You dont have to agree with me, but it was the best match of this World Cup in my opinion and i watched almost every. It's also the best match of Romania i have ever seen, perhaps better than clash against Argentina in 1994. I will never forget incredible performance of Silviu Lung. Lacatus played great as well. Hats off Romania 🇷🇴!!

Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Soviet Union, Hungary, etc. With the fall of the iron curtain, the football in those countries also fell apart. The same thing happened in ice hockey.

I remember watching this game. I honestly think USSR missed Belanov. He wasn't picked for some reason for this World Cup. So many shots just missing the target or straight at the goalkeeper. The USSR just misfired. I also took exception to the kit. It didn't have CCCP on it, which just didn't make it feel right. The penalty was just a laughable decision.
Back then, the USSR republics began breaking away. The players played with no spirit
USSR totally missed their games against Romania and Argentina. An english commentator said about USSR against Cameroon : "It was the only game USSR played at their full potential".

How could a referee be so sure that this handball was inside the penalty area without referring to the linesman ?
Slow motion replay shows clearly that it was outside the penalty area .. that should have been a free kick not penalty kick ..

Именно. Состав был далеко не идеален. Тяжелую травму получил основной "хав" Михайличенко, из за этого мы не увидели их тандем с Добровольским, которые , практически, вдвоем выиграли золото Сеула за два года до этого. И еще, наверное, Лобановскому нужно было включать в состав больше игроков молодежной Сборной СССР , которая выиграла в том году Чемпионат Европы, обыграв в финале мощную и звездную Югославию. А у СФРЮ на итальянский Мундиаль поехало много игроков из той, молодежной Сборной. И они дошли до 1/4 финала, где лишь в серии пенальти уступили "экс" и "вице" чемпионам мира - аргентинцам... Жаль
