Thank you for properly mechanicly stabilizing with geotextiles and adding proper drainage. It drives me mad when people do this wrong because the walls hardly last a year or two before collapse.
This is why I decided not to do our retaining wall myself, I knew I wouldn’t do it right. It sits unfinished though because we couldn’t afford to hire anyone and that is extremely frustrating.
i am wondering about stabilizing bars. I have seen this done with a bar that's like a hook that goes into the block then has arms that radiate from a central stem to hold on to the ground . not sure if this is only done with taller walls.
@@jussayinmipeece1069 Those are usually only used on really tall MSE walls, like the ones you see holding back hills near highways. They either use solid rods or drive achors deep into the soil and tension with cable. On smaller walls you can just stick with a simple geotextile. Anything is better than nothing though!

I was going to do it myself but couldn’t get rid of the rest of the RxR ties from the previous wall, the years waiting have made me realize I am not the one who should be setting that thing up either. Physically I couldn’t do it, let alone my knowledge is not there to do it properly, yes I could research but I also would rather not hurt myself, which I would end up doing. We have the bricks for the wall (hauling those alone made me realize I can’t do it), but never had the money to hire anyone. I would really like to finally get that started next year though, that area is finally shaping up to be the veggie garden but not having that wall done is ruining it.

Where I live if you don't use dead men to hold back wall it will shift over time and lean out. Ground is always in a constant vibration. Farmers can tell you that. It's why they are always removing large stones and boulders out of fields.

The footer needs to be wider, and the wall built on the inside edge, noto the middle. A deadman near each end would be great. (That's a cubic yard of concrete 10' inside the yard, tied into the wall on the inside edge, to keep the wall from tilting outward.)
In stable ground, this method is perfectly fine, without even reading I bet people are saying it’s gonna fall over, needs concrete, etc. but again stable ground, 3/4” aggregate “grout” and backfill with geo net….not going anywhere. Now have a flood plain, earthquake or massively expansive soil well then this won’t work too well.
Y don't u used a real compactor the one u used sucks get u a jumping jack I know no one likes them cause they weight a ton but it's bette it compacts 100 times better then that tamper u mind as well do it with a hand taper
Doesn't need anything done to foundation, the geo grid locks everything in place during backfilling. It's been done that way for a long time and no walls have come down yet.
I have a question? I may learn something. Isn’t the point of a drain to carry the water away from the wall? I personally would have ran my drain on dirt grade wrapped in geo and ran under my footer. I feel keeping it 8 inches high and dumping it on the other side of the wall doesn’t do anything. Do you just know enough to put a drain in but not thinking about it or am I missing something here? If I’m wrong educate me please.
You tried so hard to get it done right but took so many shortcuts. Why is there geogrid sticking thru the wall. Why did you use pavers as the base in some areas. So many things that could have been done better. Also, you should have tried to install a deadman or two on that bend!

Anything retaining more than 4 ft. needs tiebacks or "deadman".

Formwork elements are usually reinforced and concreted.
Geogrid tie backs and proper drainage behind the wall. It will last a long time. I see a lot of failures in city made structures.

Ending the textiles behind the wall seems problematic in places with actual rain (like Florida---3.2 inches in 20 mins).
