Tyler Kasak OW. He lost round 1 to the #26 seed. Then won 7 straight to claim THIRD, beating #1 Ridge Lovett 10-1 on the march back.
I thought the same!
Vito Arujau! Won as a 6th seed. They took points away from him twice and he still won. He beat undefeated Daton Fix.
Agreed, and he also had to mentally overcome 2 consecutive losses to Ryan Cookham.
Vito was legit but he also kinda deserved the points lol he headbutted his face open
Starocci was a 9th seed and went thru murderers row. IMO
No one thought vito, a world champ, was the 6th seed

Whistle to whistle Aaron brooks was the most outstanding wrestler of this tournament. Idk how you debate that. He dominated every opponent. He made 0 mistakes. He was not taken down. He didn't have to upset anyone b/c he is that much better than the field. David Carr was not the outstanding wrestler b/c he wrestled close matches, Sure he may have had some impressive wins for himself over some tough opponents but he did not wrestle a flawless, mistake free, or dominant tournament. He wrestled a good tournament in which He almost lost the final? Isnt it outstanding to completely dismantle everyone and basically cruise? Isnt it outstanding to have margin of victory?
100% agree
I agree with you 100% I don't see an argument for anybody other than Brooks. I didn't think he'd look as good at 197 but he looked better than he ever has.
Whistle to whistle it’s Parker. Bonused EVERYONE
Definitely see a case for Parker. He dominated@@xzjayz7925
@@xzjayz7925 Parker looked great but even he knows his title came from being pushed by Brooks (he credited him during his interview) and the fact that Brooks went to 197. Just don't see how you could give it to someone that Brooks beat previously.
Crookland and storoachee! You’re killing me Chael.
Brooks was OW without question. Keckeisen should be grateful Brooks moved up to 197. Carr stalls too much to be considered outstanding. Brooks is a non-stop attack machine. He manhandled Buchanan and took him to his back and pinned him. Teched Elam in the semis. And he chased Hidlay all around the mat in the final. And by winning the final, Penn State established a new team scoring record to go along with the largest margin of victory record.
Chael giving away free marketing info again, goat
Starocci beat two NCAA champions with one leg!
There's only one NCAA champion with one leg. 😅
Crook-lin and Sta-rochi 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂😂 Yeah, that was hilarious!
Crookland and Star-roachie!!
Lmao Crookland 🤣🤣
Just disappointed he didn't attempt Arujau

Vito for the record
is 24, Daton is 26. Vito wrestled at NCAAs 4x not 5 like a lot of these guys as you are not allowed to being at ivy league school.
2018 - Vito took a grey shirt out of high school just like many guys would take a red shirt
2019- Then he wrestled his freshman year took 4th
2020- Then he took an olympic and good thing because if he didn’t he would have lost a year cause ivy doesn’t give a shit about free covid year . They canceled the tourney this year 2020
2021- Then in 2021 ivy canceled the season. Fortunately the olympics got post poned and he was allowed to take an olympic shirt again or he would have again lost a year.
2022- Then he wrestled his sophomore year taking 3rd
2023 wrestled his junior year winning it and mow
2024 wrestled his senior year and won it
So he actually wrestled only 4 years.. not 7, not 6, not even 5. He took one grey shirt like anyone else would take a red, and then 2020 ncaas canceled tourney and 2021 ivy league canceled cornells season . So after his grey shirt year, Vito wrestled anytime that he could meaning anytime Cornell was At NCAAs, Vito was
Chael please do more college wrestling!
So happy for Caleb Henson, the VT team, and that southern wrestling is starting to come around.
Is he going to Olympic trials?
Agreed, south east especially
Starocci wrestled labriola in the finals last year, mehki was 2 years ago
Carr's good. OW is brooks. Carr barely beat messenbrink. Brooks destroyed everyone he faced.
He is suppose to he is the best wrestler in the world at that weight….per David Taylor
Beating O’Toole and Messenbrink is better than dominating lesser talent. 🤷♂️
@@MrSilus2000no it’s not
@@MrSilus2000I’d agree with this except he had to beat Hidlay! He’s one of the best in the country and probably world at the weight.
As good as his mma vids are, these wrestling vids tend to be some of his best work. This is coming from a complete wrestling outsider. I never skip these.
Watched this entire tournament from start to finish. What a week! Crookham is gonna be a problem. But I’d have to give Starocci OW he got the shit end of the stick and still beat em all, oh by the way he was severely injured 3 weeks before the tournament
I agree! Maybe there needs to be a conversation about more than one outstanding wrestler. Henson was amazingly good too
You're not even saying his name right. It's CROOKHAM
Lmfao I was googling this Crooklyn to see who he was.
I think it's awesome that a few of the MMA stars are still real deep in college wrestling. Would really love chael every day on FRL
You make a good point. Carr and Starocci were both amazing.
I feel bad for Staroachy and Crooklyn as well
I agree, Carr deserved it. He beat Hamiti, O-Toole, then Messenbrink. A case can be made for others (Vito, Keckeisen, Starocci, Brooks). And yes, Starocci's seed was criminal, not so much to him but to Mekhi Lewis. As the #1 seed he got the shaft having to face Starocci in the quarters.
You are not the OW when you are getting hit with stalling. He wouldn’t even have won that match if Mitchell actually realized the score. Storracci or Brooks
Agree about the atrocious seeding @ 165 & 174, though at 133, I'm not quite following your argument about Crookham and Bailey?
I was hoping for another NCAA video from Chael! I was halfway through the first one where he had his Oregon wrestlers at the air bnb with him playing ping pong, and the video stopped as it was taken down!
Uncle Chael watching matches we didn’t know existed with 2 extra weight classes. 😂
It should be Vito or keckeisen, they both dominated their brackets the most
Strength of competition matters more than dominating no?
@@MrSilus2000 didn’t Vito beat a 4x national runner up? That seams like the most strength oh competition to me
Rocco Welsh is from my small hometown congratulations on him making it to the finals not bad for a freshman it was a great finals loved the Mendez vs Bartlett match also. 🤘🏼
Ryan 'Crooklyn?' 😁
Agree to a degree…but crying over seeds after the tournament is over seems useless. All wrestlers should have the same attitude and mindset as Starocci. He didn’t care where they seeded him. If you’re the best, you’ll beat whoever is in front of you. Nobody had a tougher draw than Starocci?
Stark county proud!!
Kasak was my OW
I agree, the bracket was stacked for Fix to
Vito was the best wrestler of the tournament and it just goes to show how good Crookham could be. Vito vs Fix was one of the better folkstyle wrestling matches that Ive ever watched
Thx for this
They messed up on this for sure.
Aaron Brooks and Carter Starocci should've been able to split it because they were on the same team.
Carr hasn't won 4 straight national titles. Carter and Aaron did that. Other thing is, Mesenbrink will have some things to work on and improve on this offseason to come back stronger next season. If he adds some to his offensive bag, like some underhooks and double underhooks and ankle picks, and he works on getting out from the bottom position and doesn't let someone like Carr or O'Toole ride him out for over 2 minutes. Usually it's Penn State wrestlers I'm accustomed to seeing rip through guys and keep them down for 2+ minutes in riding time. I wanted Mesenbrink to win, but I'm not mad he did because this just will mean he has some things to work on, namely learning how to get out faster and better from bottom against tough riders like Carr.
Carr vs Starocci would be a hell of a matchup to see though.
Points your arguing are for the Hodge. Not OW. You’re proving Chael’s point.
It’s for the tournament not the previous years
100% agree should of split between starocci and and brook. Chael no one thought mehki had a chance of winning
Aaron Brooks should have won OW, 4x time National champ in 2 different weight classes he looked absolutely dominant in the finals.
I would agree with that on Carr as most outstanding wrestler. Brooks was the most dominant wrestler of the tournament. He mauled everyone pretty much all season. However, beating two NCAA champions and clawing his way to the championship was a harder path for Carr. Brooks toughest match was a former runner up in Hidlay and he made him look like a JV wrestler. Brooks was impressively dominant, but dominant in his path to victory is not the same thing as most outstanding. Give him the Hodge trophy as most dominant wrestler of the entire season, but Carr inspired us with his performance in that tournament in a way that was truly outstanding with his harder path to the championship.
Aaron Brooks or Carter Starocci
We didn’t know Starocci was #1 because nobody knew how solid he knee was.
9 was too low, but no way he should have been a 1.
Had to be impressed with crookham as well I still haven't seen him vs Bailey either match and that's the big one I wanted to see
Brooks was and is the clear OW of the NCAA's. Nobody was as flat out as dominate as he was, and is.
Great vide. ❤
I 100% agree!
If we’re putting 3rd place wrestlers up for Outstanding Wrestler(sorry, but it’s Brooks), then that distinction easily goes to Kasak! The kid reeled off 7 straight, most with bonus points, including beating both the #1 and #3 seeds!
Arujau outstanding wrestler, Parker K hodge trophy.
Wrestler of the tournament does not factor their entire career. It literally is OF THE TOURNAMENT.
The Hodge? Well, that’s a different discussion as we learned with Yianni last year.
Uncle Chael! Looking sharp.
Chael is undefeated, Crooklin and Starochee, and with conviction. He is the best.
Don’t complicate the issue as the OW of the tournament goes to the most dominant wrestler in the tournament which would be Brooks, end of story.
Beating Otoole and Messenbrink > being dominant over lesser talent
@@MrSilus2000messenbrink is a redshirt freshman who’s o my had one season and Carr has already beaten o toole 3 times, Carr wrestled close matches with both, he didn’t dominate
Crookham wrestled timid. The ref and Vito has to tell him to put his damn foot in the circle in back to back matches. He is a stall master
i like the wrestling talk
They kept giving stalling points to Mesinbrink even though David Carr was more active shot more and got two takedowns and rode Mesinbrink for almost 2 minutes. Luckily Mesinbrink forgot about the riding time point in the last 30 seconds helping Carr win.
I still remember when Hayden hidley had that takedown against nolf.
Crookland? Who’s Crookland? Ryan Crookham is the name of the wrestler you were talking about.
David car winning OW makes sense. He beat 2 time NCCA champ Keegan Otoole and then beat one of if not the best freshman in one of the hardest weight classes up top in the country. Brooks Starrocci beat people they have been beating all year. They get the hodge trophy contention reward. Vito was definitely in there too but I think cars tournament was better opponents wise.
I vote Brooks or Starocci.
Hodge to who though?
I’d give it to Keckeisen, but that’s just me.
@@Dr_C_Smithdumb af
Brooks
It’s Crookham, not Crookland
Carr got lucky that The missile couldn’t do math.
That will haunt MM forever, simple math probably the only thing that will keep him from being a 4 timer.
@@youtubesucks7384He got beat straight up
MM didn’t record a TD vs Carr
actually he did in the third.... but of Course Carr was called for stalling 3 seconds after getting an escape and while scoring a takedown...

Chaelllll
Starocci was nasty wrestling a shut out. Very impressive and deserved honors for it.
Yes…CARR!! If O”Toole or Mesenbrink would have won, y’all would be saying the should be OW! Haters!!🤬😂 I don’t wanna hear about the stalling fools that’s part of Wrestling, if they didn’t want him to stall then they should’ve scored the first points, he scored the points so therefore he’s allowed to protect them. You may not like it but it’s part of Wrestling he got hit for stalling, and probably one times too many. By the way..Carr took more and obviously better shots. Part of wrestling is defending shots!!
Uncle Chael is the best!
Amen brotha Sonnen
I disagree. If you beat a guy twice during the year the 3rd time should be a charm. No excuses. Crookham deserved to lose. Congrats to Cael Sanderson/Penn St. for a dominating team performance. Aaron Brooks was the most dominating wrestler at the tournament. Aaron Brooks is the Outstanding Wrestler. No doubt about it.
Jimmy johnny was a NCAA champion as well
Ramos and Noto was a quarterfinal between two guys who had been previously ranked number one at some point in the season and returning All Americans.. Baily is great but a true frosh. On the day the bracket released that was certainly one of the tougher quarterfinals, and a much tougher one than Crookham v Baily. Are we also forgetting that Starrocci v Lewis was also a quarterfinal match? I do feel at a tournament like this they should name a backside outstanding wrestler as well. Would have been Kasak this year for sure, but a case could be made for Bailey or Noto.
I don't follow this stuff, but thanks for sharing and speaking up. Respect.
They didn’t want to give another award to Penn State.
Chael reporting on wrestling every once in a while because he can’t let boredom get close
I was looking for Oregan
Carter starrocci was the 9th seed and beat 2 national champions to get there.
Aaron brooks without question. Prove me wrong
I'm a MIZZOU fan and when O'Toole and Carr face off, just flip a coin.
Ryan Crookham (not Crooklin). Vito lost to him twice in the regular season but made adjustments and crushed him in the NCAAs. Vito was definitely the superior wrestler by far in this tournament.
David Carr a favorite of the tournament and good friend to Aaron Brooks had an outstanding toournament. The simple fact that they're both good friends makes it even that much more special for the both of them. However, if you looked at it David did beat a #1, #2, and a 5 seed to capture the title. However, Vito alsocould have easily been the outstanding outstanding wrestler also being a 2 time National Champion and beating the #1, #2, and #3 seed. I preferred actually Carter Starrocci to win because he came back as a number 9 seed and beat a#8, #1, #4, and #6 seed. But the number one seed and definitely the most outstanding wrestler because he accumulated several pins and several tech falls and had a very solid win in the finals. I definitely agree with Chael on most occasions but not this one because these statistics say it all and the dominance of Aaron Brooks says it all.
Aaron Brooks dominated, if He didn’t beat Keckeisen I would say he would win but Aaron Brooks is better than him we know that
Who's this Crooklin character?
1:46 there's actually 10 weight classes 🙄
Just hit me. Replace Daniel Cromier for Chael covering the NCAA going forward
Chael Vito had a #6 ranking... what do you want him to do about that😂
Outstanding MMA God = Chael P Sonnen
I don't follow college wrestling that much but Carr and Vito names kept popping up.
Frost had a 2-1 match with a kid that was 26 and a world medalist I don’t think he had the toughest draw
Jesse Mendez should have gotten outstanding wrestler just because of that spadle.
Chael mispronouncing the names over and over is hilarious! Love ya Chael
Henson was awesome, too.... I'd say there's an argument for henson to be the outstanding wrestler.
Figueroa was the 8th seed. He took out #1 in the quarters.
Levi Haines is my vote.
Remove the computer stuff and have something like the NFL draft where all the coaches argue for their wrestler and debate.
Carr's a absolute beast
FORRREVVVVERRRRR - Squince
Crookham crookham
I think they did that to make ncaa’s more exciting than to see the same people on the finals stage again .
The real story here isn't who OW is... it really is how bad the seeding was. I know there is an argument that says champions wrestle through regardless of seeding, however, great points are made during this video. Returning NCAA champs should be the primary criteria in seeding for this tourney IMHO.. then head to head, etc. I always viewed OW as dominate wrestler... not difficult path to victory. Aaron Brooks may had been pre-ordained by the NCAA, but he dominates his weight class. OW is well deserved.
Dominating over a weak field vs winning in the most competitive classes?
Great points chael. There were 4 guys who could have got ow. Carr was one of them. I thought it was brooks. But Carr has the name and the arch nemesis n O'Toole. Sucks
seeds were ridiculous but Vito toyed with Ryan. Fix is a joke. Does absolutely nothing ever. Stall machine
Brooks dominated, Starocci won with one leg, Kasak won 7 straight on the backside to finish 3rd. Carr stalled his way to a win in the finals and his opponent thought the score was tied and played it cautious for the last 20 seconds. I fully understand my bias…
How was that stalling ? Carr pushed until near the end
Wrong! He was out of gas at the end and Messenbrink would have likely scored a takedown to win had he realized the score with the riding time point included.
Ncaa seedings are always brain dead. Starocci at the 9 is the most insane thing I’ve ever seen. Not to mention Vito at 6 Crookham at 2 (after Daton ducked the Lehigh dual) They have notoriously bad seeding from some inexplicable criteria.
The OW clearly was AB….He was the most dominant all year, AND after his Finals match he had 96 takedowns on the year, and gave up zero.
This isn’t close.
Crook ham….ham….ham
In regard to PSU, in the last 10 years, not including Covid, Penn State has had 42 finalists and won 30 of those matches. So in 10 years PSU has had 42% of the NCAA Finalists.
Parker Keickeisen bonus pointed everybody I think he earned OW
Only because Aaron brooks moved up
@@Basichomelifegoes to show how much talent is at these weight classes without brooks there
Aaron Brooks all day. He got the main event spot and actually performed. Carr stalled too much for me.
