I'm white, but I still support the renaming of South Africa to "Azania." The "rainbow nation" should have a unique name not tied to colonialism. In the past, the Dutch and British just saw it as the southern tip of Africa, hence its name. "South Alkebulan" wouldn't be much better. Imagine if France was just called "West Europe." Silly, right?

Tunisia used to be Ifrīqiyyah. That is the true origin of the word Africa. Alkebulan was used in Morocco. So you've only traded the name of one area, for the name of another area. None of these words ever meant to include the entire continent. Because the people of the continent are so diverse, they never needed, or wanted a name that would group them all together. On the continent there are hundreds of different cultures, and each has their own way of naming where they live. Sure the colonizers chose to name an entire continent and its people after a very small part of it. And that is exactly what Alkebulan. There could never be one name that represents everyone, from the KhoeKhoe in the south to the Moors in the north. You can not force all of us together in to one culture, because we are not all the same.

(as they say) ... hence the sphinx perhaps even being from the begining period and rediscovered later as per the tale by the ancient egyptians who said they "Found it" later it was recarved and became iconic . Africa is an amalgamation of the words Afar and ricca. Afar is the name of the Afar people who live in north East Africa which was then part and parcel of ancient Egypt. When talking about ancient Egypt the first thing you have to do is to remove the current frontiers separating the North East African states. This is because the current frontiers are an invention of the 1884 Berlin Colonial conference. The moment you remove the current frontiers ancient Egypt becomes North East Africa sub-Saharan Afica. Afar folklore says that they lived in Egypt during the times of the pharaohs. Ricca is Italian for rich and the word Africa means the rich land of the Afar was first coined by the Romans. Other similarly amalgamated names include America named after the Italian explorer Amerigo and ricca, Puerto Ricco, Costa Rica etc.

@@alem9044 It was in the ancient past. Don't make the common mistake of using the modern frontiers of Egypt defined in 1884 to define the ancient Egyptian borders. The first thing when you are talking about ancient Egypt is that you have got to remove the current frontiers that separate the modern north east African states. Why you may ask? Because the modern-day frontiers separating today's north east African states are artificial creations of the 1884 Berlin colonial conference. This means that ancient Egypt of old extended from the northern shores of Egypt to the Sudan, to Ethiopia, Eritrea and Puntland in East Africa. The obelix, which is a distinctive feature of the ancient Nilo Sudanic-Egyptian civilization, is found in present day Egypt, the Sudan and Ethiopia proof that these areas were once interconnected in ONE civilization and not separate. In essence, ancient Egypt extended into "sub-Saharan" Africa. Below is how ancient Egyptians looked like. A bit of music:
      czcams.com/video/oURLKZjDnVg/video.html
      czcams.com/video/nq1jGHk1YcM/video.html

      czcams.com/video/0rEzlqhBuj0/video.html
      czcams.com/video/Z6mcJnk0n4I/video.html
And as you enjoy the music, have a close look at those hair locks worn by the women and tell me where have you seen them before. Also have a close look at the loincloth worn by the man with the mic and tell me where you have seen such loin cloth. And in the last video notice the woman wearing the "qamar boba" moon crescent earring. This earring is extensively depicted in Nilo Sudanic-Egyptian murals and artwork. The ancient Egyptians were black people and the Romans named Africa after the Afar people in the ancient past.

@@Bantuarise Asante sana kwa ufahamu yako (many thanks for your insights), Can you do a show strictly on the appropriateness of Bantu as a word to describe Black people from a Pan-African perspective regardless of ethnic group and geography? For some reason, some Africans believe that Wilhelm Bleek, German linguist, made up the term Bantu, when all he did was to point out that most of the Continent's languages used a variant of the word 'BANTU' to convey the notion of 'people/humans'. By the way, the word Bantu is discussed in my new book (2023)
Scattered Assets (inclusive of the prelude Elephants in a Bamboo Cage) and a co-authored one UWENZI: The Pan-African Factor, A 21st Century View (2016).

Goddess Ifri, Ifru, is a Berber goddess of fortune, war, protection, and fertility from the Awriga tribe in modern day Tunisia.[
This deity was adopted as . Ifriquia aka"Africa" by the Romans. Ifri was an influential goddess in North Africa; Pliny the Elder stated that the people of Africa did not start anything without first invocating Ifri. The word IFri is still used by all berbers today to mean "Cave"" as that is where their ancestors used to go to worship Ifri. So the name Afrika derives from the north african Berbers.

I fully support this as the Bible talks about the land of Ophir. The Berbers is also believed to be connected to Atlantis, and believed to be remnants of a very ancient people. The Ophir, Iphir, Aphir, Aphirique and eventually Africa makes total sense and is in line with how the Alphabet changed and languages also caught on.
