movies made in this location I think there was and one was filmed not to far from this point wasn't This Island Eath shot around the location or was it Earth vs The UFOs there is a place very similar to the road in the movie were she is driving towards the sea and town? And I think there's the Mel Brook film made in most of the same places forgot the name? And has appeared on TV in quite a few episodes of the X Files mostly the other side of the water? And a few episodes of Supernatural were filmed there?
Bodega Bay I'm not to far from there an hour and a half away
I absolutely love the Coast and The Birds Fort Bragg has some movie history itself like The Fog and the Howling and few other films
Excellent video! I always like these revisits of film locations. I have watched a number of Hitchcock films. They seem rather bland and flat to me. However, your video I enjoyed a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Next, can you make a video of filming locations for the reboot of this movie? It’s an independent film called Birdemic and was released in 2010.
I always thought this was filmed in New England.
Please do la Bamba or buddy Holly locations from the movies 😃
The Brenner house isn't there anymore and i'm surprised that you didn't go there to check out things for yourself and film it.
Oskar Sala with the Trautonium the sound Designer for the birds
Hitchcock visit him in Germany during the production ☝️🤣
Been there done that
💔💔💔
My cousins lived in Rohnert Park in the 60s they took us to the movie site in Bodega Bay in 66 in a station wagon I think it was either a 60 or 61 DeSoto or a Chrysler Station Wagon? And we sat in the back by the by the tailgate all the way but when you're young you don't take into account the history and take pictures of everything because going back later it's totally ruined the whole town could have kept the town just like it was and the restaurant but people are so stupid they want to go out with the old in with the new crap! Or if the kids inherit it then they don't want the old s*** so they left modernize it and make it our way so they ruin it for everybody and there's no no reason to go back there because nothing is there it's either remodeled overgrown torn down because they don't want to reminder or idiot developers or contractors which are the worst or somebody that buys a house from some other place and they come over there and they don't want the old s*** or don't care that the movie was there and then they remodel the whole thing or tear it down and put up some new shitt those are the worst kind of people but I should have took lots of pictures back in the 60s when we were down there I sure would have liked to seen it then at this age to enjoy it
Freaky CZcams mind reading algorithm brought me here.
It somehow sensed that just 3 hours prior, I saw live on the air TV (not on the internet or cable) a story regarding the nearby house that is for sale:
czcams.com/video/xXizIjBwHyk/video.html
(It's supposedly featured in the movie, but I don't see it in either video)
Maybe it was recommended cuz I sometimes watch clips of my morning news?
San Francisco was one of my favorite cities! Beautiful! It is more than a crying shame what Democrats have let happen there and all over california!!
The restaurant that she goes in to, is no longer there. That was a separate building from the Tides and has long been torn down.
