    How do you rotate the engine by hand? can you give me a step by step procedure like for example do I need to put the car neutral and take the serpentine belt off? I need to make sure that the cam is down that actuates the high pressure pump and I'm not sure how to rotate the engine by hand to push it all the way down. Thanks in advance for your help.

    • @chriskolar
      @chriskolar  Před 4 lety +2

      Ok, key off or battery disconnected.
      Put transmission in park. Manual transmission in neutral.
      Put a socket on the bolt on the crank shaft. Using a breaker bar or ratcheting wrench connected to that.
      Then when you turn the engine clockwise put your finger in the hole where the high pressure fuel pump was installed. The follower cup that is in the hole that the fuel pump mounts in will move with the rising and falling of the lobe. You can feel that with your finger. You want the follower cup to be at the bottom most position. You can turn the crankshaft back a bit and forth and feel the rise after it gets bottomed out. You want that. You want the follower cup to be all the way down. You can take the oring off the old pump and verify that it is in the correct position. Or you can use a measurement tool to register the position of the follower cup relative to the face of the mounting flange. Compart that measurement on the pump to verify.
      I hope this helps you. Please let me know.

    • @chriskolar

      There was codes for low fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I took it to the dealer for a diagnosis. They said the high pressure pump had failed. I also had to replace the pump in the tank. After doing the high pressure pump there was still a code for the low pressure pump. I took it to the dealer because I did not have a high pressure diagnostic tool like the dealer had. In retrospect I think they did not test everything out as they should.
      I would replace the pump in the tank first. If that pressure is low the high pressure will be low. The obd2 data provided the high pressure at the fuel rail. It has to average above 508 psi. I think that is the number. I'll check later. I also made a video on replacing the pump in the tank.

I checked fuel pressure which is at 60psi. and im getting at least 4 different misfire codes also a low pressure code for the injector rail along with a hole bunch of other codes. i am thinking its an open injector or the high pressure pump. am i going the right route? was wondering if you could give me some advice?

    • @chriskolar
      @chriskolar  Před 3 lety

      You will get misfire codes from a malfunctioning high pressure pump. The high pressure can be read with a scan tool. If that is the case the oil (oil filter too) and spark plugs will need to be changed too because they are contaminated with fuel. So far you are on the right track. Let me know how things go so others can follow along. Thanks

And i have the same issue i seen on the other video not that heavy white smoke but still some coming out low power indicator on the instrument panel. @@ahiranquijas9720 The injectors on this vehicle are very high pressure design. You will not be able to clean them without a special machine. If the high pressure pump is defective and the pressure is wrong or low the injector spray pattern will not atomize properly leaving droplets of fuel in the combustion chamber. The route that is the least cost is to replace the high pressure pump. To confirm the quality of the fuel system you should remove the fuel filter and drain it into a glass to see how bad the fuel quality is. If it has water and dirt in there then there may be a contamination problem that a new pump will not solve. Diagnose the problem all the way before putting parts.

    What tools did you use to get the high pressure fuel pump line bolts off?

    • @chriskolar
      @chriskolar  Před 3 lety +2

      I used crows foot tool. It is very difficult to torque it properly that way too. I used the turn the nut 1/4 past the point of contact principal. This work on most hydraulic fittings. In this case, do it at your own risk. Tightening high-pressure fittings is a tricky deal and can get messed up if done wrong. Too lose it leaks. Too tight the threads strip, the line gets crushed, flare gets damaged and leaks. So you have been warned.

      Does your scanner show rail pressure? This model has gdi injection. You should have 55 to 60 from the low pressure pump. Pressure is regulated by the fuel pump module via a duty cycle. The high-pressure pump will feed the injectors about 500 psi at idle and vary that on according to demand upwards to 1800 range.

    Hi Chris, how are you?
    I'm coming to you because I'm desperate. My 2011 V6 camaro just like the one in your video has had fuel pressure issues since January.
    It has misfires, "reduced engine power" throws white smoke into the exhaust.
    The high pressure pump was changed (the high pressure pipes were not changed) but the problem remains the same.
    The spark plugs were checked, once in February and they had oil, the gaskets of the rocker cover were changed and new spark plugs, then last week we checked the spark plugs again and they were with some oil back and the spark plugs in black, they were cleaned but still with many misfires.
    In my channel I uploaded several videos about my car, in the last video you can see the values in real time. I would appreciate any help or advice, thank you very much for your time

    • @chriskolar
      @chriskolar  Před 4 lety

      Yea I checked your video, frp is too low. If you changed the high pressure fuel pump already then the one in the tank is prolly bad. There is a test port for the low pressure pump on the back of the engine. It needs to be around 60 psi. I made a video on the in tank fuel pump replace.

    • @chriskolar

    • @chriskolar
      @chriskolar  Před 4 lety

      @@diegospidy5978 there should be a standard port for testing fuel pressure on the low side from tank. The oil gets too much fuel in it, the pressure is low and when the injector flows it is not atomized properly, this allows raw fuel to enter the cylinder, that washes the oil off the cylinder walls and some gets pushed up past the spark plug threads. This also causes higher temperatures in the catalytic converters.
