One of the hardest things to do on the guitar imo
fazeel ashraf Why? Do you mean as you're bending, or just a Vibrato?
vibrating a bend. I agree, it's hard as hell to keep it in tune and make it sound sweet
This and Pinch Harmonics haha
@@kevinn4038 i feel you man, i wish i could have practiced this when i was starting out.

*SIMPLY VIBRATING A SINGLE STRING BEND AND MAKING IT SOUND CLEAN*
nope, can’t do that apparently
Intonated bends and vibrato bends are the 2 things that can take your playing to that next level especially as a blues player. Having perfect intonation on your bends and being able to pull of some vibrato can make really simple playing feel and sound extremely professional.
Very true! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing your knowledge! :-)

Ok let's all agree that Steve Steine is the best teacher on youtube.
I owe him almost all my progress in guitar playing.
George Jabbour very true, but I wish I could fly around as fast as him!
Cough Cough* Marty Schwartz
Marty isn’t specific enough. A lot he just says “you do this” without explaining it
@@polyo4038 I just found this guy, gotta say, he is a master teacher. MArty is good, but Steve Stine is next level. Its like he was born to be a guitar teacher.
steve has a video for everything just when you need it!
B.B. King used to do his signature vibrato after the bend when he would hit the straight resolve note at the end of the riff. Listen to just about any of his solos and you’ll hear it. Too cool sounding!!
I've found downward bends vibrates are so easy but upward bend vibrates are a kick in my ass
Big facts
hahahahahaa @4:10...those harmonics (squealies) can make ya smile!

Excellent lesson, thank you!!
La mejor explicación que he visto, gracias 🤘🏻🔥🇵🇦
I love it when he hears something and trails off in thought.
Great video Steve! You are the best man!
I found this really helpful . Thanks
Great lesson. This technique is one of the most difficult for me to pull off - takes a great deal of practice.
Love that unplanned harmonic! 😎
Just what I need thank you
You are a talented teacher
I am your superb fan...you are a good teacher...
Great video Steve. I would also encourage you to make a part two video of using the wammy bar. I understand it won't be as beneficial to learning with your fingers because it's like cheating the system but for an altered effect, the wammy could also be incorporated for certain situations that might call for it. Thanks for your videos!
Awesome as always. You've really helped me with my playing and practicing. Too bad you weren't around when I started playing years ago...
It the way Steve explains the techniques... its just what I was looking for but didn't find it anywhere else.
vibrato on the high e is so hard
Not really. I don't do vibrato up and down like Steve is showing. I do it side to side in line with the string.
indeed, same with bends for me, sometimes I think that the string is gonna break
I'm a bit late. Yeah, vibrato on there is difficult, but if you shake your guitar to assist, it'll help you achieve for easier. Also looks cool.
@@oyc7946 That's called "classical vibrato", but it doesn't work that well with rock or blues guitar. It isn't quite loud enough.
You can do a horizontal vibrato, just act like ur hands are having some earthquake on it.
Really cool stuff. You should make a video on bending and adding hammer on and pull offs. I've been having a hard time getting those perfect.
Well said.
Holy that PRS is nice as hell
Thanks.
You are my favourite one 🔥🙏
That is exactly what I was thinking about today... hahah you read my mind.
very informational sir, at first I thought playing vibrato while bending was going up and back to the desired pitch. I was wrong all along haha
I love that sound, What pedals do you use to get that effect. Thanks, Ron
3:01, 4:27 yep that's me :D
Ha!
Great lesson Steve! This cleared up so much confusion for me. I've never quite able to figure out how to tag a bend with a vibrato, even though it's one of my most coveted techniques. You made it so easy to understand and im finally able to do vibrato and vibrato bends. I was curious though as to what your advice is on understanding the same principles once you incorporate a beat or time? I ask because when I'm improving over backing tracks with friends, i feel like that speed of the vibrato or tremolo effect never sounds quite in time when im playing, but when my friend plays and uses these techniques, a HUGE part of what sounds so amazing, (he's a very very adept player), is how his bends and even vibrato alone is so tight and in time with the music. I wasn't sure if this begins to occur naturally over time almost subconsciously or if i should be practicing the vibrato speed using a metronome?
Thanks for another epic lesson and video!
I realise this is an old comment but one idea is to record yourself improvising and using any techniques that you feel you are deficient in. You may be surprised at how they sound, because when you are playing them you brain is concentrating on more than just listening to the notes. You may sound better than you realise. It's for this reason that it's a good idea when buying a new guitar to have someone else play it, so you can just "listen", rather than concentrate on listening AND playing.
What pedal are you using to get your tone , it's sounds great.
very helpful lesson. i’m slowly but surely getting better at this technique. I’d Have You Anytime by George Harrison is a great song to practice this with!

I struggle with the technique of a vibrato while bending. I do not know where to initiate the bend, wrist or fingers, if I do it with wrist like normal vibrato, I lose sustain and pressure on the string and get a dead note
nice PRS
Wow I've never heard such a good explanation of how this works. Sometimes when I bend up my finger also grabs the string above the one I am bending and after the vibrato is done, it releases that string with a twang. Any suggestions on fixing that? Thanks!
I never gone into whole bends with vibratos on top in all my years of playing, but now i am gettting into it. I just dropped tunings on all my guitars half step down, to ease up things a bit. It's hard to get that thing right, sometimes i get it right, other time not, etc. It's achiavable to me on third string, but i still struggle on first e and b strings.
Hi! Thanks for your comment and for sharing! Keep up the great work!
Steve, I've been playing a couple of years but i find I struggle to bend to pitch when I have no reference tone. If i pluck a note first and then bend up to it, I'm ok, but if i just bend a string I have no idea what im aiming for! 🤔
Great lesson thank u can u tell us or me lol how to stop your trem from diving slightly when I do bend a string or note plz thank you
You need to tighten the springs in the tremolo until the slight detune stops....
i guess we could bend up any note we want but i would guess that some note bent up to certain target notes sound better than others...which notes in the scale do you mostly bend?...thanks for everything Steve!
Depends where in the the scale and what kind of bend. If you're in e minor and you're bending the 2nd note(#f) you could do a half bend to g or a one and half bend to A. Or do whatever you want haha

I would love to sleep on a bed purely made of Steve's voice

I've been playing for years and have a very good vibrato. However, I developed a terrible habit that I can't break. I never learned how to bend up for vibrato. Bend yes, vibrato no. Now I find myself having to cheat, using the whammy to use vibrato some notes. That great rock note we always hear high on the neck, bending a whole step up and then using vibrato?...... Yeah, I bend up a whole step and use my floating tremolo to vibrato up and down from that note. I never developed the coordination to get a good even vibrato up and down going towards the ceiling. End of my confession. I'm such a failure.
It's only been an year, not a decade! Just put in hours under your belt, and learn!
Full bend vibrato is like a bad girlfriend that you want break up with, but you can’t because the secs is too good 😂

Me too
About 30 years and I still can’t bend with vibrato either, I can do them both separately, but putting them together just never works for me
I used to cheat by use my picking hand behind my other hand to make vibrato or by pressing my finger with it.
My problem is that it just doesn't sound sweet. Sounds all out of tune.
Another problem I have is sustaining the note. For instance, on the g string, when I bend up it doesn't last very long no matter how high my action is. It just doesn't sing. It's 100% my technique but I don't know what in doing wrong.
If you guys want I can send you a short clip for evaluation. Let me know.
A compression/sustain pedal can work wonders for sustain. So you can hold notes longer without cranking up the volume. :-)

I can only do down bend vibrato, which obviously makes problems when I’m playing on the B or E
In classical guitar, you can just do vibrato like you would on a violin. Just squiggle your fingers left and right. In fact bending might not actually good for your strings
